乘 sounds more formal. 坐 is more conversational.

But how the hell is "taxi" made of two mountains, a tree top and an eye? (if I recognized those symbols correctly) o_O Can you explain the meanings of each of the component characters of "taxi"? (except the last one, which is "car").

1，yes 2,我的车着火了（着火 on fire） 3，出租 means "rent out", 出 is "out",and 租 is "rent",so "rent out car" refers to Taxi,make sense right?

why do you have the fei character in 'very very good'? I thought 'fei' means 'not' or 'is not'. so, i am very curious. the way i see it, fei chang hao should mean 'not always good' or 'not often good'.......I just started learning few chinese characters. ''chang' and 'fei' happen to be in the first verse of Dao Te Ching....
