Hello Chuck, Thanks for the exciting video. You mention at one point that in the "second" video in the series you learn how to generate more speed. Unfortunately, from all the clips released, I can't identify which one "this" second video is. I would be grateful for a hint. Many greetings from Germany Kai

I actually pulled this shot off once, a few years ago, completely by accident. Confronted with a tee shot from an elevated tee over about 200 yards of forest to the fairway I was resigned to losing my ball. Worse, a group ahead waved me to play my shot as they walked down to play their next shots. Anyway, I got my 2 iron out, as I was struggling with my driver that day, relaxed as I thought I was bound to lose my ball, let the club fall in the way described in the video, completely by accident, and caught the ball perfectly. It soared over the forest and careered down the fairway. I started looking for my ball near where the group ahead were waiting still to play their 2nd shots and they asked what I was looking there for. When I said I'd lost sight of the ball they pointed way down the fairway and said it was down there. It must have gone about 275 to 280 yards, and with a 2 iron! As I walked down to it, for the one and only time in 50 years of playing golf since I was 14, I felt like Jack Nicklaus. Needless to say, reality returned on the next hole when I hacked my tee shot about 100 yards into a ditch!

I am a high handicap (17) golfer. On my simulator with the first knuckle of the trail hand pushing the club to start the golf swing and 80% of my iron shots are hitting the green, 100 yards to 150 yards. All I did was watch the video's and then went down and started to feel the first move be to use my hands to get the club rotating. This idea of cast the club, I hope continues to be amazing for my golf game.

As a 54 yr old man who has been playing since he was 14, this is pure gold. Here's the key to all this IMO... You need the tension in your swing in the RIGHT muscles / joints. It's all about the tension being in the right place(s). Once you get that down, it's a natural progression and practice to make the 'whip' do its thing.

This and your video on the stance has been absolute gold…I was very athletic growing up, playing ice hockey through division 1 with excellent hand/eye coordination so I could must muscle a club from almost anywhere and make good contact…Now, I’m 55 now, had both hips replaced, shoulder surgery, and back-related injuries…so, less effort is much preferred…have had a lot of trouble getting club speed, leading to shorter distance (though not as much of a concern) and much lower flight (75ish feet with irons with about a 41 degree landing angle)….I’ve always used blades because contact isn’t much of an issue for me and I love the way they look at address and feel…tried buying distance irons and actually hit them very poorly (heads too big!)…after using some of your videos over the last few weeks, getting more distance, and much better height (90+ feet) with my Miura KM700 irons - even my 5 iron!!! And the best part, and a first in years, is I was able to do 3 range sessions 3 days in a row of about 125 balls! Haven’t been able to do 2 days in a row for a long time and limited to playing only 9 holes…can’t wait to start playing 18 again with much less effort!

Ok- great explanation which i have to admit, i probably need to to watch this a few times for my brain ti accept it but agree with all the instructions here (and there’s so much conflicting info on RU-vid/internet about proper golf swing feelings). When my swing is on, i personally feel a slight pause at the top exactly what is mentioned here, which is the highly preached against “casting” - yet, I’m always ripping the ball when I get that casting feeling.

11:50 over the past 15 years I taught myself to cast from the top with my left hand to the point of rapidly wearing a hole in the thumb 👍 of my glove. Also I tend to hold the club right at the end and this wears a big hole in the heel/pad part too. This worked for a a while but now as an older player getting back into golf, I find I have low club-head speed. Occasionally I hold the club very lightly with just my fingers and have found I hit the ball just as far and pretty well but I am unable to reliably reproduce this. I really like your approach which makes a lot of sense, and as you say it requires developing a great deal of sensitivity in your hands. Especially the right hand. This compliments the advice by John Norsworthy in his book, Good Golf is Easy.

Chuck, Thanks for doing this Q&A session. We appreciate you taking this time to do this. About the right hand: During the downswing, do you feel you are using the Right Hand to "throw the ball" drill at impact?
@Rotaryswing
@Rotaryswing 6 месяцев назад
You're welcome! Those are a couple different things in my mind. I feel "throw the ball" from the top to get the club accelerating to make it "light". At impact itself because the club is already moving fast I'm using the right hand to sense what I want to do with the clubface (left helping too).
@edbell2087
@edbell2087 6 месяцев назад
I'm trying to combine the early casting with proper shoulder turn i.e. sliding the scap's in lieu of rotating. Both moves go together like PB&J.
@user-pr4vv3uz5m
@user-pr4vv3uz5m 6 месяцев назад
Fantastic analysis as always Chuck. The feeling of the club itself controlling the tempo is what's struck me and it's alot of fun to put less "muscle" and watch it go further consistently. A bit of a term question however ..."fast/speedy hands" is really referring to what? The "speed" of hands through the release? The rotational acceleration of the club head at the moment of impact?
@Rotaryswing
@Rotaryswing 6 месяцев назад
Good question. The hands actually don't have to move wildly fast. Typical hand speed for a long hitter is about 21 mph while the club is going 120mph. Really, it's about increasing the wrist angle quickly which is the force (force =mass*acceleration) which in turn allows the hands to move faster in the downswing, which allows the club to not be fully cast too soon like it is in most high handicappers.

For sure one of the likely reasons. We tend to sync up better when we aren't trying to kill the ball too and this makes it a more efficient motion. Width feels like "free" speed so for the avg golfer they think they have to force it produce speed and this creates any number of issues.

