What you need to do to be my intro:
Record yourself saying the following things:
"Hallo Leute! Ich bin ___ (You can say whatever you want here - name, (youtube) nickname, where you live, where you're from, why you're learning German, or anything else you'd like, one or more things. It's best if you do this part in German, too, but if you're too shy, English is fine as well - just try to keep the video to roughly 10 seconds or shorter) und ihr seht Deutsch Für Euch!"
Please don't edit your videos; if you'd like something changed (e.g. color correction), let me know in your email. I'll make sure to make you look as good as possible anyway, though ;)
I can use a lot of video formats, but your safest bets are the usual candidates: .avi, .mov, .mp4 - DON'T use .dv, please.
Once you're happy with your video, send it to me via ONE of these channels:
attach the video to an email to dfekontakt@gmail.com
send me a DropBox link/invite me to a folder (also dfekontakt@gmail.com)
send me a link to a the video on RU-vid, also via mail
please title your message "DFE Intro"
There's NO time limit for this, this will be an on-going thing as long as you send me videos.
I'm looking forward to your submissions - feel free to get creative with it! :)

I simply misunderstood what you said at 7:08. Would a correct response then be "Ja, ich bin müde..." or "Mir is müde." Thank you for the quick reply!

In English, we don't say pretty as a picture. We usually use the term "picture perfect". However, that colloquial expression is old and not used anymore. And like the word geil, in English, the word "gay" means happy. However the word is used to indicate homosexuality.

So it's not normal, for example, to ask "Bist du müde?" to see if someone is tired or exhausted?

Can you clarify the pronunciation of the -ig ending? In 'hungrig' and 'durstig', it sounds like you're pronouncing the 'g' like in 'tag', but in other instances I've heard it said like the 'ch' of 'ich'. Is this on a case-by-case basis with words, is it on a sentence context basis, or is it even interchangeable?
@StevetheHunter560

Is perfect pronunciation of the German words very important? I can pronounce them "fairly" well, but they definitely sound different than from a native speaker. In the US most people have poor pronunciation skills, lol! :D

Nah, "mir geht's gut" really just means "I am feeling fine, I'm healthy", etc, while "I'm good" can say something like "that's alright, don't bother, no thanks"

+Deutsch für Euch Quick answer, Katja, thanx! You’re the best teacher. ❤ Yours truly made a little boo-boo: It should’ve been “people from German-speaking countries,” not just “Germans,” because there are three European countries that speak German (Germany, Austria, and Liechtenstein) and another 12 in which German has an official status. ;P

Sometimes you appear to pronounce fur (with the dotted u, can't figure out how to do it on my mac keyboard) as 'fyoor' and sometimes like 'fuhr'....which is correct? I was thinking 'fuhr' is correct but that it might be pronounced 'fyoor' because it's proceeded by Euch which kinda makes the sentence flow better. Could be totally off the mark there but just thought i would ask. Cheers!
@katja7823
@katja7823 11 лет назад
That's probably because to an English ear, the ü is somewhere between an "ee"(/i:/) and an "oo" (/u:/) sound. Which is kinda logical, since the tongue is in the same position as for a German i, but the lips form a German "u". Although, there definitely is no "y" sound in there (since I'm reading that as a /j/, so as in... "fjord") and I don't feel like I say that ever, but if you're hearing that, there has to be a reason for it. I'll try to pay attention to it, maybe I'll come up with an answer :)
@ghtshbhgtdhbgfhbchbgfhbghb1750
@ghtshbhgtdhbgfhbchbgfhbghb1750 11 лет назад
Ah actually it's really weird. I just listened to the beginning of the vid again maybe 10 or 12 times in a row, and when you say it i'm still hearing 'fjoor' or 'fyoor' but f i really listen to the actual word in isolation i can hear you're just saying 'fuhr'. Something to do with my dodgy monolingual ears i think. Good job though, me and my girlfriend are enjoying the vids, just as long as you're not worn out with all the marriage proposals and youtube comment flirting from the nutjobs on here haha. Keep up the good work!!
@katja7823
@katja7823 11 лет назад
Yeah, it might be just a practice thing. But as I said, it makes perfect sense to perceive a sound differently depending on what it's followed by. Can't say that hasn't happened to me before :) Haha, that really made me laugh. Thank you for addressing that, it gets kind of annoying after a while :D But I guess that's just part of being (female) on the internet. Or at least I hope so.

Yeh i think it is the side effect of being a lady youtuber. Btw, it would be kinda cool to have some of your entire vids in German. Maybe go through your lessons in German with English subtitles. I know you said it would be hard to do a two way convo with someone but maybe you could just do a mock conversation with yourself! Just a thought. I've just subbed, now to go back to the beginning and learn how to pronounce shit properly!

"Super" is not the word you would choose if you are trying to be serious. Parents often say to their kids "Das hast du super gemacht!" but never your german boss would say to you "Das haben Sie aber super gemacht." as long as he isn´t sarcastic...

But i havent see you posts anything that could have someone like me that want to learn german. what is the best way of learning. How did you learn? For example: here read _____ and it will help you learn german, or this program is good ______ or what is a good rule to study german per day? i have another problem. Your videos are way to advanced. Im sorry im a dumb american. I think you should give some more conversational german(you probably already have but i havent seen it yet).

She is german, so she learnt as you learnt english. I personally liked the Active Courses of Livemocha made in partnership with Collins. Unfortunately they were taken down some years ago and I cannot find them anywhere, not even in Pirate Bay :( You can check Deutsche Welle german course, it is quite good to teach the basics.

DUOLINGO.COM, OR MEMRISE.COM.. These are websites as well as apps you can have on a smartphone or tablet. Both are really good at giving repetition in learning words. Duolingo iI think is better, because it also givea you articles to translate, and gives you grammer lessons. Also has comments from fluent german speakers that are very helpful. Hope this helps, and good luck!! :)
