Bulgarian: Мър, Станке ле Е що си замръкнала Мър Станке ле Е на голяма нива Мър, мале ле Е шарено герданче Мър, мале лее Е сърмено коланче English: Hey beautiful Stanke ( name ) girl ( it is in softer sense than the translation ) Why did you stay till sunset Hey beautiful Stanke girl On this wide field Hey beautiful Stanke girl With colorful necklace Hey beautiful With a leather vest
This is seriously one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. It's always such a great feeling when you accidentally stumble upon something that ends up becoming so important to you.
Greetings from Ireland - this is beautiful. It reminds me of Sean Nós (Old Style) singing in Irish. Even in the earliest written records its was referred to as Old Style, so its really ancient. Bulgarians should be very proud to have this music as part of their heritage.
I too thought it was beautiful. I heard it on the Amazon/Crave series "Carnivale" and was mesmerised by it when I heard it at the end of the Season 1, Episode 4 called "Black Blizzard". I wasn't sure what the influence was but thought it somewhat resembled some kind of mystic ancient Irish Celtic music. And, have now found out I was quite wrong.
I too simply had to find out where that track from Carnivale came from. It was like hearing Ave Maria, Handel's Hallelujah or Pie Jesu, among others, for the first time. This is an astonishingly beautiful song. I am not religious but sense something spiritual or other-worldly when I hear beautiful music like this. And there are a number of other wonderful choral compositions on the Mystere album. Great stuff!
The scene from Carnivale, in which this song came up, is heartbreaking. I think that combination - song and film - in that particular scene, to be one of the most powerful scenes of the whole Carnivale-production.
@@knownuniverse93 Right on. I love the series as a whole. It has been my favorite show of all time since it aired, and to me the cancellation is still the biggest blunder and travesty in television. I don't care so much for television anymore, as it is almost entirely uninspired trash and propaganda, but man Carnivale, Deadwood, Rome all within a few years, and all three canceled. Never looked at HBO the same after that. Carnivale was truly ahead of it's time, and anybody who participated in making the show should be very proud.

Me too. I saw the episode it is from in June 2023 and made a comment on this site. It was Episode 4 from Season 1 called Black Blizzard. I saved this music to my favourites folder and it just played it which lead me back to these comments.
this one you are describing is Prituri Planinata by Stefka Sabotinova, the same singer as the above song which is translated into english as The Harvest Time.
It amazes me that there are two people out there (at this moment in time) who have disliked (thumbs down) this. This tune has haunted me on a daily basis since I first heard it in the late 80's. It's so freakin pretty.
@@moonlightfitz Yup, it was used in the soundtrack of a Canadian arthouse film called 'Jesus of Montreal' in 1989 and my flatmate at the time had an album called Le Mystère des Voix Bulgares. That album is a collection of traditional Bulgarian songs and was released in 1975.
@@WayneLyons OMG I didn't know that. I'll have to check it out. Thank you for that background. Now I will be on the hunt for the album as I still have a functional stereo system that would do it justice.
My favorite song from carnivale! Fits the scene at the end of black blizzard so well. That scene truly brings tears to my eyes still. Clancy brown is amazing as the villain who is more heroic, and in many ways a better person than Ben. But his fate is already set in stone. But it's actually sad seeing this guy born into evil trying so hard to do good until it consumes him.
I disagree. Brother Justin whether he was the Avatar of Darkness or not, reminded me of so many self important men of power with an over inflated sense of themselves. Dangerous from the get go.
You are right. I love all your father's compositions but this is not his song. I go to Bulgaria every year because I love your music and my biggest dream is to meet Prof. Kaufmann. Greetings from Italy

And here you have another reason why James Horner, the great film composer, was so controversial with is borrowing of his own materail or of famous pieces composed by others. After you listen to this, go listen to the second part of the Willow theme. You'll hear for yourself.
James Horner borrowed some bits and bobs from this piece when composing the Elora Danan theme for Willow. I can definitely hear the influence. What an amazing piece.
+elsa1942 Definitely, but I like Horners development of the theme much more than this original :) anyway, it was common that composers borrowed folk tunes for their music, Russian music from Tchaikovsky, Korsakov etc is full of this.
@@BrooklynPerson30000 exactly, 'bits and bobs' like the exact melody, structure and instrumentation. Aside from them being exactly the same, it's really not much more than a homage.
This is a beautiful song, however it is definitely not Le Mystere Des Voix Bulgares, as the title says. They are a female acapella choir, never with instrumental accompaniment. I am Bulgarian, and I know their music.
Who uploaded this song under the cover of this CD? This is a CD of my father Nikolay Kaufman. This song is definitely NOT a song from this CD and NOT his song! My father was very surprised to see his CD cover on this song. Shame that people don't read what is written on the CD before uploading music on youtube!
Ein wunderschönes Lied mit einer hervorragender, nein einer göttlichen Stimme.Kann mir vielleicht jemand den Originaltext in lateinischer Schrift schreiben?

Hello, please remove the photo from the video as it doesn't correspond to the content. The present picture is from the CD cover of "Portrait of Nikolay Kaufman", one of the main composers of "The Mystery of Bulgarian voices" and the song in the video is not one of his songs.
