Ive been following you for a while now, and have always loved your layout for its size, modern modeling and immense detail. Its seriously a dream layout of mine, except were it mine itd be CSX. I noticed especially in this video all the times you mentioned your dad and his fantastic work. ... I just lost mine from a personal accident on Sunday. Im 30, he was 63. He was my reason for my love of trains and model railroading. He loved your layout through all the videos I shared with him especially the winter scene, and was so supportive of my membership at the Chesapeake bay and western in Yorktown, VA. My point is, cherish your dad, the relationship you have with him, and the hobbies and memories you share with him. You cant tell him you love him enough. Thankfully I did, and my last words and conversation with him was a happy one. Anyone can be a father, takes someone special to be a dad. Take care Josh, Will
Hey Will, I am Josh's Dad ... and that was an extremely touching comment. I am so sorry for your loss. Your points are filled with wisdom and your relationship with your dad sounds similar to the relationship Josh and I share. As a Dad, you have the opportunity to be someone's hero. Your Dad seems to have taken that role seriously ... and successfully! I am sure you will miss him. We'll run a train around our layout in his honor and yours. Even though he might be gone he will live in the past, present, and future of your model railroading! Just another reason why this is such a great hobby! Our prayers are with you and for him! Sincerely, Tom (Josh's Dad)
@@tomclark4654 I am William‘s stepmom, Mike’s wife. Thank you for your kind words, and I know he will love hearing a train go around in his honor. Thank you so much
Man every air pipe and lines on those locos are so real and the overhead signals too. Never seen the real tree photographs for background forests. The soot marks going in the tunnels looks so real too! That's an art all itself knowing how to paint on the used looks on everything.
I think he needs a hobo shoestring figure riding the back of a Cadillac … can’t wait to see you off in alaska man. I always hope to bump into you when I’m hopping up around Knoxville
Thanks Joseph! Go back and look through the old videos on the channel. We have videos of the very first train running on the layout and have been documenting it ever since! - Josh
My name is Alexander King, I have a passion for NS I enjoy your videos and you're work. What is the future of the layout, is it a possible chance that you might expand it into another room or something. If not, you have a lot of pride into you layout. I love recording Norfolk Southern leaders on any train. Hope to see you, if you visit Houston TX, we can go find some Norfolk Southern leaders. Enjoy your amazing layout
I will vouch for Josh with the hobby store he talked about. I live here in Chicago and the people I know that are in to the hobby like we are all o hear is how great the store is and how awesome the deals are.
One minute in and i am impressed already as, unlike a lot of modellers who populate the countryside, but unlike you, never bother to put train crews on board. I thought i could see a locoman or engineer in the cab of the very first train. Excellent, i am always critical of such elements of realism as i am a British Rail retired train driver.
Really appreciate your positive attitude and ability to work with your dad and highlight him as well as other people you work with you a great example to our Hobby thank you and hats 🎩🎩 off to the Great Layout 👍🏻👍🏻
WOW! What incredibly detailed signal bridges! Simply superb! It was a delight to get another video update on your excellent NS layout to watch while I sipped my morning coffee ☕. And that access door is certainly a great new addition, as well. As always, thanks for sharing this video with us.
Really enjoyed the overall layout look Josh! Eric Brooman’s Utah Belt inspired a whole generation of modelers and you won’t meet a nicer man. Can’t wait to see the next video!
Your layout is a work of art. I love that cantilever signal by the engine shop and your CTC computer system. I'm working on DIY project to 3D Print my own signals (cantilever and all) and use Arduinos to control the signals. I always love seeing signals on other layouts. Great video as always!
Great update josh. Love the signals. That prime mover is awesome too. I also remember being in awe of the Utah Belt. Great job on those locos. Lombard hobbies is one of my favorite shops. Someday I’ll actually get to their store. Thanks for sharing! 👍😁 David
Always such a pleasure, not just the quality and content t if the videos, but the sheer size of the layout. As a UK fan, it's not often you see layouts of such a size.
Thanks for the ride! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 As usual Highly Appreciated 🤪 Great to see former SP on the move still alive & kickinking the main🤣 Saludos = cheers from 🇦🇷Argentina
Wow such an awesome layout. The first thing I noticed was the fallen leaf litter from the year before under the trees. Loved the tunnel portals. The weathering on the locomotives is super. And I really like the open door showing the prime mover. The signal bridges exhibit amazing detail. The whole layout is beautiful a work of modeling art ❕
Awesome man! If you ever want to make changes to the yard. I would recommend a switching lead. That way you can switch in the yard without using the mainline. IRL having to use the mainline to switch can make for a long day. Because you constantly have to call up the dispatcher to get a signal and they won't give you a signal if they got trains coming. Not that it doesn't happen, it does. At Hayne Yard in Spartanburg, SC. We don't have a switching lead on either side. On the south side it's due to having the west yard as head room. On the north end, We have to use the mainline if we have too many cars. But only a couple locals will have to switch from the north end.
Hello from Scotland, loving these videos, i have started an NS layout in my shed, i am just at the early stages, but i am getting alot of inspiration from what you have uploaded. Keep up the good work
Awesome video as always Josh. Wish you’d come by the model club in Charleston when you get time. We have been installing signals and upgrading the looks of the layouts. Hope to see y around man!!
This layout is great and so inspiring. I love your signals although I still can’t quite get my head round how US railroad signalling works in comparison to British signalling but still wonderful stuff.
… not sure if anyone but me would find this helpful, but as a newcomer to the channel, it would be nice if there was a playlist of all the “Layout Update” episodes, oldest to newest. I have kind of rolled my own and it has been very interesting to watch the Layout evolve over the many years you’ve been documenting it. … just a thought; thanks for content I have found to be festinating even despite not being a model railroader, myself.
Josh, I always enjoy the videos as I was a very nitpicky model railroader and I love your layout as everything fits. By that I mean not only are the locomotives and cars are correct, but the scenery and signals are a s well. The important part that you have done a perfect job of is to put the same focus into period correct vehicles. The awesome weathering brings it all together. BTW have you ever met Eric? I know he has very graciously hosted people in the past.
Very nice speed…awesome scenery….I am going to Asheville Nov 1st or so…would like to see that eastern yard….going to the Billy Graham Cove….”TheCove”. Do you have a direction from Tunnel Rd….and the #40 exit at The Cove?
Wasn't this layout just a plan about a month ago??? Fantastic progress. How do you find doing coupling and uncoupling on the curved areas of the yard? I may be doing something similar. But I'm worried about couplers not latching and unlatching. Cheers!
Your layout Is very cool and awesome. What signal system do you use for your layout? I do know JMRI is part of it, but what brand of boards do you use?
could i get more detail on that door bridge and those trip pins you called them; i cant find anywhere and am interested in building something along that line. thanks
White Rose Hobbies in West York PA has the preorder option very similar to Lombard's. Check us out. Thanks for the update on your layout it looks incredible.
