Welcome! The story of Rachel and Leah is a tale of love, envy, and God's intervention in human affairs. This story not only provides insights into the dynamics of family relationships but also reveals important lessons about faith, patience, and the consequences of envy.
Jacob, the grandson of Abraham, fled to his uncle Laban’s house to escape his brother Esau’s wrath. Upon arrival, he fell in love with Rachel, Laban’s younger daughter. Jacob agreed to work for seven years to marry Rachel. However, on the wedding night, Laban deceived Jacob by giving him Leah, his older daughter, instead. When Jacob discovered the deception, Laban justified his actions by citing the custom of marrying off the elder daughter first. Jacob then agreed to work another seven years to marry Rachel as well.

My dear brothers and sisters. Thank you for the video. I have been struggling a long time on the twelve tribes of Israel. For me the struggle is on marriage between one man and one woman becoming one flesh and Jacob’s story. With Solomon we know that he has been warned on having more than one wife. And we see the consequences on that. But with Jacob I do not understand. Of course he loved Rachel and worked 7 years for her and I know Jacob was deceived. So Jacob married Leah, worked another 7 years and married Rachel. So Jacob married two wives. So that is not according Gods will…. But here comes the confusion…. ‘When the Lord saw that Leah was unloved, He opened her womb; but Rachel was barren.’ ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭29‬:‭31‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ So Leah gets the support of God. Eventually Jacob went into 4 different women, from which two he was not married to. So where is the responsibility of Jacob himself on this? He also knew that God blesses a marriage between one man and one woman. He had a great example…….his parents….Isaac and Rebecca. I also do not see any repentance towards God on this like David did qith Betseba and Uriah, who was killed indirectly by David. So the twelve tribes of Israel come from 4 different women from which two were not Davids wives. Of course I know that at that time they had maids, but God is still the same today as yesterday. I really struggle with the fact that God approved both marriages by opening the wombs and also the two wombs of the maids. And besides that no repentance of Jacob having sex with four different wives. MAybe someone here has a good biblical explaination on this. It is not the case that I have doubts on God, not at all. He is righteous. If people ask me difficult questions I can answer them all, also on violence in the old testament. But I simply have no reply on this when they ask me.

I understand your concern. It was always God’s intention for one man and one woman to come together in marriage as he set the example of the first marriage between Adam and Eve. However, man sinned and the darkness of sin entered into the heart of man. Before the law of Moses was established, man was led by his conscience. It was after God gave Moses the law that man knew exactly God’s requirements. That did not stop man from continuing in his traditions as you see that Solomon and others still continued with the practice of having more than one wife. Despite the brokenness of man’s heart because of sin God’s plan for his son Jesus to come to earth to redeem man from sin had to continue and so God’s plan was fulfilled in the birth of his only son out of all. We will not understand it all for now but one day all will be revealed to us. God is sovereign and righteous. He knows and understands all our complexities but still loves us and sent Jesus to redeem us. We will never be able to answer all the questions that people may have but be assured that one day God will reveal everything to us. Thank you Jesus. God bless you richly.
