My name is Bre. I took two years of small engine repair at the local college. When I left school, I fell into a wonderful job at a local small engine shop where I worked the counter for a couple years. In 2010 my husband and I opened up our own small engine shop in central Arkansas where I am able to work alongside my family and best friends. We see over 2,000 pieces of small engine equipment every year, and answer 1,000's of small engine questions. We specialize in brands such as Briggs and Stratton, Kohler, Echo and Shindaiwa, but work everyday on MANY other brands like Stihl, Husqvarna, Honda, Craftsman, Remington, Red Max, Troy Bilt, Scag, Bad Boy, Hustler, World Lawn, Poulan, Mantis, Etc.. Hopefully, my experience I share, will save you Time, Money and Frustration in the future!

This is exactly why I watch your videos even when I'm not having problems with my lawn equipment. I mainly watch him because I love love watching you fix things. But I'm guilty of jump starting my John Deere riding lawn mower and I didn't know that I shouldn't jump start it with my car running. Thank you again for another great video!

I did not know about the danger of jumping a mower with my vehicle engine running. I guess I've been lucky for all these years, but I will take your advice before my luck runs out.

I knew a guy I should've bought his joystick rider from him. His battery was dead and he broke the stator by jumping with a running vehicle. Then he'd be draining batteries since they wouldn't charge.

@JoshSmith-wo7zw 2 года назад
It's because they transistorize everything now. So you pull too much current through a transistor and all of a sudden the magic white smoke escapes. That and these days everything comes out of ping pang land. So the actual quality of the electrical components really isn't that great. Yes even the quote unquote OE parts are made in ting tong land and imported over here. You really should try charging the battery on a trickle charger for a day or two and see what happens. Because even those Lithium battery based jump starters can actually fry stuff too. Expeacially if it's already low on charge and forget and hook it up anyway you'll end up frying diodes or something like the voltage regular due to the low voltage high current spike that happens as a result of the battery in your Jumpstarter or jumppack whatever you want to call it being low. You want to try to keep those jump packs on charge all the time. Because even if you charge it all the way up but then it sits for 6 months or more before you use it the next time chances are it's not going to crank over whatever your trying to start with it. They do loose charge slowly over time from just sitting not doing anything. So again even a jump pack isn't totally safe. Anything silicon based is very particular about the voltage and current levels that it sees and if you're too far outside of the specific range it's supposed to stay within. Your going to fry something. It's not like the old school ignition modules etc. This new stuff is much more particular about what it sees.

@@JoshSmith-wo7zw many things you stated are plain wrong. I am not gonna explain why because my time is limited but I will mention only one: never ever keep a jump starter on charger the whole time as their internal batteries do not like that and they will prematurely fail.

I got the NOCO one and yes, these things are great. makes my Diehard battery pack useless. However, 1 of my 4 NOCO jump starters died less than a year and was never used, so yeah, that sucked. I may try one of these Gooloo ones, but I am scared of the chinese ones being left in a hot car. Not to say the NOCO is not made in China, but the no name Chinese ones scare me. I ain't trying to say that all China made stuff is crap, it is not, but the cheap no name stuff usually is.

Great video, something else to keep in mind is do not mow with an electric clutch and a discharged battery. Running any electrical loads while the charging system is also charging a depleted battery can burn out the alternator. Some of damage seen from jumpstarting maybe caused by the charging system being overtaxed after startup.
@scorpnz4433

You ought to learn how charging systems work as your claim is wrong. The whole idea of a charging system is precisely designed to do what you say you shouldn't. The alt is never off if you had tested a rideon stator you'd know this. The reg is there for a reason.As for over taxing i refer you to the regulator

Great product. I picked one up after seeing my friend get his bus, (six batteries) from Colorado to West Virginia with a bad alternator. Kept charging it with his wife's van and then using it to keep the bus going. I don't impress easily, and I had to have one. I use it a good bit. Just had to do the same thing with my 7.3 diesel because I accidently left the key on for a few days. I carry it in the saddle bag of my bike every time I go out and have used it to help others. I also got mine on sale ($159.99) and can't say enough good about it for what it is made for.

I bought one of these from your previous recommendation. It was a late night purchase, probably after a couple beers and I felt silly the next day and figured I bought some junk promotional garbage. This thing is awesome! I can't believe how many times I've used it. My Corvette was too dead to open the door and this started it no problem with plenty of juice left. My mower has needed a battery all season, but this thing is so easy to use I've been putting it off. Thanks!

