The Supreme Court on Wednesday ruled that Section 125 Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) applied to all married women including Muslim married women and they can claim maintenance from their husbands under these provisions. Senior Advocate of Supreme Court Karuna Nundy spoke to media and explained the nitty-gritties of this ruling. Reacting to Supreme Court's observation that Muslim women can seek maintenance from their husband u/s 125 of CrPC Senior Advocate S Wasim A Qadri appearing for the husband in the matter called it a landmark judgement and said it is for the upliftment of the woman.
