What Anna said about combining logical reasoning from math, with the skills used in writing and analyzing texts is the same reason I'm thinking a lot about law even though I'm a junior studying computer science. I can't see myself developing software for much longer. Law may be the answer...

I think if I went straight through, I would have been really burnt out. I did take over a decade off, but it really gave me time to ensure that the huge financial plunge is worth it! Thanks for the video and I can't wait to watch more.

You know when I first started watching your channel, I couldn't really appreciate this video because I was far too early in the admissions process. But now I realize it is such a gem of a video haha. Incoming 1L at a T14 and everything you guys said strongly resonated with me, from the perspective working gives you on school, to the shock of transitioning from a very exploratory undergraduate program to a more analytical kind of law school education, etc. Amazing video

when I was in college I did some legal internships (in governments and whatnot) and was like wtf the world is so dark this is not for me (especially when I got a 167 I was like this is not for me lol). fast forward after working for two years (during which I stumbled upon your channel), having taken my GRE and applied to MA programs, I suddenly thought hmm I miss the LSAT. so I studied and now have a 170+ and have turned down the MA offers and will be applying to law school next year! and now I'm watching your videos again with a totally different mindset, knowing that Duke is my dream school and putting myself in an incoming 1L's shoes.

Wow! Thank you a lot for making this. I am actually considering law school, and, I thought I was maybe just... crazy... But, hearing your friend say how taking a few years off after undergrad school (which I did! Which is what made me MORE nervous!) can actually be a GOOD thing? That made me feel a lot better, that it may be something to my advantage, rather than my hindrance. 🙏💙

I’m in high school, and at my high school we have academies. I’m in the academy of Law and Public Safety. In three years, I’ve learned basics of criminal, civil, family, & contract law. The point of me saying all this is that I have interest in law, however I’m still really confused :// how do you know if you’re fit for law? && what do you even major in undergrad. I really appreciate this video!! It’s really cool to see someone who was also unsure about law in high school

You said in other videos that it is important to take our own notes- are there some tips for you to take good notes? Do you just write down everything? Also, are there some things you wish you had known (specifically a month lol ) before you started your first year? What is your daily routine like?
@FortheTimeBeingchannel
@FortheTimeBeingchannel 6 лет назад
Hey Gabbie, I have videos on both of those topics :) check them out on my channel! For note-taking, I actually take most of my notes before class while reading the cases. Then during class I will add relevant notes from the professors or good points from other students

This video was really informative... so I’ve been considering going to law school. However, if I’ve already taken a gap year between high school and college (took a year off of school to work and figure life out basically) do you think it would be beneficial to take another year off between undergrad and law school? Thx :D

Depends on your personal situation (finances, interests) but in general, yes!
@collinwright6127
@collinwright6127 5 лет назад
Great video! Thank you for making all of these. My question is about the classes and the way they were structured. Were the classes basically the professor saying "read these cases" and "read this section of the book"? Or was there actual teaching?
@FortheTimeBeingchannel
@FortheTimeBeingchannel 5 лет назад
In my classes, the professor will assign reading to be completed before the class (usually a series of cases). Then during the class, the professor will explain the cases (or all on students to explain why cases were decided the way they were) and draw connections between them, basically.

I am currently in law school taking Constitution law. My school divides it up into Con I and II. Im in Con I dealing with the separation of powers etc. I am bored to death and does not help its the professors 1st time teaching the course. How do you suggest to stay engaged when you absolutely cannot get pumped up about the subject matter??
@FortheTimeBeingchannel
@FortheTimeBeingchannel 5 лет назад
It’s definitely a struggle for me too sometimes! For Conlaw I think it can help to think about the ways in which these rules are operating and being challenged in our current state. For example, the power of the Supreme Court to decide issues that some people think should fall within the legislative realm only, or whether Trump can fire Mueller since Mueller is within the executive branch, all have implications within the separation of powers doctrine.

Get a bachelors degree with a good GPA (3.6 or higher). During your senior year of your undergrad, study for and take the LSAT. Visit and tour law schools. Get at least 3 letter of recommendations. Apply through LSAC.org. Wait for decisions. Get accepted. Make deposit on the school you choose. Attend!
@andersonportillo3730
@andersonportillo3730 4 года назад
The next step is getting a bachelor degree with a high gpa like 3.5 and above. Then, study for the LSAT exam and score high on the exam. I would say try different job experiences or obtaining a higher education before going to law school, because both of these students previously worked in a different field. I would not jump right ahead to law school, because you first have to find yourself.

@FortheTimeBeingchannel
@FortheTimeBeingchannel 6 лет назад
There are many reasons. To expand your mental horizons and learn different ways of problem-solving, for one. Some lawyers, like patent specialists, also benefit from having a scientific or technical background. Finally, there are people who simply want to pursue other intellectual interests or are interested in trying out different careers and would like to have a few different skill sets and substantive expertise areas under their belt.

There is ALOT of reading and now legal writing courses...I do not regret my decision of attending but also you have to be aware of how much pressure you can handle juggling everything
