QUESTION: I want to hand-embroider on cotton fabric which is going to be made into a skirt (so wearing, washing in future). I will, of course, pre-wash / pre-shrink the cotton fabric before embroidering/sewing. Most videos available are for machine-embroidery, however, perhaps it applies also to hand-embroidery. Can you give me any advice on what I should use as stabilizer?

Thank you, very helpful. I'm a beginner embroiderer and stabilizers are the most confusing. I love Sulky products. A question I have is how to tell the difference between tear away and cut away if the label is not with it. I acquired some from a friend.

Hello Lisa from Hawaii my question is where do I put the stabilizers on the piece that I'm sewing or on my cut out that I want to sew on the skirt. I want to put the cut out on a silk skirt? Please advise

Hello! To clarify, are you doing applique? Cutting out a shape and then doing a satin stitch around the outside of the shape?

Hi,thanks for sharing this information, quick question about the spray stabilizer, is it starch based ? I'm allergic to most starch products.

Good morning, Lesley. I checked the back of the Terial Magic and it states, " Terial Magic is a non-starch stabilizer which means it won't attract insects or leave a residue."

What would be the best option for embroidering on very light material like chiffon and a light polyester? I’ve tried a wash away and it is puckering after I wash it out. It needs to be invisible as it is a worn project.
@SewingPartsOnline

I, too, would have tried the wash away. Have you tried using 2 layers of the washaway?

I, personally, have not; however, I have been told that you can.

There is a question I have! What causes the thread to bunch up on the needle & eventually thread breaks while you are embroidering?
@sejbomb

Is it going to be hard to embroider a stretchy jacket with the cut away stabiliser AND sulkys printable stick n stitch please? Because that would then be 3 layers to go through 😅
@SewingPartsOnline
@SewingPartsOnline 3 месяца назад
No you should be totally fine! If you run in to issues, maybe try some titanium needles: www.sewingpartsonline.com/products/schmetz-titanium-embroidery-needles

Isn't the spray on stabilizer just the same as spray starch? Thanks.
@SewingPartsOnline
@SewingPartsOnline 8 месяцев назад
Great question! It's like super concentrated starch. When you use it, your fabric becomes paper like. You won't get the same results from standard starch.

Instead of using a stabiliser, is it possible to simply use the same material that you've embroidered on?
