This is fascinating, Barbara! Cant wait to see how they turn out. I had trouble with clips making indents too. So I bought a couple of bricks, covered them in stick-on vinyl. They turned out to be a great crafting tool!

Love these gorgeous bags you have collected. They make such a beautiful noises to my ears. It always looks easy till you start a project .Then not so easy. Thank you for sharing the process and decision making of what you like or didn’t like. You will find a way to patch up that tear on the bag. So far I love the beginning of your journal. Beautiful. I did love the bags you hand painted in acrylics. Love the colors. Can’t wait to see what’s next for this journal.

Kann es kaum erwarten du Liebe, was für ein Weg bis dahin 🤗 aber es ist echt gut ab und zu mal seine Komfortzone zu verlassen. Ich bin ganz fasziniert von dieser Technik und werde ab sofort Papiertaschen sammeln, ich hab nur diese störrischen bisher 😬 aber das kann sich ja noch ändern 😂

I am interested in what is going to happen. I can see that if one is worried about it becoming too gator-mouth, you could insert strips between the bags when you are gluing so that they work as spacers between they (bag) pages ….. hmmm ….

Barbara, welcome to my world of making journals - mistakes and frustrations, but ultimately a product that I like. My friend is an art teacher and she teaches her students that mistakes are "Beautiful Oops" from the book by that name (Beautiful Oops by Barney Saltzbert. Refreshing to see you overcoming the sort of obstacles I encounter when making my journals. So much inspiration. I did not have a huge array of paper bags but made some using a tutorial from Carol Tinson. An added benefit of watching all the Dephemerember videos ,making my own stuff instead of buying more.

Love all the coloured papers, especially loved the painted pieces you created 💕 felt you overthought things a bit but it'll turn out lovely 😊 did wonder as thin bags if you could have just machine stitched down the centre to attach? Also if having eyelets can you not bind your stick on the side with them?? Can't wait to see the end result 💕

So many thoughts running through my head. Number 1…. I loved hearing all of the bags crinkling as you were looking through them. When you glued them down, I never would have made the connection not to glue all the way down and stop other bass from opening. When you said it has been a week since you finger painted (procrastination), I loved the way they looked. But I have been procrastinating working on my Journal I’m making from my grandsons shirts. I finished making all the Rope bowls for Christmas. I kept the one that looked really bad for myself. So instead of getting to work on my Journal, I made myself an oval basket. It’s bigger and I loved it. So the I decided to make some Fabric Roses (thank you Tracy Fox). I’m using a gray shirt and a green shirt so I made a few of each color. I won’t be putting them all on the cover. But I enjoyed that. Well, I love this Journal. I’m going to go watch Rondas video now too. I’m sorry my comments are so long. I just feel like I have so much to tell you! Lol♥️♥️♥️

Liebe Barbara, danke, dass Du uns an diesem Prozess teilhaben lassen hast, mit all seinen kleinen Pannen und Momenten, in denen Du mit einigen Schritten unzufriedenen warst oder nicht weiter wusstest. Das ist sehr authentisch und sympathisch und gibt Mut, weil es uns allen manchmal auch so geht und man anfängt ein bisschen an sich zu zweifeln. Aber zu sehen, dass erfahrene Künstler diese Momente auch haben, beruhigt mich. Und wie Du sagst, selbst wenn es am Ende nicht zu einem Ergebnis führen sollte, was absolut zufrieden stellend ist, dann war der Weg das Ziel und man hat etwas daraus gelernt. Ich freue mich schon auf die Fortsetzung davon und wünsche Dir einen schönen Übergang für 2022 und freue ich auf ein weiteres tolles kreatives Jahr mit Dir. Alles Liebe, Doreen

I like your painted bags with the collage. I think if you distressed around the outside edge of the painted bags they would connect more with tones in the collage. I love the bright colours and the Pacifica style. I am from Aotearoa, New Zealand and we tend to like tropical colours. Your bags are gorgeous. We dont have that glorious colours and design in our paper bags. You could add your stick once you finished the journal. Just make sure the writing spots can be taken out of the journal or are in places away from your lovely stick.❤😊❤

I really like this bag journal idea. I like the use of paint. You could make a totally separate journal with those bags you painted. I think I will try it and use my gel plate to add color and texture. I was surprised about the binding. I didn't think I would like it, but it looks good. I love gator mouth squishy journals. When I see one I want to hold it and squish it together and listen to all the papers and see what is in it. :D I'm looking forward to part two.

Barbara, I'm glad you showed every aspect of how you began the process of this journal and how it came together. I just love the sound & look of all these beautiful bags. Unfortunately, in the States most everything is plastic, unless you go to an unusual boutique or gift shop. I would definitely consider making one of these. Maybe I'll just shop in some fancy shops just for the bags. I look forward to seeing you through this journal and can't wait to see it's outcome. Such nice bags and what is it about the sound of them that we like so much! Its looking good so far. I get many brain blocks on some of the projects I do as well. Sometimes things come to you like crazy then you sit down to actually do it and somehow in the process its not going the way you wanted it to go. You are a gifted artist so I know this will come out beautifully in the end. Never give up....

I would cut the green bag off in the back and glue a strip of the paper on the inside to repair the tear. You are very brave to tackle this journal! I know its going to look great when you finish it. You looked like you were in your element when you were painting!!!!!!

If you are going to trim the bags to open the closed end, you could always trim them enough that they won't line up with the bag next to them, or rip them...

LOL since both ends of the bags lining up were "cut off to make pocket" possibilities I'd just have cut one deeper than the other.xoxo I also am nowhere near as experienced as you, so I'd always presume I was just taking the lazy way out. :P

I am really loving watching you create this paper bag journal!! As I am doing some slow stitching, I have learnt more about the process of making a paper journal than I ever have in so many journal making videos. What inspiring ideas, the most fabulous mistakes, that turns magically into something you like!! I am loving the companionship of a familiar‘don’t think I like it’ along with ‘not sure what to do with it/fix it’ . It’s the first day of this new year and I’m completely inspired rather than a little overwhelmed. So thank you thank you for this, and for your company while I stitch…..pondering about all the paper bags I have gathered.

I think you should keep the stick in mind for your journal after it is completed. Then you might find that you can add it to the edge of the spine and you won’t need to worry if you can fold it open flatly.
