I think that in a way I have been searching for this music all my life. I always loved the 80's sound, but often disliked the artist or the lyrics. This stuff is the best of it minus the things that detracted from it.
After seeing the movie "Solo: A Star Wars Story" there's the final standoff with Beckett, and Han doesn't waste time listening to his rhetoric. No way to be sure without asking the director, but I think Ron Howard just showed us where he learned it, and why Han Solo DID in fact shoot first. I think that scene is a major subliminal display of rebellion toward Disney's decision to retroactively make Han Solo look like he was merely defending himself. Think about it, George Lucas wrote the darn story himself... if he wanted it to be that way, he would have from the jump back in 1977. It was Disney's decision, not Lucas'.
I wasn't even alive in the 80's (born in '93) but many of the movies from the 80's were still big during my younger years. So a lot of the clips in this video brings back memories from when I was a little kid and watched Star Wars every weekend when my father came home (and I mean pretty much every weekend for like 2 years), Star Trek, Robocop etc! Well done Neros77!
Somehow I seem to like the slow tempo jams more than the fast paced ones. The slow tempo ones brings out a more emotional side and the fast paced ones resemble more the superficial side of the 80's or mostly video games. Don't get me wrong they're all good!
+Open the Light AUA Yes to a point I think you are right, but I also like the fast paced tracks. This is one of my all time favs from Mr. Lazerhawk. I wish he would do more music....I miss him on the scene!
+neros77 I completely agree with you buddy, we miss him a lot... Now I'm dancing alone to that amazing video clip, thank you for sharing this masterpiece after all :)
I wish they did more of practical FX in the movies nowadays, like they used to. Now they just swarm the frames with computer-generated pixels and they think its fine. :(
Alec Goon When they overdo it, they also LOOK cheaper. I thought a very smart way of doing things was Dredd (2012), which was a kind of a cinematic equivalent of outrun electro in its own right. They relied heavily on practical FX, and then filled in the blanks with CGI.
A music video is not always about telling a story in the normal terms but can be a stream of footage that's supposed to give you a special feeling just like looking on a painting. I wanted to give my visualisation of this: A space opera double cross that provides one of the most mindblowing experiences on the album. From The Synthetix review check it out.
Truly a great example of what Godard was talking about it not mattering where you take something from, but where you take it to. This music video re-contextualizes various elements to create a distinct and interesting re-interpretation of a classic scene from Star Wars, where Han shoots first. But it's not quite as clear cut as that, the narrative doesn't emerge until repeated viewings. The emphasis is more on the over-all atmosphere then on straight-up storytelling.
Hi people, I love all this and I'm serious about it.... I have a question I can't find an answer: Who is the blonde man with 'melting' (reconstructing?) face at around 2:00, and which movie is this taken from? Sorry for my ignorance, I'm still kinda learning about this stuff... Btw, NRW is my greatest music discovery in last 10-15 years. Thanx!
-))) Blonde guy with melting face is the "space hunter" from old nice movie "Critters" (1986). The video above is nice mix of 2 cool movies: 1) "STAR WARS" & 2) "Critters"
i have been watching for videos for the last 3 hours and as a big fan of the 80s, i say no one can match what you have done here. You continously place badass movie clips and newer artists that are influenced by previous generations. please keep up the high quality videos and music selection!!!
I have heard that it’s now actually illegal to watch a Star Wars movie in which Han shot first. Which means that clip was from a personally archived pre-Special Edition tape, private personal stock. Thank you, OP for your generosity in sharing this with the fans.
The emphasis is more on the over-all atmosphere then on straight-up storytelling. It's 80's future-techno-grime at it's sleaziest and most sublime. Imagine what Han Solo's life was like outside of the scope of the Star Wars films. What kind of crazy shit do you think he got into out there on the Outer Rim? Flying through the Maw and defying both the laws of man and of time-and-space when he made the Kessel run in under twelve parsecs! The man's a damn legend. ...And the song's pretty good too.
@666chainsawkiller666 Thanks this was a very irritating one to make but I did make it in the end :-) iMovie is so limited haha! Good I found the secret Warp Zone!
