👉 Learn how to determine if a given SSA triangle has 1, 2 or no possible triangles. Given two adjacent side lengths and an angle opposite one of them (SSA or ASS), then there are 3 possible cases: there can be 1 solution, 2 solutions, and no solution.
Using the law of sines, we can obtain the value of the angle opposite the second given side length.
Case 1: If the product of the sine of the given angle and the given side adjacent to the given angle is greater than the given side opposite the given angle, then there is no possible solution satisfying the given values.
Case 2: If the obtained angle is greater than the given angle, then there are 2 possible solutions satisfying the given values.
Case 3: If the obtained angle is less than the given angle, then there is only 1 possible solution satisfying the given values.

Out of many math videos that I have watched this is probably the first one where teacher does the proportion computations in memory, without dabbling division on both sides. And I like this streamlined way a lot.

@soccer4livingsz
@soccer4livingsz 10 лет назад
Mr. McLogan's Math Channel aren't the obtuse angles supplementary? can't you just find the 105degrees and the 60degrees to find the 3rd angle? 105.79 + 60= 165.79. then, subtract 180 from the 165.79 and you get the 14.21. thats how my teacher taught us and I thought it was a little less work than you're example which was also correct.
@brianmclogan
@brianmclogan 10 лет назад
yes, I work many different examples in many different ways, you just caught the video where I went through that process

Ur videos are really helpful, but I don’t understand u did 9(sin45.7/sin60) to get 7.43 but u have to do (9sin45.7)/sin60. But for the second triangle u did (10sin14.21)/105. So which one is correct?

Why can't we subtract 360-angle or 270-angle? Why does it have to be 180-ange?
@Corzplaysgames
@Corzplaysgames 5 лет назад
because triangles only go up to 180 degrees
@mons9974
@mons9974 3 года назад
if you're trying to find the two possible values of angle B (given that it is less than 90 degrees/ acute angle), u have to subtract 180 - angle B, as both are in the first and second quadrant. As the other person said when adding up all the degrees of a triangle it is equal to 180.
@alainlee9579
@alainlee9579 6 лет назад
so do we always subtracts from 180 everytime we find inverse oh any cases ?
@brianmclogan

we subtract from 180 to see if there is another possible angle
