This is an excellent presentation of pentatonic scales and modes on the electric-bass-guitar. This lesson is simple, yet effective and clearly explains the best part of being a bassist: "Grooving beyond the ordinary!" - Ernie Leblanc, "Into the Bass!"
I can't say how much I thank you, I started out with guitar, but never got a grasp on musictheory at all. With your lessons I finally got it and now I'm even able to audiate my playing, something that pushed me a giant step forward
Improvising seems like the hardest part. I can follow most of the video and do the exercises but when he says to come up with ideas of your own, I ain't got many 🚫
Great lesson. What about using A minor pentatonic scale above the A and the D minor pentatonic scale above the D ?? ( which is how i usually visualize things )
Have you watched the videos that come before? It's a whole construction this course. Each step built on the previous one. I'm no music genius, yet I've understood tons thanks to these videos... because I've been following every step with close attention.
"A minor pentatonic scale contains all the notes needed to support the Am7 and Dm7 chords. " Please explain. The A minor pentatonic does not contain an F - the minor 3rd of the Dm7. So, how does the A minor pentatonic scale contain all the notes to support both chords?
It supports both because Am is relative to the key of C and the note F is in the key of C and in the key of Dm. Even though F is not in the Am pentatonic scale. I think that's what he meant to say.
There you go Zach - The old musical ear is developing... When you live with the sound of something long enough in your practice it's amazing how you can tune into it and pick it out in all sorts of musical styles!
MusicCollegeTV Well sorry, I don't understand you response? I don't see the answer on this page comments or any blog? What is the make of this bass? The body resembles a Tobias but with EMG's it sound great dig the tone...
Improvise as in solo? Straight up solos are boring. The bass line in Wonder's "Sir Duke" is one of the stupidest riffs in all pop music. Pentatonic, Schmentatonic. You ain't teaching feel, dude. You don't play along with anyone's records so all your verbose BS is just that. You guys never teach to playing music as a rhythm player, the bassist's primary function.
