Yes that was all very clear, and myself I learned 2 useful tricks. Now please... Do one on limbwalking!! both for horizontal and very long branches, thick canopy or sparse, and also covering limbwalking on nearly vertical limbs. Because your vids are super thorough, so we will get all the important stuff on this part of our job that is so crucial...
I am trying to get an antenna line up into a tree for amateur radio. The basics you taught and the equipment you show in this video really helped me. Thanks!
It's always neat to see how others set up their system. I use a throwing hook or handsaw scabbard for a handle. Keeping a stick makes a lot of sense, but wouldn't package as well for me. I'm using the Eclipse throwline storage, and the round shape is less stick friendly. I understand the frustration of finding a good handle. There's also a couple of neat stick tricks to isolate crotches.
More excellent content, just the other day I was informing a well seasoned climber ( 57 ) that the multiple dots he had in his old throw line should be stretched out and then why I showed him. He asked me if I ever do anything on RU-vid. I have a few videos. Then I explain to him he should watch your channel. 😉👍🏼. Joe from California
Thank you, just got my first throw line and bag and this helps. Another idea if you don't have 180' to staighten a line wrap it around some and pull both ends. Most folks have 90' somewhere 🤪
Gonna have to get some true throwline. I still dont trust myself enough so I'm using the braided nylon stringline from home depot. If I get it stuck in a tree I can still pop it and I'm not out much money since its only around 9$ for 250ft. Plus it doesnt have the memory of the tenex string but I have been thinking about making the jump the better I get at throwing my weight
Very good info. I'm not a tree climbing expert like you folks. My interest is getting lines up in trees to pull up wire Ham radio antennas, some as long as 260' between trees. Using a conventional sling shot, rod & reel ect is OK for low limbs but chancy at best getting higher up. I learned a lot from your well done video and now I have solutions to get my lines up higher. THANKS The one thing I am curious about is do you get tangles in your throw-line bags. I am sure it's important to keep twigs, grass and weeds out but most of what I have here in South Carolina are tall pine trees. I wonder if rosin getting on your line is a problem. Also, do you use something like talcum powder on your line to help prevent the line from sticking to itself? Any comments appreciated ! Again, Thanks !!
Hey Patrick , I have a special stick too haha. Yours looks a little bigger , but personally, I don't think it matters much . One's just as good as another . However , I have put reflective tape on the tip and base of mine to help keep me from losing it … Thx for the video , brother , always appreciate seeing another treeman's system .
New Husky cubes seem very well made. Can't really do anything about the rods poking through the corners, they are sealed inside the seam. The cheap cubes just don't last... - Patrick
Patrick thanks. Did you ever try the 100ft chalk line reel the big one? Was thinking of setting up one. I have a small one to use in tree like Richards. But wondered if you use big chalk box. 10oz. Is perfect for me too. 12 oz works ok
with the loop in the end of the line, you cant undo it from the ground, if it get snugged in a V shape point, if you use a lot of force you will cut the line, if you use special hitch, when you use a lot of force in pules , the ball will get free and fall to the ground ,and it will be easy to pull line back to you for another try, tnx for professional video
When de stressing the towline from the spool, I use three fishermen’s swivels tied to the end, fixed to a short length used to attach it to the fixed point. Once the line is fully extended and you apply tension, any twist in the cord will unwind.
A tree in the background lined up with his camera during that side profile shot toward the beginning. Made it look like he was balancing a silky on his hand
Ha ha. Most topical upload ever since I just lost 2 throw balls in a black locust last week, and the new kit is on the way. 🤦🏻♂️ That tree refused to be climbed. I’m so glad your snow is finally gone.
Don’t know how you use 10oz. We use 12oz and that thing gets stuck all the time. Elm tree the other day the ball didn’t want to come down and ends up getting stuck trying to get it to slide off the bark. Definitely getting a 14 or 16oz
Does your beard ever fill out? Or does it stay sparse and homeless looking? Love the channel bro, stop hiding up there in Canada, get down here to some Festivals or Comps.
