I agree. It's some sort of enviro elitist point of view I'm guessing. He has no idea how many people are on the bus.... but it's still a "waste of space". I thought John was more sensible to be a ding dong like that.
Nah I think he's the type of person to view busses as taking away space for cars. He's probably looking forward to the APM so the horseshoe will be private cars only@@colbyjack7074
@chase7417 Geez, one unthoughtful spontaneous comment and you unsub? What a black and white world you live in. No room for mistakes or accidents, etc. I guess you're perfect, too. Must be nice.
Not officially true. The LAWA website still says it will open in 2024. That April 2025 date comes from a Fitch rating service report that speculated the project will be delayed, and that the news media picked up.
@@mrxman581 I’d put money on it not even opening by April ‘25. It was supposed to open the end of ‘23, then early ‘24. They’re going to keep pushing it back. I’ll be surprised if it’s functional by the 2028 Olympics.
As long as the overnight parking near the people mover station is affordable I may start driving myself to the airport. I’ll avoid entering the terminals by car like the plague
Haven't tried the SFO People Mover yet, but I'm definitely looking forward to LAX's version of the People Mover! I also heard that SAN is also gonna get a People Mover for the new Terminal 1 they're building, so we'll see how the progress goes for those two projects.
Wow, great video. So much walking involved in using this system and airport. A real problem for people with mobility issues, low energy problems, the elderly. I'm glad to learn the metro station and people mover will open together.
Las time I flew into LAX from here in Fresno was 2020 and the construction was nowhere near finished. Can't wait to fly down once everything is done. Too bad the rest of the city is going down the drain
One more year to go and you're all set to grand opening soon until April 2025 to LAX People Mover Train to airport terminals at Los Angeles International Airport.
Really hoping they charge a fee for entering the horseshoe by car once the people mover starts. Otherwise, it will become super crowded again. Just like after the widening of the 405, it was nice for about a month then became more packed than ever before.
Concourse 0 can't start until the people mover is finished, because it sits on what is LAXit right now, and Terminal 9 can't start until the Midfield Satellite Concourse is completed.
This project is so important. Having to drive to the airport for a city the size of Los Angeles is a shame. It's like most of the U.S. is set up like a rural village. Cars, cars, cars everywhere and usually it is the only way. Glad LAX is finally stepping up their game. LAX sucks right now except for Tom Bradley International Terminal.
Update: the LAX/Metro Transit Center station is now projected to open in 2024. I'm having trouble revisiting the places where I read this; updates happen in Metro newsletters, but that information is not always updated on their relevant web pages. But as I understand it, Metro will start running trains through there BEFORE the separate People Mover project into the airport is complete. After this happens, I would expect the LAX shuttle buses will no longer go to Aviation Station on the C line, but will temporarily go to the new transit center instead, until the People Mover opens. It could also be that LAX shuttles would run to the Century station instead, but I don't know if there's bus infrastructure (loading zones/ bus stops) at that station. So I don't think they will use the Century station for that.
@@JEK Well that's unfortuante. Recently, I heard that LAX needs the APM and the Midfield Satelite Concourse (South) to be open by next year so then the construction of both Terminal 9 & Concourse 0 could start.
They are still so far away from finishing. One more year. That’s what we said last year. I’m surprised the stations are still not finished. This further delays the Metro station and the new rental car facility.
I doubt the hotel shuttles or Airport commuter buses will stop entering the horseshoe. What will help the traffic is force private cars to drop off and pickup passengers near the car rental facility and then take the skylink train. Only public transportation buses allowed in the horseshoe
To defend John's statement about the bus taking up space, I'm sure he was just referring to the amount of actual physical space it takes up on the road, and not about its efficiency to transport passengers compared to personal vehicles. The good thing is that neither personal vehicles nor buses should be using the horseshoe once the APM is operational.
Thanks. Not anti-bus, just making an observation; part of the problem with traffic in the horseshoe. The hard part once the APM is in use, will be keeping people out of the loop and utilizing pick ups and drop offs at the ITF stations. But in theory, it should be way faster riding the APM (which claims is 10 min. in total-Conrac to Bradley)
@@JEK a bus with 50 people on it takes up "3 car lengths" seems like a very efficient use of space if you ask me. Pretty pathetic that you look past the tens of thousands of cars that drive thru the horseshoe everyday but find time to talk shit on the Flyaway bus.
They've been quite tight-lipped recently on construction news. Previously they published quite often on their news site. However, the last construction-related news release was back in January, and no news at all in February and only three releases this month of which none have to do with construction.
They're making good progress again. I checked the LAWA website about 2 weeks ago, and it still says the APM will open this year. I really like the idea of covering the old parking structures with those vertical louvers. It's a relatively simple cosmetic change that can go a long way to make LAX more stylish by complimenting what they've already done at the new Conrac structure. That truncated pedestrian bridge for the future Concourse 0 looks weird, but it's good they're doing it now. Have you heard any information on when they plan to start construction of it? How about Terminal 9? Anything going on over there? That's for another informative update.
@@JEK Not likely. LAWA has not approved the financing plan for T0. Southwest is working on it. As for T9, last word was LAWA was going to hold a design competition and then pursue financing and a contractor. It is NOT likely any or all of that will happen before 2026. ... The APM has been delayed by a disagreement with the contractor. LAWA has been keeping this development to itself. But in a prospectus for a bond offering, one of the ratings agencies reported that the APM will not begin operating this year because of the conflict.
Based on the last report, only "elements" will be completed by 2028. I'm guessing maybe 2030 when we will see it completed along with additional APM stations.
