Thank you, GutnTog ("Good Day" - I presume?) - some of your best work yet. This stuff is breath-takingly beautiful, mesmerizing, terrifying ... but most of all: almost magical; almost alive. Your best work yet!
Your new camera is excellent. Some is due to your fine technique recording these past weeks and months. This particular flow stunned me. Nature is amazing. Beautiful and terrible at the same time. Stay safe.
I love that you've made a longer video, GutnTog. It's nice to have one that I can enjoy my coffee (with 40% milk fat cream) and watch uninterrupted. Greetings and blessings to you and Nina, from this Hawai'ian living in Montana USA.
It is also amazing how the sound of it changes as the consistency changes. Occasionally, you can even hear it over the wind in some of this footage. But, every viscosity has its own sound.
@@yzScott As the lava cools, it forms a crust of black glass, which cracks and breaks as the lava beneath continues to move. Thicker glass makes a lower sound, while thinner is higher. They're called "clinkers." To me, the clinkers sound like windchimes. Like you and @Lyle, I'm fascinated by this Fagradalsfjall volcano and its lava.
If 0°C was set at lava's freezing point rather than water, lava would enter an atmosphere nearly 900° below 0°. What looks like a burnt casserole with too much time under the broiler is actually frostbite.
Thank you and your wife for your constant updates. Your content is amazing. I wish to commend you on your diligence. We all know it takes alot of time and effort in this. From travel to and from, editing, reading and responding to all of the comments. You guys are top notch. Thanks again from Glenside Pa. God bless and keep you both safe.
I appreciate your RU-vid handle. If you want lava flowing into the sea, check out videos from Hawai'i, while you're waiting. You'll be more than satisfied.
@@grandama777 Actually no, they are now actively 'persuading' the lava to go to the sea, even at the expense of the road and that one farm, in order to stop it heading toward Grindavik and the power plant.
@@jeanettefunderburg166 Natthagikriki also could be a useful farming area which can easily be saved, there is a rise at the end of Natthagii Valley that I think they should cut a channel through to direct the lava to where they want it to go, rather than letting that valley build to the height where Natthagikriki becomes threatened. The road was expensive to build but they will only lose a small part of it, maybe a temporary overpass could be constructed, 🤔 But the main hope I think is that the fiber-optic cables have been buried deep enough now to save their multi million$ connection to the world. 🤞
At about 7:20, the video captures something that perplexed me for a while when I first arrived. I would occasionally hear these bass thumps, like a fireworks mortar launching. This happens all along the edge of a growing lava field. Sometimes they are pretty attention getting. As always, great work. You make my need to return almost painful.
it is hard to imagine that the volcano has spewed out 270million cubic metres until you see the extent of the lava. awe inspiring, just proves we are incapable of stopping it.
Truly stunning video. Nice new camera. When that lava flows so fast it does look like hell on earth. The people sure moved quick at least. That'd be spooky! Thank you for providing the "outside" world with what's going on, way over there in Iceland!
@@Tasarte That is 15 days ago, at 30m2 per second since then it must be nearly double that now. How it is affecting the 'global warming measuring station near the capital?
Watching the lava is endlessly fascinating. It pours, cascades, oozes, slithers; it takes on many shapes and textures, and all the while it just moves relentlessly onward! Greetings from London, ON Canada
Yes, a big thank you for all your videos. I watch with interest and I marvel at these ‘moving pictures’ …. How lucky we are to follow along with the relentless flow of lava, it makes my toes curl watching how fierce it can be. AND…… only 862 miles from my house in Belfast!!!! I worry about the people living with bad air quality in these days. When I see the mantle of the earth being thrust up like this I just think to myself “that’s not that far away from me”! Thanks again.
Thanks for all you do to document this historic event. Next time, I don't mind the close ups, its just a little too much. I would like to see a wider view of what is going on. Please stay safe.
I am waiting for my nail polish to dry as I have to go to an opera gala. I would much prefer to stay home and catch up on your videos....Each section is this video is better than the previous one, and as always, I am so grateful! ❤️
Would be nice for a ceramic potter to gather up samples and grind it into usable ash to make glazes. It takes at least cone 6 temps for it to melt into a glaze...depends on the other chemicals you mix in with it. My parents brought me some ash from Mt. St. Hellen's but not enough to experiment with very much.
GutnHog you're the best !! without drone nor helicopter. Pure poetry, you embrace this volcano with your sensibility. Great artist in front of Nature. Your nickname for me now is "HOTLAVA", unquestionably. Best regards
Thanks. I tried to concentrate on the lava primarily. Many miss that by just staring at the crater but I hunt for lava and for lava closeups one doesn't need a helicopter or drone of course....lava is unique!
