League of Legends "Still Here" Cinematic | Motion Designer Reacts! 

Their purpose of stopping the face reveal before the eyes is the show us just his nose scar which is associated with yasuo, a league character.

The characters presented in this cinematic are: Kayle - White winged angel/valkyrie, she is an aspect of justice and twin sister of Morgana. She believes justice should be delivered swiftly and with no remorse, no emotions or feelings should cloud anyone's judgement. She believes in carrying her mother's legacy with an iron fist. Morgana - Purple winged angel/valkyrie, the twin sister of Kayle. Despite looking edgy or evil, she is the more compassionate of the twins. She uses earthly magic ( the purple chains ) in favor of her sister's celestial powers and chose to abandon her mother's legacy. She bound her wings with chains so she can walk among mortals. At one point in the past their disagreements bloomed into conflict and they went their separate ways. Kayle resents Morgana to this day. Aatrox - Demonic looking entity with wings and a giant sword. Aatrox is a darkin, a corrupted god-warrior who is imprisoned inside the giant sword. As such, he is unable to die. He hates this existence and seeks to destroy the world, in his mind, it's the only way to make his torment end. Every time a life form comes into contact with a darkin weapon ( humans or even animals in case of Naafiri ), the entity imprisoned inside corrupts the life form and transforms it into an approximation of it's former self, completely transferring the consciousness into it's new host. Aatrox had so far ( I think ) two hosts. This one in the cinematic was the first one. Kayle destroys his host in this cinematic, but he will gain a new one later. Yasuo - The wanderer, a ronin, has learned the wind technique from his master, Elder Souma. Yasuo had a brother Yone, also versed in the arts of the wind. At one point Yasuo's master got killed by Riven, a girl who also knows wind technique. Yasuo got framed and the blame of his master's death was put on him. In self defense, Yasuo was forced to kill his brother. Since then, he is wandering the lands. Kindred showed Yasuo a vision of the future, showing a much older self who swore to never kill again, which explains why he replaced his signature katana with a staff and is seen only grazing the bandits with the sword and not slicing them to ribbons. This vision is in this cinematic and it reveals his death. Tryndamere - The barbarian king, shown laying dazed in the snow. His tribe got attacked and demolished by Aatrox. He faced Aatrox and got defeated, but received blood magic from his encounter. Aatrox infused him with said blood magic in hopes of corrupting him to turn him into a superior, more suitable host to carry the sword Aatrox is trapped in. However Tryndamere kept his sanity intact and gained Undying Rage. A blood magic ability that allows him to become simply put unkillable for a duration while he is in a bloodthirsty state. His eyes glow red during that. Ashe - Tryindamere's wife, initially betrothed after an arranged marriage to unite the tribes, they actually developed genuine feeling towards each other and fell in love. Kindred - Essentially League of Legends universe's version of Death. They are two entities in one, Lamb, the white goat-like/satyr looking archer wearing a mask and Wolf, a shadowy wolf wearing a mask. They appear to every living being in their final moments to collect their soul. Those who embrace death receive a peaceful and quick end by Lamb who shoots them with a glowing arrow. Those who reject death and try to flee, get chased by Wolf who violently and slowly rips their souls out, resulting in a painful death. Tryndamere encounters Kindred due to his life being in peril attacked by multiple raiders at once. He is like an anomaly, an exception to the natural order of life and death, as such both Lamb and Wolf try to collect his soul. Every bite from Wolf and every arrow from Lamb would directly correlate to a killing slash/stab from the raiders, but because of his Undying Rage, he refuses to die and lives trough every single blow from them. Being unaware of the last two raiders behind him, they would've been able to surprise stab him in the back and kill him. If Ashe were to fail hitting them behind Tryndamere, he would've died stabbed and the third and final arrow from Lamb would strike him, his soul collected by Kindred. Instead, they hold their shot and vanish. The way Tryndamere reacts to Kindred though, makes me believe this is not his first encounter with them.

3:20 it was intentional, he does not want to kill people anymore with his wind technique and in general so he used his wind technique on his sword to hit them hard without the sword's edge drawing any blood

I love your analysis , at 9:40 what is even better is that character (Yasuo) have a very noticable scar across his nose, so even if the eyes aren't shown , ppl familiar with the character recognize him immediatly

Great Reaction! About the old man not spilling blood from his enemies. The story on that is because Yasuo is coating his sword with the wind and not making it have contact with them. He's so done killing people and so he's not using a sword from the start. But even with the sword, he have used the power of the wind to just knock them out and push them. There should be some animated vids about his past what the sword and the wind have done in his life.

So many people have talked about the incredible way they have moved the camera. The lighting and the cuts really make the whole cinematic feel that much more incredible.

