The best part is that Brennan made Bolo from Aeor, which implies that in cannon Aeor is basically Age if Arcanum USSR, which is hilarious. Poor Matt.

Reward creativity. You can see Brennan give the faintest of smirks when Sam says yes to a question that is hard to develop on the spot. Brennan knows this, and rewards the crew with a flavorful, funny character on the spot. Sam gets to feel amazing for introducing this unique element to the game.

Yeah these are the moments why people love CR and Brennan. Bolo is now a fan favorite; I watched Brennan talk about the character in a wrap up and interview and it all stemmed from Aabria poking. Love it

Brennan does this a lot in his Dimension20 games, he matches the player's chaotic energy and heightens it. Baron from the Baronies in the Fantasy high series, The diner waiter centaur from The Seven, the gumdrop farmer from Crown of candy. His background in improv shows well here with Bolo.

Don't forget that Brennan forced Emily to create Hilda Hilda from 22 Hilda Street and 22 Hilda Boulevard. It's why Emily has resorted to breaking Brennan by actually learning the rules and running stealth munchkin combos behind his back.

Sam: "it takes me a moment to remember her name..." Aabria: (starts freaking out, in character) Travis: (fans her) My headcanon is that Bolo has like a Doctor Girlfriend thing going on. She's an incredibly beautiful sexy femme woman, with the voice of a 50-yo Russian man. Thing is, Brennan has probably been warned about Sam. And he's learned that the best way to deal with chaos players is take their crazy bullshit, add +1 to it, and then throw it back to them in canon, with a straight face. Emily Axford has taught him the hard way. Look up "Hilda Hilda" on RU-vid for when he first figured out this trick.

Not only has Brennan seen Sam's antics, they played together in the Elden Ring one-shot where Brennan's character spoke in a Bolo-esque accent. It's worth watching to see Marisha, Sam & Brennan do the Horse Stack bit alone. There are clips on RU-vid if you don't want to watch the entire oneshot.

Part of the set up is that Abria's and Sam's characters share a past. Abria's prompt and Sam's "I'll say yes" plays into the scene they had earlier. Abria spotted the opportunity and Sam caught on.

One of my favorite moments in game was similar to this. One of my fellow players was playing a Dragonborn and he was at the time obsessed with the “bing bong” meme, so he kept talking in an exaggerated Brooklyn accent. We got to a section where we needed to negotiate with a Brass Dragon, and he started talking in the accent and one of the other players said “Wait, I can’t understand what he’s saying” and our other Dragonborn character said “Oh, he’s speaking Draconic”. And that’s how in our game now it is cannon that Draconic is just Brooklyn.

Once I decided on the fly that Druidic sounded like exaggerated southern accent an the DM decided to make it canon. It's the best feeling ever.

I think the most interesting and inconspicuous thing Brennan did with Bolo is allude to the fact that the hodmedod might be faulty and fake, like we saw at the end of the episode. While they are scarecrow-like automatons, she refers to it as a bag, which in my mind's eye could almost look like a fabric draped over an invisible person/shape. I am also probably reading into it too much, but something just clicked for me when the 'empty' hodmedod was found.

In the campaign I run, one player is a tiny pixie and she randomly knocked on a a door in the city. This led to me making a random npc called Frode just to introduce. She flies into his home and another player that is a war cleric steps in because he is a brute. So it all ended with a failed brainwashing attempt, almost getting thrown in jail and now a sub plot about how Frode hates magic and magical creatures, so Ftode is recruiting every npc the party humiliates into his cult. The cult is getting rather powerful with the players I have 😆

Coach I'm so excited to watch your analysis of the third episode!! It was probably the best DnD session i've ever seen and It had it all: interesting combat, homebrew, DM rolling in the open, emotional roleplay, insane lore moments...I bet your video will be an hour long! SO. MUCH. STUFF!

The best part of this is that it was spur of the moment. I heard it at the time and you can see Aabria here it as well when Sam says "thank you for having US". You see her mouth "US" which then prompts her to ask and see what may come of it. Which of course wasn't gold but pure platinum

My weekly game gets cancelled 3 out of every 4 weeks. We don't take time for bullshit conversations with inconsequential npcs because time is too precious. We would never get anywhere.

Everyone’s games are different. What might not work in your game might be a ton of fun for others at another table. No need to call it “bullshit conversations with inconsequential npcs”

She asked if he had a +1 because he said us. Watch her mouth us right after Sam says it because she's confused. She asks because she's lost not because she's good at anything.

That seems like an inaccurate read as this player tends to act out their characters in a very active manner. The mouthing of "us" might be a reaction to this in the light of part of the shared backstory between these two characters.
