This is Jean Smart’s Golden Age. She started in Designing Women with her late husband Richard Gillibrand, has worked pretty steadily since then, including a great stint in Fargo, an Emmy for Frasier, and her career has taken off within the last few years. She’s a fabulous actress, beautiful, and from what I read is very well liked in Hollywood. I always root for her when she’s nominated for something and she should be busy for a long time to come.
It is - I grew up watching Jean in Designing Women and always like her and now here she is being in Mare, Hacks, Fargo and recently in Babylon - she's having an absolutely great time. Reminds me a lot of Judith Light too - grew up watching her in Who's the Boss then bang, Transparent, American Crime Story, AHS etc It's great seeing these older and fab ladies doing great work.
I had the pleasure of working with Jean on Mare of Easttown back in November 2019 right outside of Philly, and she’s just as lovely, funny, and kind as you’d think she is. So happy for her win!!!!
I was calling for her to win the Emmy when I first saw a promo photo for Hacks, before I even watched an episode....lol. She could stare at a wall, and she'd deserve an Emmy.
What are you talking about? She's already been nominated 11 times, and won 3 times before this like they said, the first one being almost 20 years ago. You make it sound like this is the first time she's ever been considered for an award.
@@Mr21scott But the others were all for guest appearances or work on limited series. This is for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series--for which only Delta Burke was nominated during "Designing Women's" run. And she lost.
@@franciscoguerrero4564 it is a dark comedy. It’s not a drama by any means. The term you’re looking for is “Dramedy.” Which already exists and applies to shows/movies that are mostly dramas with comedy sprinkled throughout.
Looking fabulous for 70. Loved her in Designing Woman & her late hubby. The standing ovation was partly in tribute to her late husband. How she held it together, she exudes such poise and elegance, like her dress.
Jean Smart has being killing it on tv these past few years: Legion, Watchmen, Mare, and Hacks. Glad she got the gold, again (Guest, Supporting, now Lead)!
Right on! I've been a fan of Jean's for roughly 35 years and this is the best thing she's ever done IMO. She REALLY deserved this. IDK that she believed she was going to win this. It's REALLY hard to work when a beloved spouse/soulmate dies in the middle of production and I can't even imagine the strength it took for her. Jean is a real icon and I admire her so much. ♥️
Did they REALLY (lmao) play "time to say goodbye" when they needed actors off the stage !?. GO JEAN !!!!!!!!! Hacks is such a great show, and its so brilliant to watch you thrive in this role.
Jean Smart is truly extraordinary. Her work in Hacks, Mare - she is superb at comedy, tragedy, and everything in between. I have loved her since "Designing Women."
I just adore Jean and she definitely deserved the Emmy for “Hacks”. I grew up watching reruns of “Designing Women” (I was a baby when it aired) and I *love* that show. I’ve rewatched it on Hulu so many times now. I’ve also seen Jean on Watchmen, Hacks, Veep, Arrested Development & more. She’s such an incredibly talented & versatile actress who never let herself be typecast as a “ditzy, leggy blonde” (even though she’s always been beautiful) because she knew she was capable of so much more. I was so sad to hear of Richards passing (who she met on “Designing Women”) in the news. You’re an amazing lady Jean. We love you! 💚
