I read a lot about stabilizers, but a lot of people talk about machine embroidery, so this was a really helpful video. Thanks.

OH! I agree, There have been times when I gotten part way through a pattern and wished it was stabilized. I learned a lot from my Great Grandmother. She used newspaper for stabilization. She had phenomenal skills and tricks. I learned a lot from your tutorial. Thank you so much. P.S. I have used a thin paper material that worked. But I prefer the washable version for hand embroidery.

That’s so cool! It’s cool to hear what people used in the past, maybe even before different kinds of products were developed. Thanks for sharing!

Great info as always! I’m horrible at drawing, so I absolutely need to use a pattern whenever I do a project and before I discovered that you could actually transfer a design onto the fabric without having to draw it yourself, I pretty much avoided doing any actual projects. My absolute favorite stabilizer is the printable version of the Fabri-solvi that you use. I got a giant 6 yard roll of it online for a little over $20. I think it’s awesome that I can print on it and it’s transparent enough that I can just trace over it too. I really think it’s the only one I could ever need to use, unless it’s a delicate thin fabric. Thank you for all your great help and advice!🧶

Hello! I would to buy a Solvy Stabilizer as well and I was looking at the printable one in form of a roll. The same one you use. Would you mind telling me how you get the roll flat to be able to put it through the printer (iron it)? And does it work well? I'm assuming you got the sticky one and i heard it's really sticky. Thank you!

Thank you so much! I’m just getting back into embroidery after about …cough… 20 years and I realized the flour sack kitchen towels I chose are thinner and stretchier than I expected like I’m jumping into the deep end when I can barely dog paddle. 😂 Gotta make those Christmas presents though. I can’t believe my mom used to have to make them a lot as a little girl from actual flour sacks. Wow.

I have some rhinestones I need to sew onto raw silk in a specific geometric design. It’s a continuous pattern but I need to ensure the design is the same throughout. I don’t want to have anything left behind, could you recommend the best option please

Hi there, I am taking on a huge project. I am hand embroidering a maxi dress made of black stretch velvet. I purchased Sulky Totally Stable Iron-On Tear-Away Stabilizer and I have Paper Solvy water soluble Stabilizer which you either have to Hoop or use Solvy KK 2000 which I'm having a hard time finding at a reasonable price. I don't want to use the totally stable tear away on the front because I'm worried it will show afterwards but please correct me if I'm wrong about that. I was thinking of using the Totally Stable on the back and then pinning or hooping the paper solvy on the front to transfer some of the designs. Flowers and most of the tree won't need a transfer. If I put the totally stable on the back won't it make it so my dress is far less stretchy after the embroidery is done? The design is intricate and pretty much covers the dress. It will be a huge tree with tons of flowers, birds, a lady, and a swing on the skirt, with stars, and the moon on the bodice. It's going to take forever, lol! Thanks in advance for helping. Farren

Hi! I had a question about how to use Pellon Stick and Tear Away Stabilizer for long term hand embroidery projects. I saw on the package that I should only have the stabilizer in contact with the fabric for an hour. In your experience is this a strict rule? And if so do you have any advice for how I can get around this restriction?

I have personally used it for pet portraits that have taken several days and haven't had any problems doing that!

I'm very new to this kind of embroidery. Is it ok to use a iron on pelon interfacing on the back of a T-shirt before starting the project? Also, do I need a stabilizer on the back AND the wash away stabilizer on the front on a thin T-shirt?
@crewelghoul
@crewelghoul Месяц назад
I don't have any experience with iron on interfacing, I'd try it on a piece of scrap fabric first to make sure you're able to easily stitch through it. And it wouldn't hurt to have stabilizer on the back and the wash away on the front especially for fabrics that are thin and stretchy!

Which printer can be used to transfer images to stitch and stitch paper? Thankyou
@crewelghoul
@crewelghoul Год назад
You can use a regular inkjet printer and print on it in greyscale but you'll want to be sure to test a piece of the stabilizer and ink on a piece of fabric before you commit to using it just in case it doesn't wash out well!

Hello, do you think I can use the super solvy as a design template? To transfer the design on it and then put it on top of my material and through the hoop, or is it too light weight? Thank you
@crewelghoul
@crewelghoul Год назад
Yes, you definitely can! I use the medium weight and put it on top of the fabric for most of my designs.
@moreymara433
@moreymara433 Год назад
@@crewelghoul wow really? so you put your design on the super solvy and it works? I'm sorry, I just want to make sure before i buy it. The texture and consistency of it seems like it would be hard to keep it in place and draw on it

How did you get rid of the paper scuzz that remains with the water soluble stuff? Im having such a hard tome getting rid of all the tiny paper remnants and Ive submerged, held it under running water, etc...clean up is frustrating.
