I'm 52 & have been listening to Layne since before they went mainstream & his voice still gives me the chills today. I cant listen to 'nutshell' on unplugged without tearing up. R.I.P Layne. ❤
Good Lord. There was and is no one who can touch Layne and his vocals. The power that radiates even through recordings .... seeing him live must have just been shockwaves. Still cry listening to his voice.
bro the moore is like the mecca of grunge imo, think of the people that have been through that place, tragic that it's not the same as it was back then
Damn Layne took it up a notch on that last scream in the man in box chorus. Man this guys is legend. It's hard to find another guy who can sing like this.
its crazy how his singing by far surpasses Cantrell s playing. the vocals really give the music the feel and power it needed. great band. .there will never be another Alice in Chains which is depressing...
Nah Cantrell's playing makes the band more than Layne's voice. Cantell isn't just a guitar player either. He's also always been the primary songwriter and lyric writer as well as his contribution to the vocals.
thats all true, but those early albums Facelift. Dirt and 3 legged dog, would not have been half as good with a different vocalist. Lane brought a power and energy to the table that really is unmatched in todays music, I used to be in a AIC cover band playing all Cantrels leads/riffs, without a good vocalist, musically the songs were boring. our vocalist was good but he wasnt Lane didnt have the presence, I dont believe Alice in Chains would have been successful without him in the beginning,
@@kylestag4368 I think you're just downplaying how great of a guitar player Jerry Cantrell is and I don't think his playing is boring at all. It's incredibly tasteful. He doesn't waste a note, his solos service the songs, his tone is magnificent, a brilliant rhythm player and he's as great of a riff lord as Tony Iommi imo. I do agree about how phenomenal of a vocalist Layne is. AIC wouldn't be where they were in the 90s without Layne, but they wouldn't be where they were without Jerry either. Jerry gives them a distinct sound. Layne is my #2 of all time behind Chris Cornell, but if Jerry had passed away instead of Layne, Alice In Chains would have ended altogether. There can be an AIC without Layne (not as great obviously), but there could never be AIC without Jerry.
This is awfully sad when you see how he was proper into it before the heroin . Hitting those notes and enjoying himself with flesh on him . Then turned into a tiny stick trying to prop himself up with a microphone stand can’t be bothered to sing at all
Anybody heard that Ken Criswell guy singing Alice in chains songs? I was absolutely blown away when I heard his voice. He's better then the guy they have now and he's pretty awesome. Think they said he was a singer in a metal band in Kentucky but not positive. RIP LAYNE you are missed brother.
I came here for this. I am trying to find out where to find the full video this came from.. That little reach he does during that is the first time I've ever heard him do that and it is amazing
Layne Staley was a Leo on the last day of being one (August 22nd). That explains a lot of it and his remarkable talent and very powerful singing voice. Another Leo (August 13th)....I recognized the power right away when I first him and AIC in 1990.
