My Mom decided to get up and move to the middle of nowhere in TN far away from my home state while I was 17 and I couldn't find any good job at all. Only a few hours at gas stations. Nothing full time. So I mowed lawns for a $1000 chevy to get a job in the city. I also stayed applying for jobs every day cuz there isn't rationally much else to do besides look for work if you have no job. Unless I am mistaken. Took me 3 years of saving to move out and get my own place. Felt great.

I rmr in my early 20s having a job...and when in between I was always looking for a job and applying 2to3 applications a week or so...and this wasnt online n emails ..etc like today ..i had to hit the literal pavement to locations..catching a bus or 2 while not having a car at the time. With that same mentality today I got so many job offers the past 5 years just from resume online...i am sick of them calling/ texting/ emailing me about jobs. Turned down so many and they keep coming ...and I have a decent job overall for all that. I just never get comfortable and was curious the BLAMMO the offers keep rolling weekly Geez all the jobs in 2020 and 2021 are online

I'd go to the Newspaper office first thing in the AM, because the first put out in the (small) city were right in front of their office. I'd scan that and put new listings on my already outlined itinerary that was plotted to be as efficient as could be. If they were outliers, I'd put that on the itinerary for the next morning. It would vary as appropriate, but I'd hit as many as I could starting at 9:00AM to 11AM. I generally avoided canvassing on Mondays and Fridays, and from after 11AM-1PM to avoid the lunch interruption and distraction, same with Mon & Fri, Mon they are just back to work and Fri they're interested in what they are doing that weekend, and it's likely to get put in a pile for next week. While running an itinerary, I'd keep my eye open for other prospects and make a note of it for the next itinerary plan. Of course I carried a note book, good pen and pencil, a phone book and a pair of work boots and clothes so I could start immediately.

In the current state of the world, one has to first be realistic, and second, they have to be willing to do whatever it takes to improve their situation in life. In the case of single mothers, that's probably going to mean going back to school. There are plenty of grants and financial assistance for women who are in situations like I was, but they have to be willing to take advantage of these opportunities. Yes, it can be very exhausting and hard work, but it's not impossible. Faith helps...I don't think I could have accomplished what I did without the help of Jesus in my life.
