I feel like if I were a parent and this happened to my kid I wouldn't make them go back to the same place where they experienced their trauma. Return to school, yes...but not the campus where it happened. This could be part of why Laura had a more difficult time healing from it than she should have. Being trapped in the same school for another 3 years must have been hell.

Two years ago, Sarah Bush talked at my first Girls camp about being a Columbine surviver. It was so heartbreaking and made me realize how horrible this world is.

I don’t ever leave comments on videos, but for this one I feel I have to. I clicked on this video, after watching a few other short videos about the Columbine shooting, with the intent to just watch a few minutes and go to the next since it’s 30 mins long; however, once I started watching, I had absolutely NO desire to move away from it. You two girls are so absolutely beautiful and amazing, for your courage, strength, for your loving hearts. Im 34 years old and have never had to go through anything even remotely close to the horrific tragedy that you two, along with so many others from your school & community, had to face & overcome, but listening to the both of you speak, I felt some of what you experienced just by your words and voices. Bless you two for being so brave as to relieve those moments in order to speak to others so as to help them get through similar situations. I can only imagine how difficult it must be for you each time you do, yet you continue to do it. That in itself takes such courage, compassion, love, and selflessness. I know that if you two beautiful ladies moved me the way you did, someone who has not been put through an experience of anything like yours & dealt with the magnitude of sorrow, pain, fear, etc that you have; then the times that you have spoken & will speak in the future to others who HAVE been through similar situations..man, you guys have helped, are helping, & will help so many people this way- of that I have absolutely no doubts or questions!!! Thank you so much for being brave, for having such compassion for others, for your kind souls (I mean, they shine so brightly that just listening to you speak shows through to see what great people you are). Y’all are an inspiration. I’m so sorry for everything you were put through, but as you said- you made something great come of it by being so open and helping others. I wish I could know you guy in person bc I just know to have people like you in someone’s life is a true blessing!!

I live a mile from the school now. It’s an odd feeling knowing if I’d been here 20 years ago I’d have heard all of this happening

Two defining moments in my life: columbine and 9/11. Columbine seemed to be the genesis of mass shootings and 9/11 the catalyst for the worldwide terror that has plagued planet earth for the last 18 + - years

I was 11 years old when this happened. Our elementary school which is not even in Colorado talked about it for weeks . I'm glad you guys are ok that's some gnarley shit .

Thank you so much for sharing your story. For some reason, the tragedy at Uvalde has affected me more than other tragedies we hear on the news. I needed to listen to your words, and I know it is not a coincidence I came across your video without searching for it. I am currently a junior at BYU-Idaho, my major is Family and Marriage Studies, and I plan to obtain a master's in counseling. I wish you the best and thank you again for your testimony.

Oh you can see the pain in their eyes still. It still hurts, it’s still scary. It still haunts them. So sad. I hope all Columbine students can keep going and keep finding peace. So sad... I feel deeply for them. Not sure if mom made a good choice making her go back. Sounds like that was horrible.

Its so creepy I just had a terrible and very vivid nightmare last night about a school shooting and now this pops up in my feed...

It’s so painful just hearing what you went through, I can’t imagine what it is like to have actually gone through it. You two are so strong, and brave and resilient.

This whole thing was tragic, I dident even know these kids but I visited their graves anyway, the one that drew me close was Rachel joy Scott. Now she has a movie and a challenge set at all schools. Very amazing how everyone came together to pay respects. Please heavenly Father watch over our children in all schools around the world and give peace and grace to those who need! Amen

Columbine forever sits with me....Same for Sandy Hook....I have to find ways of getting through both anniversaries.....This is the time to really be there for each other more now then ever

PTSD is such a long-term disorder to endure for individuals that have experienced such a surreal, traumatic, situation, it's a relatively new diagnosable condition.... we've learned so much about how to treat/deal with it nowadays..... it's never going to be easy but I'm so thankful that it's better understood now, and help is available for it....can you imagine what the survivors of the Titanic had to deal with, no one even knowing what it was back then, or very few, it affects everyone so differently, and they had no "name" to put on the feelings they were having.. survivors guilt, I'm sure, was a mind, gut wrenching emotion to feel on a day to day basis for those survivors to deal with, basically on their own....I applaud these two women, they carry themselves quite well when discussing their individual experiences that fateful day, they're very articulate in expressing where their minds were during, and after the experience...I hope they get better and better each day, along with the others also, who lived through the experience that will always be known as "Columbine".....may a higher power guide and comfort you all...all your days ahead

I remember this day like it was last week. I sat in my recliner pregnant with my son, wondering what I was bringing him into. I'm not sure what kind of parents would make their children go back to a school that such trauma happened at but I am very proud of these two women.

