What I love about Lea's version of Eponine and Fantine, is she made them into these complex characters. She made them powerful and like they had all these other traits instead of just being in love for one guy for Eponine. In On My Own, she even incorporated the 5 stages of grief in one performance.
@Jon Adol did you know it was the same fierceness of character that bagged her the main role in Saigon when she auditioned for it while only 18... There were 2 of them, local actresses with serious theater chops even at that age... The other girl was also chosen but became understudy, and eventually also reprised the role of Gigi in Miss Saigon. Lea's rendition of the song "I'd give my life for you" imbued a bit of rage and fierceness of a mother vowing to protect her child. The other young actress was all tenderness and love for her baby. The producers thot Lea nailed it. :)
@@ongjanette The other Filipina actress that was being considered for the role of Kim was Monique Wilson. She was cast as the Kim understudy in the original London production and as the bargirl Mimi. Monique took over the lead role of Kim a year later when Lea left and I think she played it for about two years.

@@baltazarmelchor451 Kahit sabihin mo yan, her "pitchy and too much vibrato" voice still one an Olivier and a Tony, and never once was Lea called pitchy by pitchy feeling ko lang sa acoustics ang may problema kasi it's projected through speakers kaya it sounds pitchy.
Many have sang this song but leas version is so amazing her voice plus her delivery is just uncomparable. She puts intensity and let you soak to the emotion of the song.
Wow, I wish I would've been more into my filipino roots when I was younger and followed Lea Salonga! One of the best voices I've ever listened to...plus she's on almost all Disney movies. lol.
Not too late. There are new breeds of Filipino talents that can be found here on RU-vid. Special mention would be that of Morissette Amon and KZ Tandingan. Enjoy.
I can only echo the accolades for Lea below. IMHO, hers is one of the finest voices on the planet. Still. Bravo. If you have not seen her cover of the song Take On Me on RU-vid, you should. It is amazing.
An outdoor performance. Not only the humans listening...but birds, dogs, horses, etc., just wait for her to finish, then just look around at all of the other creatures and nod, "Yep, that's how it's done!" That's the magic of Lea!!!
Proud kababayqn and fan here...didn' t know of these.performances of Lea until ive swwn in yt..thanks and many thanks..for me...i cant find any other Lea from our.local artists at present.. Filipinos is very blessed.to have.this Cebuana's pride... Dont know where.she's getting those angelic voices . Almost perfect !! Thank God Lea was born!
I see we have jealous haters who gave her a thumbs down! Probably jealous because they can’t even sing… pathetic people can be! You are the worlds gift to music Lea!
Choosing to believe that the thumbs down are from those who didn't like the cutting away from Lea to show the orchestra. I wish they would have just kept those crossfades - where you could see Lea and the orchestra superimposed over each other at times - instead of cutting away from Lea completely.
I dreamed a dream in time gone by When hope was high and life worth living I dreamed that love would never die I prayed that God would be forgiving Then I was young and unafraid And dreams were made and used and wasted There was no ransom to be paid No song unsung, no wine untasted But the tigers come at night With their voices soft as thunder As they tear your hopes apart And they turn your dreams to shame And still I dream he'd come to me That we would live the years together But there are dreams that cannot be And there are storms we cannot weather I had a dream my life would be So different from this hell I'm living So different now from what it seemed Now life has killed the dream, I dreamed
3:29 Sometimes when singing this song, I usually do this: Now life has killed the dream... I *literally takes it up the octave* dreeeeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEAEAAAAAAAAAMED(DAH)! just like Keala Settle does.
Lea is not just being a white woman when she is singing these songs. She is channeling a Beautiful White Woman in so much pain and yet still being beautiful, still ART.
