One of the most well rounded climbers in the US (Sorry Canadian tree gents, he's ours haha ) with one of the most insightful tree guys in the world haha. Truly excellent , Patrick ,hit so many points and got nostalgic about the early days . So much a tree guy in his thirties or older can relate to here.
I find it interesting to see another example of how finding a job that is not channeled by competitive time restraint gave him the latitude to experiment with creative rigging solutions. Extra rigging take time, and a private employer may not be so understanding to allow an employee to try new ideas for personal development.
Awesome podcast. I met Lawerence and Chad Brey at a Treestuff event a few years back right when I was starting SRT. I went to learn some tips about climbing - Chad came off beimg full of himself a d Lawerence was very approachable and helpful. Shortly after I bought the Schultz's SRT vids. His story summarizes how I felt starting out. It was hard to learn much about safety and efficiency RU-vid, Buzzboard, etc. Back then, the pushback was that safety and production dont play well together. I'm grateful to both of you still wanting to share your knowledge and push the envelope...we can be safe and productive.
When Lawrence talks about the lack of literature investigating rigging operations; is he aware of the UK Government's HSE report on rigging from 2008? It is a very indepth analysis and free to download as a PDF from the HSE website.