This tragedy was made so much worse by the inept response RIP Dave Sanders.

I was 14 at the time. I remember seeing on the news and feeling physically sick.

You gals are beautiful. Thank you for this. Recently while on vacation I was compelled to drive through Parkland in South Florida to get a better sense of what happened because whenever I hear of these atrocities they seem all too surreal as they are widely publicized through the media. As I approached the school I felt a sinking feeling of despair wondering how something like the shootings could have happened in such a beautiful Florida town and wondered how young people that are still enrolled there get up in the morning knowing that they are returning to the very place where they lost friends, classmates, neighbors and others to something so horrific. When I was in high school in the 1980's there was a lot of loss and tragedy of classmates loosing their lives to stupid senseless things like suicide and drinking and driving that made my high school years very depressing. Hearing you share your stories of strength and hope really touched me and helped me. Thank you.🙌💖👍

The fact that she was ready to go to chatfield high (which is Columbine’s rival) really shows how much she didn’t want to return there. Honestly I’d understand kids changing schools after, being in that school could be very traumatising..

Thank God these two women have each other. No one wants to be a member of this club. One year ago yesterday Parkland, FL school was similarly hit. I wish that mental health was funded more than weaponry in this country.

I don’t think any of the survivors will ever be truly ok. What a tragedy and it breaks my heart what all these poor kids went through, especially their parents wondering if they’ll ever see their children again. Coward sob’s!!! May they rot in hell for eternity

They both grew up to be VERY Beautiful young women!

When I was in the shooting that happened at the school I went to we also had a very busy intersection right outside it.. in the chaos and panic a group of my friends and I laid out in a ditch by the school and after a few minutes we were convinced that the shooter was going to follow us out the back doors because the person he was going after came out badly injured asking us for help.. we didn’t know what to do but we called 911 and paramedics came to take care of her but we ended up running across the busy road into an apartment complex to get away because we didn’t know if the shooter was following us still and everyone else was heading that direction. The people driving on that road had about the same reaction to us running haphazardly through the road… they honked and were angry at us until they saw the chaos.

These beautiful girls are using their traumatic experience and turning it into a giving and helping hand to ones who need healing strength within.

My daughter is a freshman at East Aurora High School in Aurora Illinois and someone wrote a threat in the boy's bathroom which said that the shooting will b worse than Columbine😢on May 10th. So only half of the students attended school on that day and there were a lot of police officers walking around in and outside of the school. They're going to b on high alert until the end of the school year hoping nothing happens🙏🏼

I was in 8th grade when this happened. I remember watching the news in class, just crying. I wanted to just hug everyone.

i was a freshman when Columbine occurred. in the aftermath we had officers stationed in the school. we had bomb threat drills. I remember all the news coverage of April 20, 1999. It was scary realizing that I was the same age as some of the students

Faith over fear. The battle of the mind over fear must be overcome with faith.

Very difficult circumstances for so many psychologically as well as physically. The police/SWAT whatever failed miserably on that day. Their insistence, for lack of a better term, on perfect circumstances IAW their written tactical procedures of SOP is a horrible excuse for lack of effort. Having a person (teacher Patti Nielsen) inside the school on a 911 call already risking her life as it all transpired feeding critical information and the police with their terrible excuses for lack of effort. They knew right away it was students. They knew exactly where they were. They stood outside and did nothing. No one wants to die but courage is absolutely necessary in these situations. There is no sure 100% thing. Standing around outside doing nothing shows lack of courage and also costs lives. About the best thing I can say for the police is they played it safe. Hooray for them! It is the single factor that cost lives under those circumstances. Being a police officer or even a soldier is not for everyone. Courage makes a lot of difference. Yes, I was a soldier for over 20 years.

I was 17 when columbine high school shooting happened. I have lots of family all over Colorado and high school age at that time. A cousin of mine went to college with one of the students he always smoked the same brand of cigarettes that he did in high school.

