There are a lot of lazy dumb teachers out there. This is why American tennis has not produced a Novak. They'll take your money, and everyone stays the sa.e level. I've lived in 4 states in my life. Every state has the same bs teaching pros. They don't have a clue.
This is one of the best forehand videos on the internet. So many instructors want to compartmentalize every step of the swing. You make it abundantly clear that’s it’s all one fluid swing. Great tips.
I literally watched this today, right before my league match. Let's just say that I beat a player convincingly, who I didn't beat a couple weeks ago. Thank you for this! I'll never forget these tips
I found it really helpful to use just two or three fingers to hold the racquet while training. This precludes the stiff hand and really helps feeling how the looseness actually makes things better, which might feel counterintuitive.
This completely helped. My racquet felt so much more connected to the power of my shoulders, hips and legs -- I gained confidence and found greater ease in accessing topspin. Thanks, Kevin!
Very good explanation of how to hit with greater power. I've always been a technique geek, enjoying teaching friends. A lot of the pros don't extend. But the most powerful ones do. Rafa, Federer, and Fernando Verdasco was another great forehand with extension and strait arm.
Only thing I wish you recognised and explored was the impact of this approach for effortless controlled power rather than emphasising racket head speed. For.me, the really enlightening aspect is the amount of control and power (pop, too), you get from no racket head speed but precise racket head positioning (with super early prep) and extension ....pure thing of beauty!!
Good tip. I try to think like this: - Direction: racket face - Spin: swing direction Given this information, I try to fit my swing so that I'm "throwing the racquet" and, at the moment of contact, the racquet face is facing where I want to (directing the shot), and that the "straight line" of the forward part of the swing is going on how much spin I want to add to the shot. If I throw it, like, 45º upwards while maintaining the face of the racquet perpendicular to the ground, it's going with topspin. 60º, for instance, a little bit more topspin. Of course, if I wanna throw the racquet 60º, I need to begin my stroke a little bit lower than 45º. In short words, having that first knowledge of direction-racquet face and spin-swing direction, I just choose how to "throw" my racquet. I've been training like this for the past few weeks and it has improved my forehand A LOT. It helps me have a more fluid swing and it simplifies a lot the thought process. Just throw it. Do you agree with this? Do you have any considerations that can help me even more?
Wonderful job! Technique in tennis is like the technique of learning an instrument, a lot of attention, work and repetition at reduced speed if possible and without necessarily looking for an immediate result until the movement becomes optimal, natural and effortless. Many thanks for this video!
Aprendi mais de tênis com você e este canal TTD do que em anos com professores na minha Cidade! Sou grato aos meus professores mas este canal e este professor são os melhores! 🙌🏻👊🏼🎾
Interesting that extension gets overlooked with much focus on lag and windshield etc. Boris Becker was saying his coach said he didn't care what he did too much on the start of his swing he was interested what it looked at contact and follow thru. Agassi said the most important part is the foot after contact. I was like OK explain. But they weren't around. Lol so you tied that tip in splendidly.
Awesome video. Do you hit the outside of the ball for topspin? Everyone says, 6 to 12 and you said the out side of the ball, it's confusing. I have watched alot of you videos but do you have one dedicated to where to hit the ball for all spins and shots? Thank you
Hi really good it did look that angle was making top spin. When you watch and then listen for the timing there is a slight delays. Like when you hit a chord on electrical guitar. So the pro have that contact point a bit longer than it sounds.
Great video! Anyway you could do a serve motion video? I am struggling with my motion as I feel it’s taking too long, causing the ball to drop which is causing me to “short arm” and not get full extension on my serving arm.
Can you be my wingman at a club?? Man U r good with words :) hah.. also maybe in the future, can you make a vid on grip pressure via using the last three fingers, first three fingers, leverage? There are not many vids/posts about this topic that are deep in meaning. Thanks!!
I had this discussion with tpa tennis dude. He said dang near the opposite of you about flicking around the ball. Has lots of videos emphasing gimmicks imo.
Could you please also give examples from wta players? Everybody is just analysing Nadal, Federer. But you can’t necessarily apply their technique to women. Watching your videos since a while now when u were also with Ryan. Thank you
It really depends on contact point I wouldn’t completely agree with everything he said but I agree about extension but I don’t think it is something you can force it because you will arm it
Only few top players hit it fully extended like Rafa, Roger or Fernando... the pop is irrelevant with this. The power comes from body and hours and hours of intense training. Pros focus on what happens prior to contact! rest is natural and not forced..;-) most pros hit with arm slightly bent as every player has its own way and style. Also Nadals technique is not the one to copy as most club players dont have the fitness level and will just get injured by trying to copy him..and by far Nadals technique is amazing from “Effortless biomechanics” point of view. I would model it more on Berdych for probably the most fluent and most effortless technique. But yes good points on relaxed wrist as most club players are too tight with whole body actually.. 👏
When I’m bouncing a ball then hitting it I can make the best looking shots. But when someone hits a ball to me I fall back into one of many bad habits picked up over the years. 😡
I'm tired of teachers criticism of "rec" players. We don’t hit 8 hrs per day! We don’t have 3 coaches. If we did we could be on the tour. Don't talk down to clib players. We are the ones paying at tournaments . Making it possible for pros to make millions. All good juniors come from "rec" parents!😮
This is a bit frustrating. You mention Djokovic, who hits with a bent elbow, but only show Federer and Nadal who hit with extended elbows. You also demonstrate slowly with an extended elbow even though you hit with a bent elbow with your full speed swings. A beginner or even intermediate isn’t going to see your bent elbow. If I was a beginner and saw this I would assume that the “right” way to hit is with an extended elbow when the reality is that the degree of elbow extension at contact varies from person to person and the vast majority hit with a bent elbow. Many players develop bad habits trying to hit with an extended elbow when their natural swing is with a bent elbow. Elbow extension and hitting through the ball are two different things.
Totally should have shown Djokovic extending through contact with a bent arm. Sorry it felt a bit confusing. I think I mention that you could do this with either a straight or bent arm. Thanks for the feedback.
I think this is wrong. Those players you are showing are already playing with straight arms, contact point far out in front and therefore it only looks as if they were extending after. Tell a player with bent arm to extend after contact and he will lose all the power. It is very unnatural.
