Wonderful and informative video , thank you. My grandmother, Katie Sullivan used to bring food and clothes to Baby Doe when she was a child. Her father, my great grandfather, was a mine speculator and sold the Matchless and Little Johnny mines to Horace Tabor.
Thank you for sharing your story. I love hearing stories about people's grandparents that remember her. She must have been so memorable to them. Because I've heard that many times from many different people.
Cool and interesting visit to the old mine site. Interesting story of the frozen lady. Wow, extreme times back then. Thanks for sharing your adventure. Take care and have a great day.
I read a book about Baby Doe years ago. Since reading that book, I've wanted to go to Leadville to see the cabin where Baby Doe lived out her life. The only time I made it to Leadville was to go to a super bowl party with two ironworker friends who were staying there and working a job in that town. The Matchless Mine wasn't on my mind that weekend. 🤪 Baby Doe and Mr. Tabor really did live it up when they were together. It's amazing that she lived into her 80s in those conditions. Sad that she died the way she did. She must've been one tough lady. Thanks for the trip to her house; I truly enjoyed it.
The story of Baby Doe is so sad. I have stayed in Leadville a couple of times overnight but did not make my way to the Matchless Mine. Thanks for filling the gap. There are some wonderful old buildings in town with many a story to be told.
Hi and thanks, Colorado Martini for sharing. I didn't know about Lady, Baby Doe Tabor. A very informative and creative tour as always, you are a very very gifted storyteller. It's such a sad story that her frozen body wasn't found until two days after her death. I wonder what happened to her two daughters and her descendants nowadays. Well done and keep coming, ☺
It is a sad story for sure. Her daughters disowned her. Google Silver Dollar Tabor to find out how her one daughter died. It is very sad. We are so pleased you are enjoying our videos. Thank you so much for watching.

This was an interesting story. Very sad story about Baby Doe. Frozen and alone is a sad way to go. It is hard to imagine what it would feel like to go from being wealthy to living in poverty. Thanks for sharing this!
We have a Baby Doe Restaurant in Dallas. I remember going when I was 18 to celebrate my birthday. It is quite the place. It's designed like a mine on a hillside. What a story. She is quite the dresser. Frozen! Yikes. She definitely took rags to riches and back to rags to a whole other level.
There is a play and movie about the Tabors. There is even more about his kids. We are so pleased you enjoyed the story of Baby Doe and the Matchless Mine. Thank you for watching.
What an amazing history and sad story about Baby Doe. We visited Leadville years ago but not the mine. I always learn something interesting from your vlogs CM 👍🏻😊
I love learning new things, especially history! Baby Doe's story is so sad though :( Amazing to see all the mining district and that those hills are all from the mines. Thanks for sharing with us!
Great guided tour of the Matchless Mine, it is a beautiful spot to live. All things considered, she had a pretty good life, living in beautiful Colorado🍸
This one was a lot of fun. I enjoyed learning about Baby Doe. So tragic how she died but very neat seeing how she lived. Loved the peek into the outhouse. 😁
That is so interesting she came from money she married money and then she was broke. What happened to her kids? That she died alone in the cabin. It's a shame that they looted the cabin. Disrespect for sure. I thought the Outhouse was cool. The Mineshaft as well. Thank you so much for the history thank you so much for sharing👍👍👍👍🤗💗
Her kids ended up disowning her. Her one daughter, Silver Dollar, wrote a book that did well. And try to get into the talkies. She got caught up with some shady characters in Chicago. And they found her scolded to death in a bathroom in Chicago. That's a whole story in itself.
Part of the History that's not mentioned here was that Baby Doe was by Horace's bedside when he was dying.....and as she held his hand, his dying words to her were..."NEVER give up the Matchless", Meaning that the Matchless mine had made him rich and even though the Silver Crash had driven them to poverty.....he believed Silver would make a big comeback and make her wealthy and the Queen of Colorado once again.....and that's why she lived there at the The Matchless....till her dying day.
I was thinking 🤔 what your reaction would have been had there been a mannequin in the outhouse when you opened the door. I 🤣 out loud! I just read the other day that snakes have been found in Colorado at 14,000'. It was on Google, so 🤷♀️ might not be true. ✌️💛😊
They usually can't live in the cold. And that area is cold a good amount of time throughout the year. I don't know I'll have to look it up. He told me to watch out for snakes because where we originally come from those are the places that they like to hide out. Sheds, storage boxes, outhouses. Yeah I would have freaked out if there was mannequin in there. You would have heard me scream
@@ColoradoMartini Thanks, that makes sense about the snakes. I'm sure we would have heard you scream, and you probably would have made us out here watching scream with you! 😅
she spent many days at the Delaware Hotel; there was storm after her last venture to town for supplies and she got trapped with only a little bit of coal and wood (which was wet with snow ) left to burn and the snow gave a her a false sense of insulation while also blocking her fire from adequate ventilation; she likely suffered suffocation and cardiac arrest.
You're welcome. My hubby worked at the Delaware Hotel in 2017 if I recollect; There was a book about Leadville, i think the latest book at the time that I wanted oh soo so badly; hubby was given a copy for me and that's where I learned about BDT's late years; i immediately went and parked across from the mine let it all sink in. I love my hometown💜💛@@ColoradoMartini
