Lauterbrunnen,Switzerland-The Weisse Lütschine flows through the valley . Because of the many waterfalls, the Lauterbrunnen Valley is also called the valley of the 72 waterfalls . From Stechelberg ( 919 m above sea level ) to the summit of the Jungfrau ( 4158 m above sea level ) the difference in altitude is 3239 metres, with the horizontal distance being only 4630 metres. The rear part of the valley is a nature reserve and part of the Jungfrau-Aletsch-Bietschhorn UNESCO World Heritage Site .
In the vicinity of the valley there are many tourist attractions such as the Schilthorn , the Jungfraujoch , the Lobhörner , the Mannlichen , the Kleine Scheidegg with the Eiger , Mönch and Jungfrau . The Trogtal formed by glaciers contains numerous waterfalls, the most famous being the Staubbach Falls and the Trummelbach Falls. The Mürrenbachfall with a drop of 417 meters and the Buchenbachfall with a drop of 380 meters are the two highest waterfalls in Switzerland. At 297 meters, the Staubbach Falls are the highest free-falling waterfall in Switzerland. The Mattenbachfall as a cascading waterfall, with its 840 meters, is the third highest waterfall in Europe and the eighth highest in the world, just behind the Vinnufallet and the Skorga .