Hi Chuck! This is indeed the first time I have felt effortless speed. I think this is a great opportunity to push out some content of your past programs (DEAD Drill, Axiom) and how they can actually be done with this new “casting the club from the top” approach. For example, in the Axiom power program you talk about stomping into the lead foot and almost feeling like the trail foot moves backwards, while in this new approach you talk of a lateral movement that doesn’t seem too aggressive. When you want to really go after one ball how can you put that extra speed in the swing?
@Rotaryswing
@Rotaryswing 6 месяцев назад
For extra speed, I feel softer in my body so it can react more quickly and I focus just on hand speed. Being quick, light and agile is where you get your speed and the vast majority of that comes from the wrists.

A lot of this new content doesn't make sense based on your previous videos where you talk about the right hand going for a ride, squatting and posing on left leg to release club. @Rotaryswing

@Rotaryswing
@Rotaryswing 6 месяцев назад
You can and many do. I, at least at this point in my journey of swing like Tiger, don't feel the need to do this in any real powerful way. For me, I'm trying to feel light and quick rather than heavy and powerful. One thing I can tell you for sure is that you will actually generate MORE vertical force in the swing by pushing off the ground quickly than you ever will by pushing "hard"
@seanfitzgerald795
@seanfitzgerald795 6 месяцев назад
Hi Chuck, 2 questions: 1. should the cast start “on plane” or more vertically to get the weightless feeling? 2. what would cause the bottom of my swing to be a few inches behind the ball (hitting fat)?
@Rotaryswing
@Rotaryswing 6 месяцев назад
Hey Sean, no the club should still be "on plane", the vertical bit was me just wanting to help you quickly get a feel for the club feeling light so it can move more quickly. #2 is most likely not enough lateral shift - super common. That is covered in the body movement video here rotaryswing.com/c4/112545-the-body-movement If you don't move enough laterally you will tend to hit behind it, but you could also be forcing the club down with the left thumb and get a similar result.

Gosh. This is the opposite of what I’ve been trying to teach myself this week: I’m trying to keep my wrists, extremely loose, let my arms fall, and then turn so that there is a strong angle as my hands come close to my thighs with the club swishing through impact. I’m trying this, because when I video my swing, I see that I lose almost all of the angle from the top and I have almost no lag coming into impact. My swing speeds are very low and I believe they could be much faster and they need to be to play some longer shop in the greens. I’ll give this a try as well.

If you don’t want to train the trail hand to do a little cast, which is actually quite simple, then you have to make up for the speed in another way if you’re going to focus on solely using trail arm, which will either be having more leverage or more rotational speed

Seems from your responses to questions that the GOAT Theory videos are required viewing before getting in to the GOAT Code videos. One other question...how does the early wrist motion and the right arm dominant motion taught to Vintakesh (and others) come together? My brain sees them as slightly incompatible, but maybe if you do them both correctly together it's a multiplier effect. Thanks! @@Rotaryswing
@Rotaryswing
@Rotaryswing 6 месяцев назад
@@sipecothThere are some GOAT Theory videos you should watch for sure, they were all leading to this solution. As for the Venkatesh vids, they are all saying the same thing - a basic throwing motion. The one thing that I view as slightly different is i don't see the need to add much, if any, force from the trail arm, more just the right wrist. You can play great either way, but I believe the GOATs were more just using the hands and wrists than much arm.

This is confusing for me. Why does every video of pga players show the angle between club and lead arm being maintained well into the downswing?
@Rotaryswing
@Rotaryswing 6 месяцев назад
I explain this in the other videos, but essentially it’s because your hands can move faster as you begin to throw the club and that allows you to maintain lag longer even though you are still trying to get rid of it. As I said Jack, Nicholas felt that he could throw the club from the top as hard as he wanted as long as he was moving left.
@Blue_Dun
@Blue_Dun 6 месяцев назад
@@Rotaryswing there lies the rub. I lose lag, angle, & forward shaft lean without even trying, in fact, trying not to. I feel if I tried my hardest to "get rid of it" the outcome (like hitting fat shots) would get worse. And I feel my rotation is very aggressive but my club head is beating my hands to the ball

I guess it might be if the body doesn’t respond. It blows the mind when you sense that happening b/c we’ve heard all that other stuff so long. When I first heard that Jack quote awhile back there was some serious cognitive dissonance in my brain, how could the greatest player on the planet (at that time for sure) say that, so I filed it as he doesn’t really do that. Bad call to say the least haha! Just stay chill on the effort meter, tip it, follow it with the body and you’ll rip it as you trust it more.

I don't mean to be disrespectful, because I know you are only trying to make a living. That said, I believe the PGA should restrict any teaching pro from charging for lessons until they have 50 years of playing experience. It seems it takes you guys that long before you figure out what's really important in creating a good golf swing. Again, not trying to be disrespectful, but RU-vid is full of instructors that change their instruction every time they have an epiphany. At least now you are teaching something that should benefit all levels of player and not just the low handicappers.

Another question, Chuck - the force being applied to widen the angle with your wrists, do you feel this is being applied more strongly at the top / start of the downswing, or all the way through the downswing? Love this concept, big help in simplifying the elusive swing! Thanks, Rod
@Rotaryswing
@Rotaryswing 6 месяцев назад
This is happening much too fast to think through like this in all reality. But I would say it like this. The bulk of the force that you would feel is very early. You've got to change the direction of the momentum of the club so you'll definitely feel it then. From there, my goal is to feel that the club and hands become "weightless" as I say in the other videos so I'm no longer trying to feel force, although I'm sure I'm still applying some if we had some way to measure it. But feel is what you can take with you to the course and that's what I'm focused on here.
