This is probably only storm staffer or storm bowler who doesn't have a phaze 2. It was out when he made this too. He definitely have you a good starting point. Check out Luke Rosdahl's video on sport shot selection. Using a number system is how college bowlers put bags together. Makes sure you don't have overlap. As I sport shot bowler, almost exclusively, I'd say phaze 2 OR zen master PLUS a zen needs to be in any tournament bag, if you use storm, roto grip and now 900 global is under that umbrella.
New subscriber. Enjoy the video as always. Good timing as I’m building my boys’ arsenal for the league and tournaments. Thank you for all that you do in the bowling community. Keep it coming.
I just saw this...Yeah almost a year later., but spot on!!! Love how you do what you do. GREAT STUFF and Info...This is what I was looking for and it was nice to see and hear you both talk through it...AGAIN GREAT STUFF!!! Thank You!
@@jrproshop So Looking for a new 3rd ball option...I love the NEX cover stock on the Proton, but was looking at the Axiom Solid or Hy Road Max...What do you think?
@@jrproshop 🤣🤣🤣 that's how you know you're in Canada. Jerks would probably make our juniors change it. it's not bowling team name but my 3v3 soccer team was "sporting good dicks." Made it all the way to semi finals and they got rid of the name. Didn't even let us change it. Ended up winning and had "team 19" on our trophy🤦
I have a nightmare building an effective arsenal (and I can't afford to just purchase bowling balls HOPING they will work properly). In my youth, I was a high speed, high rev bowler with a full roller release, however Age and injuries (I am now 55 with back and knee issues) have dramatically adjusted all of my stats (except my revs). My new stats are now: Ball Speed: 12 mph. Revs: 390-415. PAP*: 6 5/8" right x 1/8" up Axis Tilt*: 14 1/2°, and Axis Rotation*: 32°. (*all three found through a professional evaluation a week ago. He also described my release as a "shovel" style, reminiscent of a two hander, but I throw with one hand - thumb in). Because of my rev dominant low speed shot, I am forced to play with an arsenal of plastic balls (even in my sport shot summer league). My two best balls right now are the KR Strikeforce Clear Rose (a Lucite clear ball with a rose in the center) and a Pyramid Pathogen Blue Dot (a Polyester ball with a massive asymmetric core). Both balls for me are powerful late hooking strike balls (the Rose having the stronger back-end), but I struggle still with short oil and dry lanes. I was looking at extra hard polyester balls like the Brunswick Crown Jewel or the Columbia Blue Dot, but I've heard that both are brittle and I would destroy them in no time with how I throw. Do you have any suggestions of what balls I might be looking for to complete my arsenal*? [FYI: The Radical Spy didn't work for me, and I've historically had no success with Hammer, so I avoided the Black Widow Spare.] I do not really need a "heavy oil" ball, because I have scored well on both Shark and Dragon using my Rose ball. I am open to entertain just about ANY suggestions.
Good analysis guys, this has helped a lot for sure. What are your guys' thoughts about using balls from different makes? I'm just getting back into bowling after a two year hiatus, and I'm looking to build my arsenal around what I already have. I have a couple of Motivs at the moment, but im on the fence about sticking with that brand for the rest of my bag, and I dont know how I feel about shelling out a ton of money on an entirely new bag. Your thoughts?
Yea mix and matching brands is fine, that way you can really hone in on what kind of ball you want and where it'll fit, just each brand does a 'complete Arsenal' so you won't have to worry about overlap much if you stuck with one brand
I have a spare ball and I have a Hustle USA. I want to get a third ball, am I correct in thinking that the USA would be the mid if the three based on your examples? And my third should be something that hooks harder? I like the USA but it doesnt like to hook much on freshly oiled lanes.
For my league balls I'm thinking of going with reality solid asymmetrical for strong ball, then rst 3 assymetrical hybrid pearl, then my weakest ball another assymetrical but urethane pearl UC3. I do have a symmetrical solid crypto. I like it but finding it kinda boring.
What do you think about a Crux (1000), Phaze 2 (oob 3000), Phaze 3 (oob Polish), Hyroad Pearl (oob Polish), Supernatural (2000), Spareball Arsenal? Thanks and greetings from germany ;)
Yea that's a really solid 6 ball arsenal, great mix of balls. I would just recommend if you can shoot your spares with the super natural, I'd replace the spare ball with an axiom or another ball that would fit between the crux and PhazeII. Thanks for the comment !