3:19, there's reason why there's no blood. the short explanation is that the person (Yasou) had gotten nothing good from the wind technique, so in this time of place, he was done with killing

So, The 2 angels you see are Morgana (the purple wings) and Kayle (the white wings) are sister demi-gods or celestials I think. The scenes we see them in together is the past, because the moment Morgana used her dark powers (the chains), Kayle the other sister disapproved of her actions. Hence you see Kayle give a pretty nasty look at Morgana. Also a nice note is that Both used 1 sword, but Morgana put hers into the ground before using the chains. Kayle stood up and picked up Morgana's sword and started dual wielding. The Huge winged humanoid is Aatrox, a corrupted god or something, which is actually the sword alone. The body is actually a human who picked up the sword and got transformed and overtaken by the sword. Aatrox is basicly out to destroy the world. In the moment that Aatrox gets engulfed in flames by Kayle's attack, you can see a sillouete/shadow of League of Legend's version of Death. (more on death later in the text) This whole part was the past. The 2nd scenario is where the polearm wielder defends a woman against bandits. This guy is Yasuo, a samurai that uses the wind in his attacks. In this future scenario he submits to death as 1 arrow flies straight to him at the end. No idea why he started the scene holding a stick, but he only uses a sword ingame. Probably to show how he doesn't want to kill anymore. This is all in the future. The last scenario. Now the cinematic actually starts with this barbarian guy, who sees a shadow walking his way before fading to black. The barbarian is Barbarian King Tryndamere who is fighting enemies. But when he regains he consiousness he gets attacked by a white humanoid and a black wolf. This is Lamb and Wolf, or better known as Kindred, Kindred is Death in League's world. Lamb is the soft embrace of death while Wolf is the painful struggle against death. As Tryndamere is near death, he doesn't see the humans he is fighting, but instead sees Kindred (aka Death) as the enemy that he is fighting. Then Tryndamere's eyes turn red, this is a power/ability that he got from Aatrox, which makes Tryndamere basicly unkillable for a few seconds. So death is trying to kill a unkillable being, even if only for a few seconds. At this point you see Kindred lower it's bow when 2 arrows pass Kindreds head. These are the arrows shot by Ashe, Tryndamere's wife and a leader. Kindred sees that Tryndamere is not going to die at this moment and disappears, showing the real enemies and Ashe appear instead. This is all in the present. I hope this explains it a little bit. Sorry if it is confusing, layout and sentence structure wise.

something i want to add here is that they actually didnt include blood because the video is lore accurate. The character you see in the scene is done with killing, so he uses the wind to turn his blade into more of a baton when striking the enemies. Really cool addition

I really liked that despite being a little longer than The Call, it felt so much shorter. There was so much happening that it was easy to lose track of how long you had been watching

The part you said was "PG" was because at that point Yasuo pretty much vowed not to take another life. He's using his wind magic to disable and incapacitate, his sword being a guide for the magic.

I don't know you, but RU-vid threw me here and I was curious what a motion designer would say to this. Really like your comments on this! I don't want to throw much lore at you, just one thing: The second fight (the "PG" dude) wasn't made PG on purpose (well maybe), but his backstory made him do this. In short: This character doesn't want to kill people here, he uses his wind techniques to knock them out. Some people even speculate he uses this last 'wind blast' to knock his enemy out of the range from the approaching rain of arrows.

If you want to understand the lore, why Yasuo is saving ALL these characters and not killing them (you called it pg), Kindred hidden in every transition/the personification of death, etc, check out Necrit. You'll realize there's so much more here and so much depth. Thanks for the editor's perspective.

No blood is because Yasuo is done killing. Hey man I appreciated the breakdown though, it was an interesting perspective. Loved it.

Side note for me. As someone who has played league since season 7 off an on. I’d love to see a rework on Morgana that allows us to see her light side and dark side. It’ll never happen since her whole character is built around being a fallen angel and her sister Kayle is the light side of that coin. But it’d be cool.

3:28 It's actually lore accurate. This character has grown old and doesn't want to kill anymore. Part of why this cinematic is great is the abundance of storytelling that can be noticed after multiple watches.

Aside from all of the crazy lore that's present in this cinematic, the thing that really stood out to me from a cinematography perspective was the speed ramping. There's someone who worked on this that just absolutely LOVES it hahaha, and it shows! The mid-air battle with Kayle, Morgana, and Aatrox has so many speed ramps that all feel impactful and powerful. Love this one, and an excellent breakdown by yourself!

About the close-up shot of the old man: it's actually half of a two-part character reveal. The tease, so to speak. It purposefully didn't show his eyes and instead only lifted up to show the iconic scar on his nose that most players would recognize as Yasuo. He's normally depicted as mid-aged swordsman, but in this cinematic he's old and wielding a staff. So up until this point it still wasn't clear if it is the same character. Only after his hat was knocked off and the ponytail and the wind powers were revealed that gave the fans the confirmation that it was indeed Yasuo but in the future. So yeah, there's another layer to that dramatic shot but it's mostly for the players/fans. Also, if you enjoyed The Call for the technical aspect of it. I imagine you'd have a better appreciation of this cinematic from the storytelling side of things. And for that I suggest you check out Necrit's video of this cinematic. (You'd probably see a ton of the same suggestion in the comments). Still Here may have come short of the visual impact of The Call but the layers on the storytelling on this one is just amazing.

