Lots of work done on the layout. Painting and laying down some ground cover and built my first scratch built building. #modeltrains #athearn #modelrailroad #HO
great video! I like the "test it and see" approach. one thing that you can do with your spray paint mistake is to make it a dry creek bed. I was in the building material industry for years, lumberyards are always a plus
New subscriber here. I see you are modeling California, which I wont hold against you, I do like what you doing. Using Goggle maps helps in all phases of planning . Nice job so far
Your 2nd lumber yard area could be turned into a transload facility. Might not be prototypical to your modeled area but adds a lot of operating interest and variety.
I'll think about that. Still haven't settled completely on the industries so we'll see what I can come up with. Looks like the size of layout will be good with 3 major industries and then smaller ones with just facades will work.
Nice little industry. How did you scale the screen shot of the side panels of the real building for the model? BTW, you have a strong resemblance to Athol Guy of The Seekers, an Australian band from the 1960’s. Must be the glasses!👍
Hi, thanks for the comment. I use open office software and use the drawing part of the program to paste the screenshot from google street view and then scale it to print out just the right size. Also, I think it's the glasses. lol
The Google map that you showed only had one track for the lumber yard. Why did you make it two tracks? You could have made the building bigger if you you only had one track. It is all good so this is not a criticism at all. I am just asking because I do not know how you are going to use that second track in the lumber industry yard. I liked the way you constructed that building. I keep getting ideas from you. Thanks. I am in So Cal as well and the 100F temp was also here in the San Fernando Valley.
I think the point there is that the second track is a lead for another industry that's on a trailing spur. At the time this video was made, it was going to be Shasta Beverage, but it's now a tanker transloading company. The second track has now become a spur down to the relocated Shasta Beverage and has had a run-around added.
I still use the real dirt but since the stuff I have around my house is kinda dark after gluing I've switched over to a mix of grout instead. Then just use the real dirt for small areas I want to touch up.