Got a good question My arsenal is Brunswick Wicked Siege (asymmetrical/ weaker cover) and (spare ball) Hyroad Solid (Symmetrical Game 1 ball) Prism Solid (Asymmetrical game 2 or later) Prism Hybrid (Asymmetrical when lanes break right side) I bowl Mondays medium volume oil on synthetic lanes Wed heavy volume oil on synthetic lanes Fri medium volume oil on wood lanes. Question is On synthetic I start with Hyroad Solid Game 2 prism solid and even game 3. But wood lanes I'm struggling with any ball I use.. any ideas or tips with wood lanes.
Wood lanes are very high friction. Your ball is probably hooking too early and you don’t notice it. I’d suggest a sym pearl like a wolverine or spectre. Or if you prefer Brunswick the new knock out
My bowling ball arsenal right now is RG Ufo, Storm Physix, RG Idol Pearl, Motiv Villain Scorn and plastic ball. I would like to build 6 ball arsenal including plastic ball but i feel like i have balls that are too similar to be in the same arsenal? What should i add to have better look in the lanes when sport patterns are in use?
Question, so how at the end of the video you show the graph with the hook potential and the response time and how you label each ball depending on the hook and response time. Will that change depending on what layout you have on the ball or will it be the same?
I know anybody can pair their arsenal with any of all they want but or anything but if he's focused on the most aggressive, medium ball then spare I can go my white plastic ball, my hyroad symmetrical hybrid, then either my cell or the new proton that I plan on getting maybe tomorrow. And then for tournament bag I can go four ball arsenal. Go from strong to weak. Proton physics, nuke cell, hyroad, then white spare. What do you guys think about that? I am a righty throw it 15mph and rev rate is 415.
a possible upgrade from that a year ago, id go with my strong proton or the new DNA, then eternity, then phaze 2 then phaze 5 or hustle USA then white spare. but if i can get these cracks filled in then ill stick with the hyroad and hustle rap
Really trying to create a 3 ball arsenal for my league. I really prefer hammer bowling balls. I am a lefty however, bowl like a righty as a back up ball. Also more of a full ball roller. Any suggestions?
Interesting. So I'm gunna suggest an obsession, obsession tour and something like a web hybrid, as a good 3 ball mix, as I'm assuming your rev rate is medium- low from throwing a backup
@@jrproshop thanks yeah I am definitely not a high Rev guy. What did you mean by web hybrid? Did you mean the web tour edition hybrid? Right now I have a rip'd pearl, web pearl and cobalt vibe.
So pretty much pearls and solids symmetrics and asymmetrics and quick and slow response mixture... I didn't see either one of you with a hybrid. How does that play into there or does it not?
Typically, hybrids will fit somewhere between the solid and pearl options as far as response time goes, with the same core on the inside of the ball. The box surface of the ball will indicate how quick or slow it will be
Yes exactly! this is because everyone throws it a little differently and everyone will have a slightly different layout. So i think the best way to do it is bring the 6 balls to practice one day and throw them all on the same line and you will really be able to see the difference, assign a number to the length and the shape of hook and graph it. You'll really be able to see what you have/are missing.
My current arsenal is Axiom, Parallax, Axiom Pearl, Hustle RAP, Mix. How would you rank these balls in an arsenal, and what would you add to bridge gaps, if any?
It’s hard to say without watching you bowl. But seems like you don’t really have a high performance solid. Something like Storm nova or 900 global reality
@@jrproshop I'm just a league bowler right now. I do want to start bowling more tournaments, so I will take that into consideration. My avg ball speed is around 15 mph, and I would say my rev rate is pretty high. Idk if that is enough, but would you say I should start with the parallax or axiom?
I like the way you broke each ball down. Don't exactly know how to get the information for the stat sheet you have. I throw motiv equipment which I change to in the last year. I usually use the information from their website and Bowlingthismonth website to compare in order to see the length and backend. I like to learn how to get the numbers on this stat because it is more easier to see what I need.
Hey Richard! Are you referring to the graph at the end? Those are made up from the strength of the core, coverstock, and finish of the ball, in our opinion, but also from experience from throwing the balls
