Hi Terry. I hope you had a merry Christmas and a happy new year! Surely you've been busy with family and holiday stuff. But I will be patiently waiting for the release of your next instructional video. I hope that you experienced an increase in soap sales due to the Christmas season. I just rewatched this video for inspiration. I enjoy watching you use your palette and palette knife to mix your micas above seeing you mix colors in the plastic bags. It's more "chic" when you bring your art skills and implements to bear. I had so much fun giving away my homemade soap as Christmas gifts to my neighbors and relatives! I actually got some positive feedback and requests for more soap! Up till now I've been using 2lb soap molds, but it looks like I'm going to have to acquire a larger mold. What new ideas do you have planned for 2020? Will you make larger batch sizes? Do you have any new designs planned? Will you increase production? Other than goats milk, will you incorporate any other organic ingredients into your soap recipes? Making soap is the most fun I've ever had learning something new! I hope your sales increase exponentially in 2020! God bless you, Victor PS: I have not yet used the three bars of soap I purchased from you in November, nor do I plan to use them. They are still in their original boxes on a shelf in my linen closet. To me they are works of art. I just cannot bring myself to showering with them.

I just discovered your videos and I'm binge-watching. Using the palette to mix colours is a better way, because you're not using plastic bags that you throw away after one use. I know, I definitely prefer the palette knife. 👍 I am not a natural speaker at all, so this is a little out of my comfort zone, but I want to teach. I offer what I can; I know I do it a little different than most. I am a perfectionist, so believe me, I am my own worst critic and know there's lots of room for improvement. Thank so much for your genuine comment and your kind words. 😊

I just found your channel and have really been enjoying it. I appreciate your tips and 'things I learned' - it is very helpful. Is there a reason you don't add your titanium dioxide and kaolin clay to the whole batch before splitting into thirds? And maybe the fragrance if you know it doesn't accelerate? Feels like it would save steps. Beautiful soap!
@TreeMarieSoapworks
@TreeMarieSoapworks 4 года назад
Thank you, Donna! I do sometimes add my fragrance to my oils, in this case, I was worried about acceleration. I used different amounts of TD, so I added it later. The Kaolin Clay likes to settle on the bottom, I wanted equally amounts, so I added it separately. I don't do it the same every time. Just find what works for you and run with it. 😊💕
@thardister2
@thardister2 4 года назад
Teri, thank you very much for your great videos. I am getting much more confident that I can do this. I have a question - I noticed you split your lye and oils into the number of layers you will be making and then mix the soap batter before each layer. That would solve most of the problems I have had trying to make layers. Do you try to keep the oils and lye warm while you are waiting to mix the next layer? Or possibly reheat them? Thanks so much, Tresa Marie (called Tree in high school many years ago)
@TreeMarieSoapworks
@TreeMarieSoapworks 4 года назад
I usually just cover them, but I don't bother to reheat them unless it has taken a long time for the previous layer to set up. I use a fragrance oil that accelerates a bit when I make layer soaps. That way, by the time I pour the first layer and mix up the next, the first layer is set and ready to receive the next layer.
@Marie-4Him
@Marie-4Him 4 года назад
Thank you for another great video. I notice you add kaolin clay to all your recipes and wonder if you do that simply for the skin benefits or if there are other reasons that you are a fan. Does it accelerate trace?
@TreeMarieSoapworks
@TreeMarieSoapworks 4 года назад
I only use kaolin clay in the layered soaps, so they set up a little faster, so yes, it causes acceleration. Happy Thanksgiving, Marie! 🍂😊💕

Can I use something else, more natural, to replace titanium..? Thank You :-)
@TreeMarieSoapworks
@TreeMarieSoapworks 4 года назад
I have hear of using zinc oxide, but I still haven't tried it.
@rayneb2595
@rayneb2595 4 года назад
It's titanium dioxide, not titanium. It has the word in it only because titanium particles are in the chemical makeup. It's like calling water (hydrogen dioxide) hydrogen, it's not the same thing at all and it's a totally different and safer chemical compound. Titanium dioxide is so safe it can be put into food, but of course it has to be food grade TD to do that.

Love you videos! I want to ask you or any soapers that want to pitch in 😊.. when I do mica lines on my cp soap, it ends up separating 😢 I've tried using less water or even sprayed with alcohol but still.. I just can't seem to get a nice thick line.
@TreeMarieSoapworks
@TreeMarieSoapworks 5 лет назад
The only thing I can think of is that your mica line is too thick? Do you blow off the excess? How long do you wait between layers? I don't ever use alcohol. Have you tried a powder sprayer? I use it in my other layer video. These work great with really fine mica/activated charcoal. Good luck. Hope you can figure it out. 💖✨

@misunsim8314
@misunsim8314 3 года назад
You added clay to each batter. Is there any particular reason? Clays tend to make soap batter thicken up quickly. That's why you added clay? By the way your videos are really helpful. 😍

@rosemoon3190 3 года назад
How much water do you use per amount of clay to make the pre-hydrated kaolin clay? Different for any other clays?
@TreeMarieSoapworks
@TreeMarieSoapworks 3 года назад
It's not a set amount. I hydrate it just enough to wet it, so it's not gloppy. (Keep in mind that your water amount doesn't affect the lye calculations. That amount only uses the oils/butter to calculate the lye amount.) Note that I use 25% water as a percent of oil weight to figure the water. Adding a little extra water won't matter because the water has already been discounted.

@TreeMarieSoapworks
@TreeMarieSoapworks 4 года назад
I use it in layer soap to help the layers set up, but it is wonderful in soap. In cured soap it helps with lather. I don't add it in the beginning, because it is a little heavy. It sinks to the bottom, so it is hard to divide it evenly. I do hope to make some simpler videos. Stay tuned, Keren. 💖

@TreeMarieSoapworks

Thank you, Rachael. No problem, I don't use this way anymore. I use the palette knife and Plexiglas to mix my colors now. Mixing in cups doesn't work for the tricky colorants like oxides, ultramarines, and neons. They tend to clump and cause specks. It is fine for micas thorough.

Love your videos and how beautiful your soaps are, but please, please do not encourage the use of plastic bags. The Oceanic Society says that by 2050 there will be more plastic in the oceans than fish.

Thank you! How does the plastic get in the ocean? Is it just people being irresponsible, or is it dumped there by companies? When I lived in Okinawa, my family would go to the beach with trash bags and pick up loads of bottles and things like that, but it wasn't things like ziplock bags.
