He is finally here. Additional info on neutral special: Every player can only have one attack marked at a time, getting a new attack marked will overwrite any previous marks.
So THIS was who ??? was supposed to be! This is a fantastic representation of DSP. Instead of just resorting to making him an unplayable joke and calling it a day, you made DSP the best deadly joke character to perfectly showcase how crazy Lawl can be compared to Smash. Having DSP profit from dying is simply hilarious, and being rewarded for playing horribly is how you should play DSP. Utilizing "bullshit" that tormented DSP in his own moveset represents him well, and makes me feel like he would hate fighting against himself in the Lawl game. This moveset was fantastic and I can really tell you had fun creating him. Plus, it's amazing seeing my character cameo in Lawl game, thanks!
You can't just drop your entire mystery character on me at 2 am But this sure as hell delivers the best qualities on our friend Phil. From attacking about 5 seconds later than he should, to a dedicated mechanic involving calling things bullshit, down to half the moveset having Phil not shut the hell up. It really does feel like putting yourself in DSP's shoes, in both the best and worst way possible. Him being terrifyingly effective in damage and bullshitting his opponents just as hard just feels like the cherry on top. Basically, this is the funniest joke I've seen in a while. It was entirely worth the mystery.
This moveset is bullshit... but the really good kind of bullshit! Throughout the whole 10 minutes, I couldn't stop laughing my ass off. From the bullshit meter, to the 10 different K.O. sounds, to the angry ranting during his lose pose, you totally nailed everything about DSP and his bullshit. Also thank you so, so, so much for the Nico cameo!!!
I'M ACTUALLY LOSING MY MIND This is a literally perfect moveset for DSP. I could not imagine a better version of this. I had no idea you would do this character and I'm so happy you did. Genuinely amazing job man. I love your work so much, and good luck on the Lawl Game!
DSP would probably be the funniest character to play as, mainly because of the way he works. While he does have very crappy stats when contrasted to everyone else, the meter makes players think carefully before using moves, which in turn requires more complex strategies than most others. While his smash attacks deal a large amount of output, he takes forever to pull them off, meaning that the Down B would be ideal for that situation. Plus, the variety of KO sounds he has makes him all the more hilarious to watch in action.
I love how you gave DSP the "BS meter" mechanic, as it represents his personality in Smash very well. I'm glad I saw this video! Edit: The fact that DSP has *10 freaking KO sounds* really cracked me up as well.
I can tell, that you had an absolute blast designing this moveset! The research that went into DarkSydePhil’s LPs, the people around him's In-Jokes, and general personality, shined hilariously in this moveset that’s anything but bullshit. From the perfectly fitting meter mechanic, to being able to hold down smash as long as you want (though how useful it is given the pitiful range and speed, is up to you). To the unbelievably large amount of salt coming from KO sounds and victories. To the not-so-little things like everyone’s gorgeous animations on display, with Niko’s up air and the live action characters idles being sheer highlights. Seriously, major props for making what’re easily some of the trickiest characters to animate look so natural in Lawl Demic. There’s just so many exciting, wonderful ideas to swim through here, getting unstuck from this great lake of a video’s so challenging. Sorry for not getting to this video sooner. It’s just, DSP is someone I’m not really connected to personally. Heck, I was debating on whether or not I should give my thoughts with the man’s history being something I’d rather not delve into. That’s not fair though, because this moveset (and that Final Smash that finishes any hope DSP’s opposition had) is something that clearly means a lot to you. Keeping something this secret for so long, I can only imagine how excited you were to unleash this stroke of genius moveset writing to your friends and viewers. I just want to thank and give respect to ya, Esrion. Hope you’re able to keep on doing what’s proven to be a fun, engaging passion project for years to come, and may your admiration and ever growing wave of fresh ideas never go stale (unlike, well, the man who’s reputation is notorious for being just that, stale)
This is one of the best movesets I have ever seen (and funniest!) His playstyle is very unique since his standard moves and stats are really crap but you've made his special moves really make DSP stand out. I genuinely couldn't stop laughing at the KO sounds and I love the fact his KO sounds are really long since that's how someone in real life would say after being KO'ed in a smash game aswell as the victory screens! I woke up early to see this and i was not disappointed. Take all the time you need to make this game happen! :)
I was slightly worried about the moveset at first when it was specifically said he was a Joke Moveset, but I was pleasantly surprised by this. Even if Neutral and Side B are similar looking, I love how the entire moveset was based around the things DSP often complains about or complaining to the other fighters, it was creative as fuck. And the fact he can simply charge up his moves forever and still increase damage sounds somewhat impractical but still fun. Only thing I am wondering, if you use a move that requires the Bullshit meter, and you don't have enough, does it just not work or do you get penalized? Like using the Neutral B counter but not having 50 points for example. I also really appreciated seeing a lot of the characters using normals, it makes them feel more complete (which makes sense how this is literally a game), and of course, the KO and Losing rants were hilarious. By the way nice nod to the game DSP was paid to play and dropped because of one boss.
the counter wouldn't come out if you don't have the meter side and down special wouldn't spawn the giant hand or the shockwave but still play the animation, leaving you open
This is a really great moveset, both for capturing DSP's "bullshit" nature and using said nature to make himself enjoyable to play as / against. It's pretty much everything that makes a joke character likable: Funny aspects, Well-grasped source material, and Original ideas, all without leaving-out dah Viability. Awesome job.
See if there's one thing I love about Lawl other then the concept itself and many users execution of the concept is "Joke characters" cause really they're nothing to joke about with how many unique things they bring to the table making them feel less like a joke and more like a normal character with a steep learning curve.
Just crossed paths with this video and I have to say this is a really good Lawl. I like how in contrast to his mediocre stats he has several features to discard attacks coming his way. It's also nice to see joke character that isn't just to make some random moveset for. Excited to see what else is in store!
FINALLY! I was waiting for someone to do a Lawl moveset for DSP. At least it's not fucking Inanimate Insanity related unlike almost every other Lawl variant there is. (BTW I can't wait for Niko's moveset)
Despite my disappointment from my anticipation of the mystery character This is probably your best moveset yet, and it is just so long, crazy, and stupid it is perfect, but then again I have no clue who DSP even is
This had more effort put into it than 10 years of DSP content lmao. It was fucking hilarious man. If I had to nitpick, I was surprised that you didn't sneak in his infamous "incident" in as a taunt or somthing. Maybe cause Lawl has a horniness mechanic, you can make that his horny animation lmao?
This came out when it was not even 1 AM so I'm very tired, I can't exactly analyze this and give sound advice..but god, you've done a fantastic job Esri. Just know that I'm super impressed
I have a question about the game will you be able to delete a character from the game since in the game you can make characters than will that mean you can remove them too for example if the player doesn't want to have any of the default characters that come with the game then can they be removed? And same thing for the stages?
This is pretty awesome work. I would work on a series of my own thou I'm still waiting on the Smash Lawl Character Creator tool. How is that going by the way, Seem like it near completion by the look of it. :)
TMC55 yes his stance and attacks look really good and his voice lines are funny as hell. Also very well thought out and unique gameplay . Overall very impressive
