I just got my exotic gem drilled. My PAP is 4 13/16 and up 9/16. I bowl high rev with a bowl speed is averaging 17 to 19mph. I stand more left and cross to right. He drilled 20x4 1/4x55. Does that sound about right? With that layout what should the ball do in your opinion

With that layout based on your style, the exotic should read and hook early while providing good shape downlane. For you and your arsenal, this should be a stronger layout for you and I would not go any stronger on other equipment.

@bowlersvault Great video explaining the dual angles, typical tweener here Norm Duke style, just about to drill a purple hammer pearl, do you think i will ruin it if i do kind of an axis layout with the pin 1½ inch from my PAP if my intention is to play the twig? or would i be better of just doing a 4 inch pin and increase the VAL angle to like 60 degrees for a more controlled and smoother backend?

@@henkeman300 in my professional opinion, your safest route will be doing a 4 inch pin and increasing the VAL angle to get a more controllable roll off the end of the pattern. I think it will do you a lot more justice especially on a variety of conditions instead of the 1 1/2 inch pin. Also to add (this is just extra info) and feel free to not use this info if you so choose to, because you’re a tweener like myself, typically you will here most people say this, but people with urethanes today generally go as strong as they can and make it try to respond to friction as much as it can. This is why I have always gone anywhere from 3 3/4 to 4 inch pin and a 20-30 degree VAL. We do this because we can always smooth out the surface of the ball to give us our desired reaction if need be. I can’t think of many people with large VAL angles on urethane equipment unless it’s going to be the 2nd or 3rd urethane they have in the bag for later in the day. However, do what you think is best for your game! That’s how we learn and find out what works best for us as players!

@@bowlersvault thank you very much for the input, already abandoned the axis layout and will follow your advice and make it a 4 inch pin-pap with a 45-55 degree val ❤️

Can you also show how the ball react on the lane after drilling your layout. It would be easier to understand how a ball roll when you do a specific layout.

I understand where you are coming from, however I do not see the value in showing what it looks like after creating a layout video. Everyone throws it differently, factors of the house/lanes, etc. If it were to be a comparison video, then absolutely whether that be a comparison between bowling balls or layouts. Having me throw a ball after I drill it up during a layout video wouldn’t do any justice. Sure, it will give you a decent look, but not to the entirety that it needs to be to fully push the concept. If you wish to see how a ball rolls after a layout, I recommend watching Storm’s Pin Buffer video series. There are three parts to the series, and each video explains how different pin-to-paps, psa-to-paps (in this case because it’s a dual angle video it would be called the Drilling Angle), and pin buffers (in this case it would be the VAL angle because of Dual Angle) look with three different drilling patterns.

Athery's chart is a useful tool for determining ballpark values for a given set of bowler metrics in the dual angle layout system. In a very real sense, this chart is the foundation of the system. This basically allows you to easily and consistently calculate the median or "benchmark" layout for a given bowler style, on a typical house shot. All other layouts originate from this initial calculation. Note: on symms, the distance from the center of thumbhole to the PIN is a significant variable. 6.75" is minimum RG and max diff. All other values increase the RG of the X-axis and consequently reduce total diff.

good to use for people getting their feet wet into experimentation of layouts! Definitely would recommend for beginner and intermediate bowlers!

Hi. Is there an advantage in drilling using the dual angle or standard drilling?
@bowlersvault
@bowlersvault 11 месяцев назад
Hi Martez, I am not too sure what you mean by standard drilling. Feel free to expand on that. I am assuming you mean putting the pin above the bridge or pushing the pin to the right of the ring finger (for right handed players). Basically your two “standard” layouts. There is a huge advantage using dual angle. You can fine tune the ball 10x more for players or yourself. I would recommend using some type of layout system in order to drill the ball the way you want the motion to look. Again, it’s more of a fine tuner.

@@bowlersvault I have another question. So depending on your specs as in tilt, rotation, rev, speed, one layout numbers will be different than another's as in I have 20°tilt and lower rotation I am more flat handed say someone with low tilt and high rotation would use a different layout or would work best for them and may not for me. So my question is, I'm sure im making it more confusing... what type of layout should I be using.??? Of I'm making sense. Another thing bowling balls as in. High rg balls for me I noticed go straight, go long for ever. So I personally should stay away from them and go for mkre of a lower to med rg?
@bowlersvault
@bowlersvault Месяц назад
@@StephRenee812 With your tilt being on the higher side, I would normally stick with lower RG bowling balls. Its always good to have 1 or 2 high RG balls, but you will most likely find more success with lower RG balls. If you ever find some of your bowling balls going to long as well, I would recommend changing the surface to something lower grit for more traction
