Can I just say the marksmanship on display here is a sight to behold. Can you imagine the discipline and control it takes not to hit anything with a shotgun at that range, that man has skill.

That’s actually a pretty good distance for a shotgun, especially at the time. It probably didn’t have a choke on it either which controls the shot spread distance. Basically unless you were shooting slugs at that distance you probably were going to miss at least 60% of the rounds you fired. And even if you managed to hit something the velocity was tamped down substantially the further the buckshot traveled.

Howard as he's depicted is quite nearly a cryptid, he's someone people tell campfire stories about. He makes moonshine and protects his family and is literally a force of nature when disturbed. His screams alone terrified a group of armed officers and he moves like an animal.

That was an original WWI trench gun, model 1897 Winchester pump. They came with a barrel shroud and a bayonet lug. They had a 20" tube and took Springfield 03A3 bayonets

@@mH8675309 - depends on who makes the ammo. 8 or 9 pellets of 00 buck are the most common. we can assume he was using 00. also, 1 pellet in a 9 pellet load tends to not fly in the pattern with rest and go way off. something to do with the way they pack 9 pellet loads.

After the civil when sound recording started to be a thing a bunch of Confederate soldiers were together for something, I can't remember what it was for. They were all old af at the time, but they recorded them doing the rebel yell and it sounded just like this.

I think I know what you're talking about. There's an old black and white video of Gettysburg veterans from both sides meeting eachother on either sides of the stone wall the Union were behind during Pickett's charge. They then do the rebel yell for the camera, I'm sure back in the day they could yell so loud they put the fear of god in every federal for miles (they copied the American Native Indian yell) but they're all old and getting on, so it was very weak, great effort though.
