She won Tony, Olivier, Critics Circle, Drama Desk, and THEATER WORLDS (the biggest award among the 5), in a SINGLE SEASON. I can’t think of any other performer who was able to accomplish this.

Lea didn't win the Olivier Award in the same season as the other awards because the Olivier is given for excellence in West End theater. She won the Olivier in 1990 (she did MISS SAIGON on London before Broadway). Lea won all the other awards in 1991. But she did receive all those awards for the same role, which very rarely happens. I'm not sure if she is the only performer to win all 5 for the same role, but she is certainly one of the very few.

This was the 10th anniversary concert for Les Miserables at the Royal Albert Hall, with a hand-picked 'dream cast' from previous productions of the show. It was a special concert, not the actual show itself. Lea had been in the show previously and was the first asian to play Eponine. Later on she came back to play Fantine and sang "I Dreamed a Dream" in the 25th anniversary concert.

Beyond singing "A Whole New World" in the *Aladdin* movie Lea also sang "Reflection" in the *Mulan* animated movie and she performed as Eponine and later Fantine in *Les Misérables* and created the lead role of Kim in *Miss Saigon* at only 18 years old first on the West End and later on Broadway. Lea Salonga is known for a lot more than just singing "A Whole New World" from *Aladdin.*

The original is a musical ;"Les Misrables"Lea is the first"Miss Saigon" at 17 years also a musical.She is a famous Broadway star and a Filipino. She is the voice and singing in "Mulan "and "Princess Jasmin. Lea is famous for her Disney singing princesses .OMG ! LOL !!

I've read somewhere that when Leah was auditioning for her first broadway musical, she was unprepared. She had to ask for the lyrics and notes to the director and sang right there and then. And that because of that they learned that the whoke orchestra was off-key and only Leah was on the right key. She's a pitch perfect, never misses a note, which was also according to the many professionals who worked with her.She was also the first non-caucasian to ever act two major roles in les mis, paving the way for colored artists. Ms Leah is a world class, high respected broadway royalty and disney legend

that's not true though. her first broadway musical was miss saigon. she didn't audition for it as she was cast for the show. she did audition for miss saigon london show, not for the broadway show. also, it's LEA, not LEAH.

Hi! New subscriber here and Lea Salonga fan. Try checking out her duet with Rachel Ann Go (another theater actress) for the song "A Movie In My Mind" from Miss Saigon. Leah was the original lead back in 1989, I think then Rachel played same role on the newer version. Promise you, worth your time! 😊

This was considered the quintessential performance for On My Own. No one sings it like this anymore, not even Lea Salonga herself. You should check out her performance of I'd Dream A Dream from Les Miserables 25th Anniversary 15 years after this. She's the singing voice of both Jasmine and Mulan, and she's the original Kim in Miss Saigon.
