Heavenly father, in complete agreement with this message I loosen the promise of ephesians 5:25 that leadership of men means taking responsibility and sacrifice for the woman they love, loosening myself of every bossy man that plays the leader without being a leader upon no return, loosening myself of men that do not take the responsibility they have to take in my life, in the name and blood of Jesus Christ, amen and hallelujah!
So how did you get this from one verse? Obviously a husband’s role is to sacrifice and take responsibility. Yet if that’s true shouldn’t the wife also follow the leadership of the husband? Obviously because the Bible says so.
Yes, that is correct. But as Dr. Piper mentions, it’s a wonderful dance. In an ideal biblical marriage, it’s good and uplifting for the husband and wife to support each other (the man as the leader and protector and the woman as the follower and nurturer) because those roles are perfectly complementary and built around each serving the other.
I have been examining religion for so long trying to find a way not to believe, but to believe IN religion. I am concerned that Christians are trying to absolve themselves of their sins by removing responsibility from the equation by declairing that they were just following their leader, Christ. Kinda like a soldier saying he was just following orders.
