Memories of the old film “The Plank” similar theme - few words but plenty of mumbles. However, jesting apart, where you tread Charlie, the rest will follow. You impart so much knowledge in twenty minutes that a manual could never describe, Thank you for the inspiration. Peter

Charlie, Full knowing you & I are well beyond the age of wee ones tugging at the flat screen here's a quick tip for those who don't share our luxury. Once you have detected the location on your wall where you desire the wall mounts to be a fixed, cut open the wall. Cut a piece of lumber long enough to be snug within the wall studs. Slightly wider than the whole you cut. Glue and screw the board in place. Tight to the backside of the dry wall. You now have a secure backer board that no matter the location of the mounting screws or their length the hardware will have a solid structure to bite into. On the same note, I hope you consider a few triangular wooden gussets, attached to the wall, centered above the flat screen. Then you can re-attach the CHADWICK RAILWAY sign, tilted downward, above the wide screen. Jim in N.Y.

Well done Charlie, anything to avoid buying new glasses! But I must say, having a large screen TV for iTrain has really helped me. Just like you, I used our old TV to Mount in my model railway room. While my TV is also a Sony, it’s much older than yours (if yours is not so smart, then mine’s positively brain dead 😂), but it does the job really nicely. While I was watching you guys, algebra came to mind, whereby: If Charlie = C and; Richard = R then; R = 2C Ok, I’ll get my coat……. Have a great weekend !

Hi Charlie, new subscriber here. Love the TV, you could ditch the hdmi cable and use a Microsoft display adapter. They are bulletproof and allow you to use your TV in either clone or extend by simply using Windows key and K to connect. You can then move your laptop anywhere in the room. If your control software supports it, you can control the trains from the laptop, but have the layout showing on the TV. Basically dual screen mode. Fantastic content.

Very well done video as always, as an AV technician, who installs monitors all the time those mounts are actually pretty strong, generally the weakest link is the attachment to the wall. The next thing you need to do is swap out your laptop for a little mini PC. I've bought a couple of them recently for work for about $100 US.. Used with a Bluetooth, keyboard and mouse. It's quite a wonderful thing and something you may want to think about in the future.

@@ChadwickModelRailway Yea. I know, it is the same all over Europe. In France they have a new law that requires home owner to upgrade the walls, and windows for energy efficiency if people need to sell or rent their place. I have no ideas how they can do it in an inexpensive way. I am a carpenter by trade, and was a general contractor in California. This law is going to create a major housing shortage in France in the coming years. I'm glade to live in California. A side point to live in America, is the diversity of railroad available for model-railroad, beside time periods. My name actually is Chris.

He's a DIY tip for you Charlie. When unscrewing anything already fixed up on the wall it's easy to drop it. Solution: Firstly secure it so it doesn't fall down after removing the last screw. I'd recommend drilling a small hole through what ever you're removing and firmly screw to the wall, therefore stopping it from falling down when you remove the original fixings.............! Interesting video, Charlie. Really enjoyed it. Do please keep uploading as I’m in a predicament myself currently, this morning about 11am Adelaide, South Australia time, I passed out and fell down the staircase in my home. I have broken my toe considerably where its twisted and a large fracture has ensured, yay for me lol 😆. Didn’t really need this at the moment. So, I’ll be watching your content and others for the next six to twelve weeks, missing out on everything from volunteering on the preserved railway I’m apart of in SA to helping out my local model engineers club to my British Railway Modeller meetings, doing the gardening at home, working on my garden line, being unable to play with my model railway upstairs to missing out on a major model train event in June as well. I’m not very happy at all, in fact, I’m devastated. Going to an orthopaedic surgeon this week coming to see if they can straighten it out using a local anesthesia or worse case scenario, they’ll have to operate and install a screw to heal the injury which will sideline me until probably next year. If that does happen, the recovery will go from six to twelve weeks to an unspeakable amount of time into the new year. I’m not looking forward to that. I’m surprised you guys couldn’t hear me cursing across the pond literally. God it hurt when I came to again. I knew straight away I had broken something. Still it could’ve been a lot worse, could’ve had head injuries or worse. I think I got off pretty lightly to say the least. When I saw you jumping off your layout and I cringed in fear haha 😂. I said to myself it’s going to be a long while before I can do that again haha 😆. I’m trying to see the funny side of things. I’m known to take the piss out of myself to get by. I couldn’t stop laughing when they told me I had fractured it lol 😆. I was like, am I in a dream lol 😆, I must be, surely I must be!? It’s the cruel irony of life by far. But that’s life, like it or loathe it. Anyhoo, take care Charlie. Keep well too! Regards, Caleb

We picked up our first TV that HAD to be mounted to the way sometime during the pandemic. I wasn't totally sure about mounting it myself but it was pretty similar to this and we're happy with it! Our bracket and equipment doesn't pull away from the wall though. It DOES have those cords that dangle though, unless we hook them somewhere. I really enjoy the humor in this, the passwords, and then the way your remark about the backscene not being level... wasn't level. We've got a Google TV stick in our TV and we can cast our computer or phones through the HDMI on our TV. It is a Smart TV, but I don't think that matters with the Google TV...thing. We DO have a 3.5 year old and he's done alright with the TV. He touches the lower corner of the TV regularly and the TV is fine. If he got a hold of the cords though, that could be difficult.

Charlie, Another great video. I have to say, putting a bracket on the wall, and hanging a TV is the most fun you can have - NOT. Great idea to put the old TV to good use. If you want to completely get rid of the steam powered laptop, then I can recommend the Intel NUC computers, they are 4 inch square, and about 2 inches thick, so don't take up much room, and they can run anything, and are relatively cheap. Cheers, and take care, Michael

I can endorse the XtraHand recently promoted on Dragons’ Den. It’s a £17 device that fits on the end of your vacuum hose, sticks to wall simply via the suction and at the same time pulls all the drilling dust into the vacuum. It would have saved you all the black hessian rigmarole. Just in case you decide to do some more drilling.

Well It’s cheap and cheerfuI I just used gas assisted arms to the monitor n be anywhere anytime even at that size. 4K monitor is far superior to a tv as you know with your pixel density, especially when you’re looking at some finer things but it all in all, it’s a cheap and cheerful way to get a monitor up onto the layout. I remember when I mounted mine to set it off to one side I wanted the model railway to be the feature and people looking at that but it’s an interesting one and I don’t have the walk around accessibility and remote control access you have with your controller so my next conundrum is where will the operator be? The Hornby forums several solutions but I guess that something for another day as my identification labels have now arrive for the wiring. That’s the next thing, but I’m having far too much fun with the static cross. Oh, I think you can agree That the entire hobby is always fun.

Dear Charlie, cool mount. Wouldn’t worry about those snaps too much, once mounted you’re not supposed to touch the screen. Humbly think that anything can be pulled from the wall when excessive kind of force is used. Don’t think the bracket will subside to force put on the screen though. Kinda cool you used your old one from your living room. This not so smart tv now just functions as remote monitor? Makes me wonder why folks still buy so called smart tv’s. Now, I’m wondering where you will place your laptop, and subsequently how long of a HDMI cable you’ll need.

So, how did you eventually hide the cables to the wall mount? Here in the States the _de rigeure_ answer is to use "smurf tube" (from the fact that LV nonmetailc conduit is either bright blue or orange in color). Typically the 6x12 screws/bolts will rip out well before the wall brackets will fail. (I've been hanging monitors & tvs for close to two decades now.) Finding a non-smart tv is very tough anymore, and the railway room likely does not need an always-on mic and camera in the bezel.
