Lead Time (LT) is one of those terms many speak about having different interpretations and meaning. When speaking about LT everybody should be aware of what he wants to describe. Though nobody should care if lead time is used in the right way or not unless others knows what you speak about. Also the term Throughput Time is an often used term describing something very similar to lead time though differences between both exist.
Imagine going to a fast food restaurant. Once you place an order, let’s say a hamburger, employees of the restaurant start to produce your order. If we take the time from placing the order until you receive your hamburger you will finally get the lead time of that product. At McDonald’s for instance the lead time is around 90 seconds depending on the product you order though we know some components of the hamburger are already prepared ahead, like the meat or sauces.

Not sure why you had to mention Europe between parentheses as if it's not common for people to know that Portugal is part of the European Union.

I liked it. A Simple way to explain it. Maybe you can add the "cycle time" explanation, more related to flow-based agile projects, as an extension of the vídeo. That way you will get a lot of PMP students as viewers.

The buffer you added is FIFO, and what does it mean if the throughput time equal to lead time?
@TheRyantanner
@TheRyantanner 6 лет назад
he said in many cases the throughput time and lead time are equal. assumption being made is that little to no buffer is built in so they're the same

So what is the difference? What is the marked pen in real life? And what is takt time?

Is value added time equal to lead time

This is explained really well and clearly. Am I right in thinking that the lead time is the same time as takt time? I'm doing an essay based on a restaurant and I need to use Takt time as a solution to one of the seven wastes.
@LeanActivity
@LeanActivity 7 лет назад
In a restaurant, the lead time is the time from the customer ordering his meal until the waiter delivers the meal from the kitchen to the customer (e. g. cooking + delivering). Let's assume we have the two process steps cooking and delivering: It takes the cook 15 min per meal and the waiter 2 min to deliver the meal to the customer. The take time of the cook is 15 min, the take time of the waiter is 2 min, hence the lead time is 17 min.
@lucs1981
@lucs1981 7 лет назад
The take time you mean takt time? Cause that'd not be correct I think. Takt time is orders and total available time. Sounds like cycle time to me what you're saying here.
@lucs1981

Btw, if the lead time starts when customer orders, what happens with the time in the queue in mcdonalds before ordering or when you sit in the restaurant and you wait for the waitress even gives you the menu etc all the time until you finally order. Isn't that part of the lead time?
@LeanActivity
@LeanActivity 7 лет назад
Takt time is the output of your line and should meet 100% the customers' demand.
@LeanActivity
@LeanActivity 7 лет назад
The lead time starts at the moment the customer orders (you can't start measuring the lead time before any order is placed) until he receives the product. If you have to wait for the waitress, you should care more about your potential customers as sales should do in any business. Anyway it is waste when then have to wait and must be eliminated. Good point @lucs1981 !

Very cute tutorial :) thanks so much! One comment and I hope you don't mind me saying this (you teach me and I teach you).... 'hello together' is not a colloquial phrase. My guess is that you have literally translated from German, Danish or norwegian... 'hallo zusammen' 'hej alle sammen' 'hei alle sammen'. Unfortunately in English it doesn't really work. Hey everyone, hey all or hey guys is more natural :)
@LeanActivity

Indeed, we say "Hallo zusammen" and I mistakenly translated it 1:1 to English language. Thank you for your feedback! I am glad you like the Video!
