You made descript looks so simple to use. I downloaded it, but I was so overwhelmed by all the stuff they were trying to jam down my brain all at once.
@@vp-land watching while at work, so I’ll finish the video later. Does descript have music you can add or do I need to add music files from another service?
Hey I'm new the descript & came across your video. This is great. Very simply explained. QUESTION: I'm using a Dell Chromebook & it it's super slow & I can't see the image... what could it be?
Thanks! So Descript works best as a desktop app because it can download the video files locally which speeds things up. If you're on a Chromebook you're using their web portal which is still in beta and may be why it's being slow and weird. Here's more from their documentation: arc.net/l/quote/kybwxjbi
When will there be a video which explains how to turn text into a AI voice text using Descript? Is there a tutorial out there? I would be very happy to see something like that on your channel!
This is a fantastic tutorial. I followed it step by step and learned a lot. Thanks a lot 👍👍👍 One thing that I could not get Descript to do, was when I changed the text in the transcript it just ignored it i.e. there was no sound while going over that piece of text.
@@vp-land Thanks very much Joey for the prompt response. That is correct, when I add the new sentence it show it in blue, but there is no voice when it goes over the blue text. Also, if I change or replace a word in the middle of the sentence, new new word is also ignored. Many thanks🙏
@@vp-land Thanks very much for the prompt response Joey. That is correct when I add a new sentence it it shown in blue, but it is ignored and there is silence when going over the text in blue. It looks that I am not able to allocate a voice to the text in blue either. Also if/when a word is replace in the middle of the sentence, that is also ignored. Many thanks🙏
I noticed you changed your working view within Descript from a vertical to a horizontal view within the editor? I am not talking about resizing the video. You show showed that. I am specifically trying to figure out how to change my working view within the application.
Do you have an example video of what you're looking to make? Like you have a PDF of slides and you want to turn it into a video with narration and the slides are the video?
@@vp-land absolute legend. Trying to find a platform where I can do PowerPoint slides with a face camera. Seems difficult to find the right platform then I initially thought lol
@@mxsty7268 We've got this video that covers presentation recording: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ICanXjC7sQ0.htmlsi=KgppYzF8KmmNeG1B Descript has a desktop + webcam layout setting but you're stuck with how it records it. To switch between the two or do different layouts you need to record them as two separate files
Hi, thanks for the great tutorial. When I record (and playback) in Descript, at 1080p or even 720p, the video is jumpy - vs when I try in eg Loom, it is smooth. Are there some settings in Descript I can use to cut down processing bandwidth for a smoother video? eg turn off auto transcription?
Do you know if the video itself is jumpy when recording or just the playback? If not sure you can download the recording to your computer and play it back to see. And how long is the recording and do you have other videos in this project? The bigger the project, the slower Descript gets. Descript is pretty resource intensive, so it could also come down to your computer specs. You can try Descript's web based editor in beta, sometimes we've had better playback experiences there.
@@vp-land Thanks - it's jumpy at the recording stage (and then at playback also). It's only a few seconds long and is the only video in the project - ie unfortunately as soon as I start recording a tiny test case, it is jumpy. I'll check out the web based editor, and otherwise perhaps need a new laptop - thanks!
I want to make RU-vid shorts of excel instructional videos but can’t fit the full screen properly into the portrait view. Any suggestions on how to achieve this? When I scale up to portrait it doesn’t fit properly on the screen
HD video is a 16:9 ration, usually 1920x1080. If you're computer monitor & screen recording is set to a different ratio, when you import into Descript and edit it the video might not fill the screen or you may need to crop the video to fill the screen. Check your screen recording settings so you record in a 16:9 aspect ratio.
descript doesnt always get everything im saying, some of the audio is shown as audio levels in the script, how do i do this? I have the free version at this moment and I'm speaking swedish
@@vp-land if I move the timeline, the duration of the audio file changes, which I don't need. if I press together with ctr, then the timeline changes to the word, which I don't need. I only need to move the scene so that it shows the words as in karaoke, but the first word is not colored until its time has come!!! I noticed that if you click on the scene in the timeline, 2 points appear, the beginning and the end of the scene. But if I move the point, the scene does not change!!! And when is not sound it put more point how to put scene instead of point??!!
Joey, thank you! This is a great video. How did you change the position of your video Canvas to the top and script on the bottom? No one knows how to change this??
@@vp-land 2:35, the layout. Canvas on top, Script on bottom. I want that. Unfortunately, my set up has Script top left, Canvas top middle, side by side? I want to change it to what you have onscreen.