I am going to make a strong awareness recommendation for all modern corvette owners with the electric button activated door open system ,, an electrical failure with this system can trap you inside your own car unless someone is fully aware of the emergency release location and how to use it. or is capable of breaking the window , you can not get out , make sure you and anyone who uses the car is fully educated on where the emergency door release is, and how to use it or is has a window breaking tool at hand , ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aSo_Kf4eT8A.html

I bought the NOCO power boost last year a week before a camping trip. It essentially does the same thing as the GOOLOO…hook up to the battery and you have sixty seconds to start the vehicle before the unit times out. I needed to use it that weekend because a friend’s car died, and used it another time at work when a coworker left his lights on. Either product I guarantee is worth the money! What everybody needs to keep in mind with these lithium boost/ jumper packs is lithium does not like extreme heat but is fairly tolerant of heat so you can probably get away with keeping it in your car in the summer. But if it's too cold out say 20° f outside and your boost pack has been sitting in your car overnight. It will be dead too and will not be willing to discharge so it will not actually jump. Start your vehicle and you can't just take the boost pack inside and hook it up. Two. Charge it up because it is extremely damaging to charge a lithium cell when the lithium cell is below. Freezing so you need to take it in your house. And let it sit around and warm up for an hour or so in a nice, warm house before you try using it again. You don't need to charge it most likely if you left it charge, you just need to warm it up. So the cells are actually capable of discharging. That is why you should bring it inside every night and then remember to grab it during the day before you leave the house to carry it with you in your car so that way it can be warm and when you do need it in the winter it will work if you've ever noticed people saying that the lithium boost packs are crap, you'll notice that it's all people who are from areas where it gets cold like where I live in Colorado and everyone is saying that they are trash in the winter because they leave them in the car and hint hint a lithium battery at 32° Fahrenheit is the equivalent of leaving your lead acid battery in negative 40°. It's almost impossible to get your car to start when it's negative. 40 out but the boost pack if it is below freezing really doesn't have much ability to discharge compared to if the boost pack was actually at a temperature of 50°.

Interesting cautionary note about jump starting little engines from a running vehicle. Given both have lead acid batteries I'm surprised the voltage of a running car is a problem. My first thought was the car is able to dump a lot of current into the little battery potentially damaging it but I'm surprised about the damage to other components. The high current will happen regardless of whether or not the engine is running but the higher voltage of a running car will increase the current into the little battery making damage more likely.
@AwosAtis
@AwosAtis Год назад
I was thinking the same thing. I suppose if you start the car while hooked up you could see voltage spikes in the electronics of the mower that aren't protected by the car's high voltage protection circuits.
@Thumper68
@Thumper68 Год назад
It won’t cause damage your going from battery to battery those lawn mower batteries are 12v just like car just less capacity there’s absolutely no reason it could ever hurt anything on the mower.
@tomschmidt381
@tomschmidt381 Год назад
@@Thumper68 I disagree. Batteries have a maximum charge current limitation. Assuming the small battery is heavily discharged it will see extremely high charging current when jumpered to a car. If the car engine is running the voltage will be higher causing even more current to flow.
@bertgrau3934
@bertgrau3934 Год назад
I think what the problem is, the alternator on a car will put out more amps, and voltage when you hit the starter on the mower, causing a spike in the cars charging system, that spike is what hurts the mowers electrical system.

I got relatively lucky. About 15 years ago on my first Riding Mower (Bolens) I jumped it with the Jeep engine running. Didn't kill the alternator, didn't kill the mower, but it did draw enough amperage to catch the fuse box in the Jeep on fire and burned out the ALT fuse section of the Fuse Box. I had to rig a solo 50A fuse mount and fuse separately from the wires that originally went to the fuse block that is now burned out. Basically what happened was that the 50A fuse never blew, but the 20A on the Bolens mower did blow. Live and learn...

Had a so called friend do this to my garden tractor, needless to say she is never allowed to borrow anything from me again, I haven’t heard from her in a while, no love lost. This did give me a reason to repower that tractor from the old opposed 18 horse Briggs to the Predator 22 horse v twin, wanted to put a tad more power for working in the garden with it.

Read the destructions on my goo look the boost button is on the side and very small and won’t start a really dead battery without pushing it. The big boost button on top is a huge improvement.

Lol, I didn't see the Gooloo part in the title. I just saw the GT3000 and GT4000 and thought we were going to talk about some good old Craftsman garden tractors! It was still an informative video though and now I know which jump starter I'll be getting next time I'm looking to buy one!Ii

Good advice, and I trust/like, and Respect this person . My only Caution is that you will be tempted By many lower cost options. Maybe You should, maybe not. An older, 7.3 diesel will take about the high End of electrical demand. Hard to Trust online specs. I have bought 3 (not gooloo). 1st one was good For my v6 escape, but not enough For my 5.7 hemi. Upgrade to one That worked and bought another For someone close. One of the Latter did somehow short out. Sorry for rambling, you can go Alot cheaper, but in the long run, Maybe this one is a good choice. Note to cold climate buyers, if It is 20 below f ,and it is in your Car "fully charged". ..ain't gonna Work.

Thanks for GOOLOO GT4000 tip. Mines on the way. I've been looking for one that really works since I bought the Viking from Harbor Freight what a joke. CW

Thanks for tip on Freedom GooLoo jumper. I got mine yesterday, charged it up to 100% using 110v Smart Phone wall charger (not include - fyi). Have not used it yet, but a great buy. Enjoy all your videos.

Thanks so much for that tip; I just received mine but didn't think to order the wall charger. My phone charger worked great! I love this channel and now do most of my own mower maintenance.

I believe you should hook your positive post first then the negative when hooking up and the reverse when removing them.

Bet you enjoyed that pool. I keep a Rugged Geek jumper in my truck. Works well. However, I will look into the GOOLOO for the shop.
