LAW SCHOOL ADVICE I DID NOT FOLLOW
Hi guys! This video talks about six common pieces of advice to law students and future law students concerning law school THAT I DID NOT FOLLOW. Some of this advice (in my opinion) isn't the best advice and some just isn't necessary to succeed in law school. Check it out and let me know what you think in the comments!

As a 2L, I have to agree with all you said. This advice is GOLD...especially if you don't come from a family of lawyers. There are TONS of misconceptions about law school and it's good to know what's what before you go :)

Same. I don't come from a family of lawyers either. And Reddit advice is questionable at best. As a rising 1L it is good to hear you confirm how great her advice is!

I love seeing these advice videos, you are definitely filling a need. I'm a practicing attorney (criminal law) and there was LITTLE in the way of advice videos for law school back in 2013-2016 lol

I’m in the process of getting law school acceptances. Law school finally feels real and I started looking into resources to prepare for law school. I’m grateful that I came across this video. The outline advice makes a lot of sense. I am a visual learner so going over it, following along, and adapting it to my understanding is what I will do. Thank you!! It’s a little hard to go with the advice of just enjoying life this upcoming summer bc I’m nervous but I’m gonna try to follow that advice as well.

Great video! I am interested in law school I have my bachelor's (Dec 2019 graduate). But still seeing what is my best next step. It would be cool if you did a video on law rankings and how it plays apart in the job market. Or if getting a master's before law school help with better pay in positions

Thank you! Ok yes i can do a video more specifically on the law rankings as i only touched on it throughout precious videos. I personally think a masters before law school is unnecessary and wouldn’t spent the money on it. Everyone has their own views but I’d say unless you were going to get some work experience with that masters in between, go ahead and go straight to law school (or you can look into a dual mba/jd).

I would say it you're a slow learner of new concepts, it doesn't hurt to spend some free time getting familiar with a Civ Pro outline... all I'm sayin.

I agree with all of this!! It honestly may be more beneficial to major in something other than pre-law or political science in undergrad because it sets you apart from the 80% of applicants who did those majors (law schools love STEM students). The people at the top of my class have business degrees/teaching degrees/etc.

Thank you for this video ❤I resigned from a job I didn’t like to move to Florida to be near my mom 👵🏾who is getting older. I don’t want another job that I’m not interested in and only went to college to apply to one small law school which I did 20 years ago. But I didn’t get in. I decided to apply to law school again but definitely going to apply to more schools (most of them will be in the state of Florida or near the state of Florida). Your video has inspired me as I am applying again for law school. I heard all that advice 20 years ago. Even majored in political science but I did enjoyed my major and was able to get good grades (A’s and B’s). Anyway thanks for the advice and your perspective on law school 🏫 in the video.

Conversely, if you do choose to study during the summer before Law School, you can probably have an easier 1L and save yourself some mental exhaustion. If you burn out easy, it probably is a good idea to do some reading in the summer. Watch some RU-vid videos on the basics. I hate this whole "don't do anything as a 0L' advice that is the norm.

As a 1L, I can verify that doing a detailed brief for every course is insanity. If you are spending time doing that, you are missing out on doing any actual studying for the exams. Our law school is closed book exams. We just took our closed book midterms. It was absolutely essential you had time to memorize the rule's you were going to use in your exams. That takes a few hours spread out over weeks. If you are briefing every case, good luck with having the mental ability and stamina to prepare for the exams. I would listen to her about this.

Thank you for the video, I am a prospective law student enrolling in 2021 and it was very informative! I have a few questions, how do you ask for 2L’s outlines at the beginning of the year? Do you just walk up to them and ask for the outlines? Buy it maybe? And how do know who to ask? For the “making short brief” advice, how long would your brief be? And you said “within the books” were you basically taking short notes? Do you have any pictures of what it’d look like just to get a clearer idea? Sorry I have a lot of questions 😅 thank you very much again your channel is amazing!

Big Lew regarding asking for outlines, you’ll find that some people will offer but yes you can definitely ask. My 1l year i got some of my outlines from some 2ls but then some from other 1Ls who had met the right people. Your 1L year you are broken up into sections and so you’ll become close with the people in your section and network with people to get good outlines. Also different organizations will usually have an outline bank you can access. For briefing, you’ll learn what is called the IRAC method (issue, rule, analysis, conclusion) and that will guide you on briefing. As long as you have notes filled in for each of those items, you should be equipped to answer if cold called in class. Let me dig around in my old files to see if i can find anything worth filming and If i do I’ll show some materials in a separate video.

They seemed to handle it pretty well but its seems like you have to make more an effort to be organized and good with time management! Are you thinking about doing a part time program?

The Aspiring Boss I am, I’m 34 and well into a career. Originally I wanted to go full time but stepping away from my career when I can go part time isn’t really wise. I’m in the DC area so ideally Georgetown is my top choice. I however want to be a federal prosecutor. Love your channel!!

I graduate in December 2020 and i have been accepted to a law school which offers year round enrollment and an accelerated 2 year program. I want to get my JD as fast as possible but at the same time I’m nervous about going through law school for 2 years straight. Have you met any lawyers who have done this? (P.s love your videos! I have a playlist of law school videos i listen to when i study and a bunch of yours are on it)

Antonio Ray Jr thanks so much for watching! CONGRATS ON YOUR ACCEPTANCE. I haven’t met anyone who did the accelerated program, I am not even sure If my school offered it! It seems pretty cool and doesn’t sound like i would be opposed to. You’d just have to adjust to the “no break” thing which sucks but being done a whole year early would be worth it. I’m sure the curriculum is manageable if they offer it. Hope that helps!
