Wow. This is really happening? This slide has been around for many decades and the riders knew what they were getting into. It’s no surprise that injury may occur.
As a teenager, in the late 70’s & early 80’s I rode the Giant Slide @ Belle Isle. & I am almost certain, that there was the Yellow silicone coating that was placed over the metal. The giant slide was closed for many yrs so the quality of the slide more than likely changed. 🙏🏽 for those Babies who were injured.
It was just painted , I remember that metal. I had fellowship with that yellow metal on numerous occasions but never did my parents entertain a lawsuit
I'm kinda puzzled but I'm also laughing inside because I grew up on that slide. We used to stand up and go down , some guys would even try to stand on their hands. We would fall then get up (now check this out) and try to run back up the slide itself to the top (wouldn't use the stairs). That's just the times I was reared up in. We had less and did so much more and most definitely rougher and tougher.
Hey it is totally different than sitting in their dark bedroom staring at Tik-Tok on their phones, try to go for a walk with your kids get halfway around the block and they're crying that they want to go home, I'm the old person I should be the one wanting to go home😅
I grew up on that slide. Had many scoffed AF1's (yellow stained)... This generation is just ficking soft... All the just to still let your child ride it then complain about it... SMMFH The gentrification of detroit is in full effect..
Mom at 2:06 was awesome by the time they got to the bottom of the slide she had her sons head in her hands lifted up so he wouldn't hit his head. I don't know how she managed to do that while spinning and almost airborne. Moms are superheros! Kudos to that mom for her fast thinking.
Facts, back in the day they rugs and bags. We used to stand up on the rugs and for down , sit backwards and go down. Once again we ran back up the slide itself (didn't use the stairs) Lolololololo it was definitely a different time.
Parents are at fault. They see it before even getting on, they have signs with proper warnings annnnd the fact that its been on national news says it all! GTFOH 😂
Well the ages of some kids is also something I'd question But I think football is a risk parents know is possible. With this slide it seems injury is inevitable.
Pathetic everybody watched what happened then chose to still ride it, and now they're going to try to sew, and there is a big sign, heaven, forbid they read it.
That lawsuit is stupid! It's the parents' responsibility. Don't ride slides if you didn't think it wasn't safe. My goodness. That slide looks like it's metal. I would not let my child on that. I blame the parents.
I read a comment that in the 70’s they used to use soakers to make the slide wet to make the ride slower and there was 20 employees back then to really soak it. I don’t understand why these days there’s no safety.
As a parent, YOU are the first protection for YOUR child. Why would you allow your child to get on something like that -- who is responsible for making the WISE decisions? You can and should say NO to your child, at times.
Exactly why people call people stupid! And if you're smart you stay away from most people. Pure stupidity suing a slide! Good on the state for closing it!
I usually say “ of course a lawsuit “ but, wow! Look and listen at how hard they’re hitting it. I’m looking at it and it’s hurting me. In a time. You don’t know what to do. I hurt my head at my job. Started having bad migraines! Wanted to file. Was too dam late. I didn’t think of it at the time and my boss was right there trying to make sure that I did not file. I was younger then. I suffer migraines every day now.
Imo if injuries are a regular occurrence it would seem logical to either make the slide safer or shut it down completely. One lil boy ( it appears ) in video looked too little for such a slide. That part is partly the parents fault. He looked 2-3 yrs old ! But the speed and the bumps enabling kids to become air born is a disaster waiting to happen. Seems risky to ride it.
Case lost, didn't even go to doc or hospital. They were all laughing at their injuries at the time and saying you ain't from D unless you've been injured on this slide.
First of all....why is everyone in sacs going down? They should be in some sort of a tube with cushion. Being in a sac is going to hurt. The sacs need to go!
Traumatic injury to kid $25k lawsuit ..damn if I got $25k every time I got a bump, bruise, scrape as a kid I would have retired before the age of 18. Stop y'all
Lame I mean come on the slide is really freaking fun and then people like this because you want to bring your children with no helmets to wear down the slide want aa law suit .. bunch of idiots. I wish this slide would remain open
THIS IS SO FUNNY TO ME BECAUSE WHEN I WROTE THE GIANT SLIDE AS A KID WE KNEW HOW TO HOLD ON TO THE POTATO SO IT WILL NOT IF YOUR CHILD IS UNDER 11 THEY SHOULDN'T BE ON THERE NO WAY SO TO ME THAT PARENT WAS CHILD NEGLECTING
The city is not going to get sued that is a star park now Detroit lost the park years ago she is going to have to sue the state and they are probably going to give her the run around and who hopes for a city to down bankrupt hundreds of thousands or hood people live here people like you should go li e in a bubble away from the normal population
City of Detroit need to remove the slide the slide needs to be taken down and should be illegal to ride it. This ride NEVER been safe and why is it in our community. Of course you guys don’t care the city of Detroit don’t care like most things