The lore in this video is just insane. You could write 100 pages about everything happening. If you really want to understand whats happening i recommend Necrit. He explains everything behind the scenes.

the reason there is no blood on the saber fight, is because the main character is using his gimmick wind technique to actualy not deal any physical strikes with his sword. like, he don't want to kill anyone basicly.

There's a 99.99999% chance, you are never gonna stop reacting to these, and I'm ALL INTO THAT 😂, these people make some real good cinematics, would be nice if you could cover these a bit more

the macro shot of the samurai's face (his name is Yasuo) works just as well as the eye shot they didn't do, because the horizontal scar over his nose is a dead giveaway for fans of the game who that is

The Barbarian guy is called Tryndamere, which is the name of 1 of the Riot founders, the woman that was saving him was his Wife Ashe, which is the name of the founders wife. so they are even married ingame

Fun fact, the PG part your talking about was actually story intentional. That character is essentially a war vet turned Pacifist, so before his blade would cut down everyone in his path. But now nearing the end of his life he uses his powers for a non bloody end.

Highly recommend the "Awaken" cinematic from League of Legends if you havent already. All of these are mind blowing. Love your break down and analysis!

Yasuo didn´t draw any blood, since he swore to never use his powers again to kill. So the Wind around his sword, simply pushed the enemies away, knocking them out, without killing or even hurting them too much.

"Barbarian Guy's" Name is Tryndamere. Like many of the champions in this cinematic, he has an uncanny supernatural ability. His is the ability to simply be too angry to die to put it simply. The character he's fighting is Kindred (Lamb and Wolf), the harbinger of death for this universe (the grim reaper). Dynamically, he's both fighting impossible odds in the material / physical plane/world (soldiers), as well as fighting off death its self as a consequence. Both metaphorically and literally. It's a multilayered fight to illustrate the fact that he keeps cheating death, in a manner of speaking. A very poetic and well written scene, as a majority opinion.

Besides the PG thing, in the lore of the village burning scene that man called Yasou and he murdered a huge amount of people so he decided not to use his power for killing anymore and thats what happened in the scene he was forced to used his power to protect the village BUT he just knocking them down instead of killing by using his wind

The Samurai part actually happpens in the future of the "current LoL time", in the game there is a Ronin Samurai called Yasuo that fights using the wind. This cinematic implies that in the future he gave up his wind abilities and sword completely. I've seen a channel speculating that we don't see blood when he is fighting because he is purposefully not hurting anybody. We see some kind of wind gust covering the edge of the sword, and even the last guy, it seems the tornado that Yasuo hit him with just pushed him away from the arrow volley that ultimately kills Yasuo. It's all interpretation, but Riot mastered the "show don't tell" in their cinematics, so i think it's a plausible theory.

3:19 Funnily enough, this is all intentional He uses a nonlethal weapon, the staff, and refuses to use his wind magic due to his violent past (Briefly put, someone else with wind magic killed his master, and because the place where he lived saw him as the only wind magic user, he was framed and had to flee). Even when he picks up the sword after realizing it would not be enough to stop the marauders, he still chooses to miss them, only hitting them and knocking them around with his wind magic.

Yasuo ( The Old Guy, with the sword) didn't actually kill any of these guys, he is tired of killing and just used his wind power to knock them all out, that's why it looked like they were pg friendly

There wasnt any blood because he hasnt killed anybody, ikf you watch closely you can see that he covered the blade with his wind technique it was more like a club. its a great detail if you know his lore

With the swordsman he is using the wind to knock them down because he had given up the sword because there was too much death in his life.

The barbarian king tryndamere is in the brink of death so kindred is there to collect him. Kindred are two spirits embodiment of death. Lamb which has the bow and arrow offers mercy to those accept their deaths while Wolf will brutally rip you with no mercy to those who refuses to die. That is why, Wolf attacks Tryndamere because he refuses to die. Tryndamere has a ability of blood magic where he got it on Aatrox (the first clip the demon looking being). He stabbed Tryndamere and infused his blood inside him to be a potential host for aatrox. And so because of that blood magic, whenever tryndamere uses his rage, he will not die. (The moment tryndamere's eyes goes red)

3:19 they did not kept it PG for nothing, Yasuo (the one attacking) is trying not to kill anyone but insted is using his powers (the wind) to knock them out without killing. It's in the future, and after a life as a warior killing a ton of people on the battlefield he doesnt want to kill anymore thats why he starts off with the stick, but then is forced to draw a sword again, one last time to defend an inocent before accepting his death (eventhough he could have prevented it he just has enough with this life). That's why there is no blood.
