Lea Salonga and Liz Callaway duets: I STILL BELIEVE (from Miss Saigon) and THE STORY GOES ON (from Baby). Excerpts from Diverse City Theater Company's benefit at Carnegie Hall starring Tony winner Lea Salonga.
Let's not forget that both Liz and Lea lent their voices to be the singing voices for Jasmine as well. I would have never expected a duet with these two together.
What's especially awesome (I think) about Lea's singing here is that she was able to "make" her voice sound "young" again. Saigon was 1989, almost *20* years before this concert. Today, Lea's voice is much stronger, thicker, fuller. Yet in her opening section here she sounds like the 18-year old Kim again. Amazing.
I'm curious about something and I'd love to ask someone who actually attended the concert. We see Liz on stage from the start of "I Still Believe" but she enters the stage during the song "The Story Goes On" - did Liz sing a song, leave the stage, and then return for the second duet? Or are these out of order and they sang the duets back to back? Thanks in advance!
Vibrato master class! Everything is perfect in this performance, Lea has since gained an amazing maturity in interpreting this song that can only come with time. You'd think she couldn't have done it any better than when she performed this on Broadway but she has made this song richer and more beautiful. Ok, I'll stop fanboying now. 💖 Lea!!!
Consistently pitch perfect, Lea is! Her dynamics is just so goooooooooood! Her diction is wonderful making you want to listen to her every word. Every word that comes from her mouth sounds delicious! She always has this emotive touch to her every performance. You can listen to anyone with a lot of verbal calisthenics but you would often wonder what they are saying. Lea has got a very angelic yet powerful voice . She is above par excellence!
such a breathtaking duet from these two Disney singers. Im glued in hearing them and honestly I can't see any difference in their voices. It's just like hearing one voice!
Yes initially they do sound similar, but if you hear them carefuly, you can see Liz has a higher tone and their vibratos are completely diferent. Lea is a Mezzo and Liz a Soprano.
Bringing these two beautiful voices together is truly a gift from the Heavens! Liz and Lea, I have listened to these two duets here so many times since 2008. You are both "the greatest musical theater vocalists in the world!" I just got shivers listening. We are SO LUCKY to be able to listen to your brilliance. Thank you. Elizabeth
I have the Original London Cast Recording and I did a comparison with 1989 Lea and 2005 Lea's voice, aside from minor timing differences she sounded exactly the same for the first part of this song, simply unbelievable!
OMG perfect singers. I can't stop to stand also and show respect to these two amazing real singers. Timeless. No exact words to express how amazed I am
SOOOOO powerful! I can't begin to say how much I enjoyed seeing Miss Saigon when it was on Broadway. I was lucky to see both in the show several times... "I Still Believe", "Last Night of the World", and "Now That I've Seen Her (as sung by Liz Callaway) are my favorite songs in the show. To hear both singing "I Still Believe" 20 years later is truly amazing. As much as I loved them back in the 90's, the emotion expressed here is all that much greater. Just wonderful!!!
They both are so great! Their voices blend so well together. They both seem to admire each other so much. My opinion, the best live version I've heard.
Two truely brilliant voices, I can certainly tell the two apart but I grew up with them. 'I still believe' is one of me and my best friend's favourite duets. I sing the part of Ellen xx