I wasn’t even there but watching it unfold on tv, I have been afraid of guns ever since & vowed to never shoot one again, even tho I had hunted with my Dad when I was younger, after that, I just couldn’t do it anymore & had an experience while hunting without a gun, after that, hearing those shots took me right back to that & my Dad saying I looked white as a ghost coming out of the timber after that. I don’t ever want to be around guns again. I’m not even sure why it affected me so much, maybe because it was so tragic, first school shooting, & cousins living close to Denver too, not sure but it affected me states away living in Iowa.

Just imagine being there for hours not knowing

I was out of HS few years (different state) but had the same kind of trench-coat the shooters had. Once i found out their group name, i threw it away out of respect for the victims and their families.

Are these girls LDS? Just curious... (edit-- then I watched all of this and found out that they were, we definitely have our own language and terminology). I wasn't in a school shooting, but UCC was in my hometown and had a brother, many friends were attending that college when it happened and it tore me up... I couldn't imagine the horror of being a student and having your security blanket, your sense of safety ripped out from under you. I really appreciated everything these girls have said... It IS okay to have emotions, to have anger, sadness and JOY... Love you gals!!

My middle school just this year had a threat written on our bathroom wall. I’m not surprised there were high schools too. She thought it was funny. Anchorage ak is a mess

I forgot this happened on 4/20, that cant be a coincidence, they had to have chose that date for some reason.

Laura Hall & Sarah Bush are survivors of April 20th Columbine Massacure and they managed to heal through that ordeal and The police could have saved more kids and those kids saved themselves. Its one day at a time. The Library got the worst of it and 12 Students died and one teacher. Dave Saunders was a hero and he saved alot of people. Eric Harris & Dylan Klebold were the two shooters that terrorized Columbine and they killed themselves in the Library. That school was never the same again and Columbine High School was the school everyone talked about. If I heard loud booming sounds in my school I would ran out of there. The survivors were never the same when that happened in Columbine and the only reason why everyone was talking about Columbine was b/c there was 2 shooters not one. Then years later Columbine High School received another threat and then a bomb threat. These ladies managed to deal with alot and they survived. Now these people are all grown up and they have kids of their own. They still bring their kids to school even though school shootings are going on and some of them are even teachers at Columbine. The colors of Columbine are White & Blue.

The sickest part is the killers wanted everyone to still be talking about their killing spree 20+ years down the line. They wanted people to copycat them so, in this really sick way folks honor them by memorializing the horrors they caused. I remember when this first happened, we were concerned with the amount of coverage and footage that was available on the event. Everyone said it would help us identify the behaviors so we can avoid this type of thing in the future. Well, all of that footage turned into just what we thought it would...fuel for copycats.

I think what happen that day was the first mass school shooting. Today we see school shooting like it is a normal thing . Sad but true.

I remember Columbine April 20th 1999 and where I was and it was unreal and 9/11 . Columbine was tip of the ice berg and then 9/11 blew everything to hell in September 11 2001 and the world hasn't been the same since and everything went to shit everything. I was called names like a terrorist and a bitch and it was bad. I was afraid for my life. I still am.

The police could have saved those kids earlier instead they waited for 4 hours and did nothing! WOW! Those kids saved themselves and it was scary during that time on April 20th 1999 and it was big news when Columbine High School was shot up by two teens and it wasn't just one it was 2 shooters and everything all went down in the library and I remember hearing the story of Rachel Joy Scott and Isiah Sholes and how he wanted his mom. 12 Students and one teacher died thank god the bombs didn't go off there would have been more deaths. These ladies managed to go through alot. God be with them.

When US Americans agree to possess weapons and not to alter their gun laws , their mentality and their attitude the violence will not decrease. I am so glad that the most countries in Europe especially Germany have very strict gun laws, I am so glad that Germany is one of the countries with high standards of inner security because the German government takes good care of its citizens. Germany has a very low crime rate and a low rate of incarcerations, death penalty was abolished after WW II and later in whole Europe (with the exception of Russia). I don't feel pity with the US because the Americans create their own reality. Greetings from Europe, Germany!!!

I feel bad for you girls, why did they prop the library door open? They could have snuck them out that way. Rather then just sit out there and listen to what's going on. They waited around, why for? I think I even read an article that said one of the shooters was cornered behind a shed, why didn't the guard stay with him and take him to psych or jail;? Maybe I read it wrong but I was also 14 when I heard about this, but I was in texas at the time. Ironically I was also at lunch hour.

PS: In the history of the Federal Republic of Germany only 3 amok runs on schools did happen: one in the 1960s in an elementary school, One in Leipzig and one in Winnenden. America gave a bad example to the world!
