Luckily, in my life I have been fortunate enough to see live Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Fleetwood Mac, Roger Waters, David Gilmour, Depeche Mode, Simple Minds, Tears for Fears, Blue Oyster Cult, Barclay James Harvest. It’ll never be the same as actually living through the counter culture of the time, but there are younguns like me that still appreciate real music :)

What a time it must have been with so much talent in the area,and the Troubadour Club nearby. To see all the interlinks is fascinating,i didn't realise Glenn Frey played with Bob Seger .A fairly small group that influenced a generation with music that has stood the test of time. Hi Tim and Randy Love your Laurel Canyon tours and canyon knowledge. Fascinating scenery and history. I was curious about the House with the Robert Mitchum bust. Fascinating story which is reported in the Los Angeles Times, Jan 11, 1949 issue. In that article a different house number is given. From that article Lila Leeds, who was also charged and convicted, subleased the house from Virginia Hyland who leased from Nanette Bordeaux. Bordeaux sued Mitchum for damages to the home from the invasion. Only in Laurel Canyon. some stories!!

Indeed it is. I love your work. I am fascinated with Laurel Canyon. I’m an artist and I’m working on a painting of “the very very fine house.” In another blog, you have covered that house. An interesting tid bit I just stumbled across, in a 2018 interview Joni released the location of the house she painted inside the skirt of her “Ladies of the Canyon” album cover. I believe It’s the house at the corner of lookout mountain and Stanley Hills. Take notice of the shape of the house and the garage underneath. The scalloped trim on the roof was also a hint although one side is now missing. In her obscure painting, there is a VW Beatle in the garage. How cool!
@RockessentialTim
@RockessentialTim 2 года назад
@@janedoyle8411 I can't tell if that's the house on the corner from the painting. According to Randy, who lives on Stanley Hills, the big, tall house on the SW corner of Stanley Hills and Lookout used to be inhabited by Chaka Khan.

The other open space for hiking in the Valley is the CSUN campus. Its big enough to get a few miles in without dealing with cars. In a place like LA, open and green areas are few. 2:33 - Probably not what most people imagine when they think about the Hollywood Hills!
@chineseslaves1971
@chineseslaves1971 4 года назад
DeflatingAtheism , Right, the roads are skinny, steep, curvy and dangerous..especially since so much alleged drug use went on. They only had that Canyon Country store to walk in... just some packaged food. Makes you long for Trader Joe’s. It’s close to their jobs, and they were young...but they also made good money at younger ages as was the case with much of the population trained for it back then. They didn’t have everything. The roads were also very cracked when I went about 4 years ago...much too much for a neighborhood that is now expensive. Hollywood Hills is not what people would imagine, and it’s not near the ocean, where there are very nice neighborhoods that get no press but are much safer. I like the quiet low profile ones. The high profile ones are more of an circumstantial occurrence. The lower profile ones were actually planned better. The baristas at the Canyon Country store were super nice on the patio.

"Good luck getting up there, after a few beers." This is what I don't understand about Laurel Canyon- with all the debauchery in the '70s, and the megalodon-sized El Dorados they drove at the time, surely more than a few people have had a few too many substances, swerved two feet off to the side of one of those twisty one-lane dirt roads, and tumbled down a ravine.

The backround music and stories were interesting ; watching you walk the neighborhood was cool ~ but you would introduce a musicians house and eventually point the camera at it for two seconds ! I lost interest because I did not choose to wait for that short moment when you would finally remember to point the camera at the celebrity homes. Sorry guys ~ you lost me there... < ** >

That last house had a tram that went up to the house when I was in jr high school there was a huge party there a bunch of kids got on the tram consequently it broke and severely hurt a boy hanging on the outside of the tram. I’m almost 100% positive that was the house it’s been 50 years ago but I’m sure that’s it. Looks like the tracks are there whether they are functional I don’t know.

The trams still work and I'm guessing it was the house cuz its pretty unforgettable looking.

Such mixed feelings about the Canyon, a beautiful inspiring area but such a density of suspiciously rich folk, I try to dwell on the naivety/innocence of the time but little if anything works that way, the dog pulling the guy around is kind of emblematic of the mindset of that whole scene for me

Your Lennon history is messed up. He didn't make Walls and Bridges until he straightened up, learned to enjoy living with himself and went back to New York.

Neil Young....BS 1967 Boston. BS would tune their guitars prior to each song and the crowd got antsy NY responded....Hey man if we were just playing for you we wouldn't bother tuning at all...Dead silence...

Stop using the word 'infamous' please. John Lennon is NOT infamous. David Crosby is a lot more than that. It detracts.
