been listening laura since 'new romantic' era, amazing to hear her evolution as an artist, i just hope she keeps bringing this quality melancholy to our hearts... and thank you, kexp, for all this fan-fucking-tastic performances from the best musicians.
Yeah Iv been listening to her since a friend of mine from Minnesota introduced her music to me when new romantic came out who, along with Joni Mitchel, has been like my patent saint of music.
Is it strange how I find her dislike, or at least awkward feeling, to being questioned actually makes her more appealing? Its almost as if a character, who's playing a role in a film or theatre production, gets stopped when they're acting and is asked 'ok so what is that you're about'? Or maybe most interviews just de-characterise in general I dunno??
Hey dude!, I'm from Venezuela and this is the type of music that makes me feel precisely less lonely and sad, I think that's why it's important!. Don't surrender to that kind of thoughts, art exists to connect and cherish no matter where in this planet you were born, certainly there are others like you, maybe even near you!.
@@miguelangelsanchezrojas5972third world and first world are denominations we use to refer about the quality of economic and life. So someone who lives in a country classified as third world means that the country isn't the best to live in terms of economic e life qualities. The first world is better, for example: USA, united kingdom, and some few others.
Sally Bowles she was 16 when she wrote 'alas I cannot swim' got ID'd at her own gig and ended up playing outside for free 😯 you are right, cool as fuck right from the start!
After years of being a fan of Ms. Marling my wife and I finally had tickets to see her in early 2020. Then coivd hit and everything was cancelled. Still waiting on her to come back the US.
Yes I believe they are, sisters at least. One of them has her own band who supported Laura at the Roundhouse last year, they were great. Saint Clair is the band.
Laura is one of my favourite singer/songwriters and and I am proud that she is British. She deserves much greater recognition but I worry that if she gets it I won't be able to afford to attend a show. Still at least I can watch her You Tube videos.
anyone who lives and breathes english (i.e. natives i suppose?) can explain me what the hell does 'to chase down a wild fire' mean? i can't quite decode it for the life of me. i mean i get it, but i wonder if it's a settled expression?
It's not a common idiom in American English. Judging from the way it is in the song, The Singer character is using a metaphor comparing her or himself to a wild fire--i.e. uncontrolled, passionate, all-consuming, and liable to burn you up and out and leave you completely decimated. So the pursuing "she" is then cast as of only being after her for the thrills and highs without understanding the other, dark side of the coin. This is such a beautiful song.
tyvm for replying jessica. much appreciated :-) it is a very beautiful song, indeed. well i was thinking along other lines, although i think you made total sense in your explanation. my interpretation was that since wildfires are a spontaneous/unpredictable phenomenon of nature, it is not only very difficult but also futile to try and hunt them down (in order to extinguish them?), not to mention that it is dangerous to come near them if you find one, cuz you will like be overpowered by the flames or something. in that sense, the person to whom the protagonist is speaking in the first verse would be foolishly trying to prove a point about the protagonist (trying to make a cold liar out of them). i also ponder about the fact that wildfires are an organic phenomenon in nature, having existed way long before human civilisation, and for most ecosystem being and integral part of its evolutionary course. i wonder if that is woven into the conception of the lyrics. :-)
From every point of reasonable view, men and women are very different and have different interests for the most part. Why are there no women in bricklaying? Should we campaign for that as well? Or do we just want women to have equal job numbers in the nice jobs?
Jesus, have to feel sorry for you if you cant understand or appreciate beautiful and hearfelt music, and some of the finest singing out there maybe, this is bloody gorgeous! It shows real talent to create such a haunting atmosphere with the back-up singers and band.