Hey Joey, how do I add more tracks in the timeline? I want to add a teaser video and bumpers to the recording and have them overlap slightly. In using Davinci I could do that but this is a bit more challenging. May be it's worth a video tutorial? Thanks
hmm I don't think there is a way, just to adjust speed. You'll probably have to use a free online tool to convert the clip, then bring it back into Descript. Like this one clideo.com/reverse-video
Descript in theory sounds amazing, but in practice it's absolutely terrible. It works great if you edit the EXACT way they want you to edit, otherwise it becomes a nightmare to use and navigate. The interface and timeline is extremely clunky, takes ages to do simply move things around and it's extremeny buggy - I had to re-edit 2 of my 30 min videos because they got messed up by descript. The only plus is the script editor and the dubbing feature but I'm 100% sure there will be more tools out there that will do a much better job soon. Also they changed the entire UX overnight so users like me who purchased an annual plan before that got stuck with a headache inducing nonsensical editing experience, very different from what it was before.
Hi Joey I have a quick question if exampl I'm editing an icon and I'm trying to copy the icon settings across different ones , like copying the size ,the the effect and paste it on another icon ( attributes) can I do it on the descript
@@vp-land for example, when I am putting the video on descript and instead of exporting the video and put it on adobe premiere or Final Cut to edit it. I just want to add the icon to the videos in descript but I'm tired of editing the icons one at a time . I just want to edit one icon and copy the changes and edits and paste them all on the other icons. Hope it make sens 😂 thanks in advance
@@vp-land like a picture for for example, like a small picture for example, if I'm talking about the weather you need a cloud icon or picture you know what i mean
@@squizi7090 ahh ok got it. if you want it to show up the whole time just open the timeline and drag the layer out over the rest of the video, around 12:50 in the video
Thank you; great job! I am not sure how to shorten an imported video b/c the cursor was going so fast at times. Like the one your used from descript fit your scene time exactly, or does it automatically cut it?
Thanks! Hmm I'm trying to understand better what you're trying to do. If you want to get really precise with where a video starts/stops, open the timeline view and drag the end of the clip to the exact moment you want. Let me know if that makes sense or you're talking about something else.
I accidentaly created a title in the video. How can I delete it? I tried to erase it but the cursor cannot pick it up to be deleted.... I go mental. :(((
I hate this program with all my heart because whenever i try to press start something it works and something not until you cant even play it...I HATE IT
I need to edit a long video, about 30 minutes. I have a great computer but experienced laggy editors before for this large video, do you think descript can handle that?
Thanks - it's this one amzn.to/4aya0aQ I wouldn't recommend it - the arm always falls. If you look at all the more recent videos you'll see I got rid of the arm and just use the stand.
Thanks this was very helpful - i was having a lot of trouble transitioning from classing to current version. i was ready to give up on descript after being one of its biggest fans. you won me back over lol
Bro, for the life of me...I cannot figure out how to un-do something that gets deleted. Captions doesn't even have the feature of "un-do". Is this a common thing!? HELP
Hi, I'm struggling to change the voice of the video. I'm trying to add the AI voice, but still not able to change the voice. Please assist me with the video. Please help me with this.
@@vp-land Thank you so much for your reply. I'm still facing issues changing the voice of my video. Here are my steps: I created a video project. Then I uploaded the video and chose the AI voice. Then I clicked on the play button. However, I still see that the video hasn't changed. Even though the color of the text remains the same as in the previews, I can see that the AI voice has been assigned to the script, but the voice remains unchanged
Hi Joey can you please give me a advice how to turn of subs because when I export and download the video from descript it has my captions from descript and plus it has got subs (I have mac so Im talking about the "automatic subs from mac...) Have a nice day!
I've been putting this off for so long (since September at VidSummit to be exact!! haha) because i wasn't following the tutorial in descript! doh duh....so i finally searched youtube for a quick, down and dirty and this was soooooo helpful. Hereby Subscribed. ~ LindaRey
I know you said something in this video about not getting into (that particular topic) here so i'm looking for other descript videos here. I can't remember what it was....need more coffee. haha
Hmm might've been about transcripts, which is here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EJXVcJJucjg.html Or Overdub, which just went up: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-a-Bf2QRWFLs.html
@@vp-land i'm on free version only which i think limits me ... i.e. i don't have the composition box under the video and i can't edit any of the words. i'll see what upgrades look like. it seems worth it since i've been using imovie doh.
scratch that. i see free is only for a certain length of video. my composition is on the side and i found the "correct" button. oy learning curve conundrum! haha