OMG 😱 Looks like the Pahoehoe Lava has morphed back to Blocky Lava. @30:20. And I wonder 💭, if the high shooting eruption from the 🌋 Vent, indicates the Source has charged again too? This volcanic system has shown us so much about the 🌍 Magma makeup.
I bought a cross cut piece of a lava bomb from St. Lucia on my honeymoon. They are actually bookends. Slice them and polish them. Truly amazing to see Mother Earth showing off! Thanks for sharing!
😄😄😬 could be me! It is so fascinating, mesmerizing to watch in all its different forms and speeds! I don't remember all of the footage though I thought I had watched all his videos! Anyway, you have to make sacrifices for that volcano! Enjoy your meal anyway! (Btw are you from Ireland ir Scotland, can't remember! Love both!)😄😄🙈🍀🍀🍀🍝🍜🍝❤🤍❤👍👍👍🇨🇮🇩🇪🏴
@@grandama777 He didn't walk on the lava .... cooled or otherwise. Merely got separated from his wife to the point that he got lost in the heavy fog. Search parties struggled on the fog. No ones fault and no need for comment that insinuates the poor chap did anything wrong, dangerous, or untoward. Thank goodness 5he Icelandic people are far superior in their compassion and understanding.
I liked your videos better when you used your microphone cover for a short time and when you date stamped your videos. You do keep us up to date better than anyone. TY
One of the unique and fascinating characteristics of this volcano is alternating a'a and pahoehoe lava. Typically this is caused by a change in the geochemistry; however, the geochemistry stabilized in April. The one consistent difference is the color indicating temperature. The a'a is orange so it is cooler than the yellow pahoehoe (not counting the crust). The cooler the lava, the more viscous. What causes the alternating temperatures is a mystery, very unusual.
Those two little mini-explosions of gas out from underneath the streaming lava at the edge of the lichen/moss, were unexpected. Another reason why visitors should respect the process. We really cannot expect the unexpected. Plus, we are just finding out what it takes to build a future shield volcano. I’m so glad you focus on the subtle things, not just the impressive blow-ups. I really like your bird, flower, old geological formation and rock analyzes. A departure from the rest. So fascinating !
Thank you Roman for this great video! The massive lava is shocking! Where does it go? Which direction? Is it proceeding toward the ocean by the road? Is it heading for the little farm where they moved the house? So many questions I know. But this is not slowing down and it is easy to lose track. Thank you for this video. Massive amounts of lava is moving...I would think in all directions? Wow! Who would have ever guessed it would turn into this monster! Are there concerns in Iceland we don't know? We don't have much contact with your local news and they never seem to make public statements or reach out to large international communications such as CNN or Fox News who have studios all over the world. The smaller once are more localized and many of us wouldn't know about it unless you watch them daily. In the US the TV stations are politically divided and that presents another problem. People are stuck on which they watch. this irruption has become a world event I would think and truly epic! Where else is there a volcano right now of this magnitude? I would like to know if there is. I doubt it. Constant massive flow and no sign of slowing down! Amazing!
It's nothing really. In 2018 Kilauea threw out 1.2 billion cubic yards of the stuff. Both Etna and Kilauea are constantly erupting. This could go on for years mind, it's a slow burn
@@tracboy80 Kilauea isn't erupting, after decades of doing so. I was there the last two weeks of May, and aside from higher than usual sulfur dioxide emissions, there's nothing going on right now. But you're absolutely right. This Fagradalsfjall volcano could be a very slow burn (literally!).
Thank you GutnTog for this video. Yes they found him….. I was hoping Roman could find out more. The channel’s owner’s ( that reported it) English was not as good as Roman’s. I am hard of hearing so accents are hard for me to hear. His wife is a Dr. They solit up and his phone was in the car. He had slipped a lot of rocks and dehydrated He was a long way the other way. Fog can mix you up
Is it still spewing out lava, GutnTog? I haven't seen news of the crater recently? I guess it's hard to get close to now? I was just wondering if it has stopped or slowed down?
Look for drone footage on this 🌋 I watched these, very impressive! 👀 Today; youtu.be/4ZGCcbn6 1 day ago; ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_rGXSqcnYDo.html
It sounds like it is raining pretty hard, the lava has a bit of a sizzle to it this time around. As close as some of these people are getting they are flirting with disaster, one wrong step and at the very least they have some very nasty burns. Did they ever find that missing hiker? Ohas he become the victim of his own stupidity. Walking on the lava crust is about the stupidest thing ever while this volcano is going off.
