I was an Eagle now I am a Dove. Preyed upon through life though I shall always arise as a Phoenix and return back into an Eagle. I fell in love @ first site though needed affirmations to feel loved only by the one I loved at 17years. Love your music! ♥️ You know! You've always known!
Transcendent... Saw her open her show with this medley a few years ago at a small theater on the outskirts of Seattle. I believe it was a fairly early stop on her tour to support Once I was an Eagle. I don't think the record had yet been released at the time, so I hadn't heard any of the songs before. It was absolutely mesmerizing - just Laura Marling and her guitar. I didn't imagine what it might sound like with a full band, let alone an orchestra. But, as evidenced here, truly great song writing can be performed any number of ways and still be amazing. So, yeah... transcendent.
Laura lived in my neighborhood in Los Angeles for a bit. It was uplifting to see a legend running errands near your home. Never fessed my love for her. Space and privacy are important. Good times. Vastly underappreciated.
Seldom has there been a singer who offers such a startling contrast between marvelous vocal purity and control and nuance on the one hand and such utter lack of facial expressiveness. Watching her is a lesser experience than listening to her. I am applying the familiar standard we'd apply to an operatic singer, a pop singer, a jazz singer. We want these people to convey some passion with their bodies. Laura Marling, whose voice is extraordinarily effective, generally comes off as robotic in performance.
Well considering she has her own style and actually tries beautiful new sounds on each album... whereas Ed Sheeran is happy just to continue writing the same old 3 chord songs I think you can compare them from an artistic perspective.
