Start a small gas engine with gas assist. I took apart the carburetor on this lawnmower twice and cleaned it out with solvent and couldn't get it to run until I did this.
47 years old and I am sure going to use this one as I have already done spray bottle with gas and have been able to get a rag with gas on it will run in carb throat pump sprayer with gas hooked to inlet of carb trying to get a used one to run it will take a little carb cleaning to get today's crap fuel out of needles and seats just because it has a cover in condensation that is still going to have moisture in the atmosphere that you have to take inside the air-conditioning 😮 to stop 🛑
Been doing that for years and it works great. Also you can put some gas in an empty Windex bottle and just spray a couple of shots in the carb throat. Engine will start all the time.
Right I got tired of taking it apart so many damn times I would just stick this torch into it to get it to run, even though I knew that wasn’t fixed. I just didn’t wanna take it apart for like the hundredth time.
I have been using propane like that to prime engines for many years... it's extremely handy for some intakes where trying to spray something in there just won't work. Great tip
I had an old neighbor tell me about using propane to start up a mower. One day several years ago, I was draining the tank and replacing the primer bulb. The mower had a broken spring for the cord so it wouldn't wind back up. So to prevent me from winding it up multiple times, I used a lot of starting fluid until everything got primed up. My neighbor saw me shooting starting fluid after I got it running and told me about using propane. Starting using it since until I got a new spring/cord assembly end of 2020. Used it 1 time the following year, then we moved. Then my wife decided to mow for the 1st time since we've been married. Mower caught fire, fire department got called and I lost my 7yr old mower
I mean I usually just tip it to the air filter side for about 5-8 seconds. Old trick my grandpa showed me. Has worked just about every time with hard to start lawnmowers.
Brotha, thank you so much. I have a zero turn but I have a mower which I had sitting for a year now. Didn’t start no matter how hard I pulled. I was disappointed all these videos require you to get parts and take your mower apart. I read your comment and gave it a shot. Worked like a charm. You saved me money and time! Shout out grandpa!
@@mikosmikos-ki9bw yes sir just tip it onto the set of wheels on the air filter side. Your doing it right if the air filter is toward the ground. Might not work with a mower that just absolutely needs a carb clean no way around it but with a mower you’ve been regularly using that just becomes hard start one day this has worked for me way more times then i can count. Especially with these briggs models in this video.
@@gregorykabua2502 almost a year later and this comment helped someone else. Good to hear it worked for you man buys you a little time before eventual repair or replacement lol. God bless!
People worried about the torch lighting from combustion and exploding.. seriously? Ya'll got a smooth brain huh? What you think happens when you light a blow torch? Does it explode? No. There's a check valve type thingy built into propane torches. Usually a cross hole or whatever
What causes this problem? I have the exact same lawnmower and it won’t start unless I spray something inside the intake to get it running than it runs. It’s a brand new lawnmower, new fuel, everything is fresh, there’s no way the carb is dirty so what’s causing this freaking issue?
Take the carb off but don't take it apart...put it in a pot of boiling water for 10 min. Blow with compressed air till it's not dripping water. Spray with carb clean inside the intake and fuel supply and put it back on the machine... fire it up. 9 times out of ten this will clean gunk and gummed fuel out after winter.
Glad my dad didn’t have RU-vid in the late 80s. There was a couple Saturdays I couldn’t get it to fire off so he just say, I’ll look at it later. While playing with friends, he’d do it himself
I have been doing this since I was a kid trying to start my brothers snowmobile, dad used the tiger torch though, it works great if you’re pilot jets are plugged and causing the no start issue
If the pilots are plugged and you run it the chances are good she'll go lean and you'll be snowshoeing home. Know what the results are going to be before getting yourself in too deep!
@@heavysnow8616 lol you obviously don’t know half as much as you think, we never melted a single one down, and starting them on propane was only necessary for the first start of the season, if it needed any more, it got a carb cleaning, because nobody wanted to have it not start when you were not at the shop
I hate the auto choke on push mowers. Installed manual throttle and choke levers on the handlebar and they work beautifully. Best part is I can idle down for low grass and give it the beans for the tall stuff and it just takes it like a champ.
All I hear is “the white mouse will not explode, I repeat, the white mouse will not explode…..DONT YOOOUUUU BELIEVE IIIITTT” (for all my Tom and Jerry fans)
I have a cheap $90 mower I bought from walmart 5 years ago this season.... Starts every time no problem use higher octane gas you wont have this problem
I have a Walmart special from a 2004 yard sale. Called company for information or a booklet. Told me it was sold in 2001. At 70 I now use a self-propelled for most of yard but the "special" is still chugging along for close small areas. Still the best mulcher I've seen!!!! 😅
It's starving for fuel when it's running. Probably why it's hard to start too. Clean or replace the carb. Also, don't run engines on fuels that aren't meant to run on just as a general rule though
@@wesl.946 the jet coming from the bowl in those plastic carburetors are 0.008 of an inch in diameter, any little piece of debris can clog it. bummer design for sure
@@nealpeterson1530 Thanks for the video! I finally got it started after breaking down the carb and cleaning with carb cleaner, spraying starter fluid in the valve, and mixing a little “repair in a bottle” mixture with fresh gas. The lesson is, drain the fuel at the end of season and make sure you leave a little in the tank with fuel stabilizer. The ethanol ruins these engines/carbs.
Friends literally have the same mower believe it or not the carb prob isn't clogged it could use a clean but I popped the plastic off the top and there is a long metal wire that looked super bent adjusted it back to my eye and boom
