Let's learn how to longboard together! This is the first video of a new series in which I will teach you everything you need to know about longboarding. From the very basics in this video to how to learn tricks, basic dance steps, medium dance steps, advanced dance steps, how to make combos,... This is probably my most ambitious project yet but I promise I'll do everything I can to make these as informative as possible :) So that when you watch these videos and try it out, you are on your way to becoming advanced in longboard dance & freestyle!

Q: How old are you?
A: 19 years old from the 16th of February.
Q: How do I get a Crownboards?
A: They aren't sold at the moment, due to internal work at Crownboards. Mainly so the Crown Boss can finish his school and we can start with a perfectly working online shop around april 2017. Stay tuned!!
Q: What editing program do you use?
A: Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 and sometimes After Effects for some extra's.
Q: What camera do you use?
A: A Canon 60D with 18-85mm lens (sometimes 50mm) and a Canon Legria HF G10.
Q: How long have you been longboarding?
A: I think I started in 2012, you can do the math ;)
Q: How long does it take to edit the videos?
A: When I started this channel, it took me about 8 hours for an 8min video. Now I can proudly say that I've probably cut it to about 6 or something. Still a lot though but when you count in searching for music, creating the description and other upload info,... It's quite understandable haha.
Q: How much does the Royal Tribe cost?
A: The board costs 199 euros without shipping.
Q: Does Crownboards ship to "..."?
A: Crownboards ships to almost every country, but the price will increase with more distance. Europe has pretty cheap shipping prices, you should contact Crownboards for more info about other countries.

you-are-the-pelican-man I felt the same way and I'm out in l.a where it seems everyone is already so good at skateboarding. But I did go out and after the first time it gets easier because you realize most people don't care. I was surprised that on my third day, these two other kids around my age came out and started practicing too.

I hate when people's dogs start barking at me or like attack me but they let them do it, one time I was skating all this dog literally jumped twords me so upset because they think there dogs are tame no respect for skaters

As an adult, I found this basic video very helpful. I never rode when I was a kid and want to learn to use a board for basic transportation. Not super interested in tricks. So a helpful follow-up to this would be a "Basics on the Road", taking the stance, push, and stopping onto non-flat surfaces. I am still not comfortable stopping (yikes!), but also when there is any amount of speed I get a side-to-side wobble that is hard to control.

Tom Otvos when I get the wobble thing I try get lower on my knees, and try to be a bit more flexible on the board and it usually works to take control back for the stopping, I myself can't advice you much since I still have issues when I'm at a high speed. I usually get down and let my board crash in the closest bush/pavement :')

If you still have this problem, when I'm surfing or long boarding I'll just put my hands to either side of my body and get lower in my stance and this almost always helps. Carving slowly can help slow you down also.

If you have a skate tool, you can also tighten the trucks a bit more to reduce the wobbling. :)

Took a vacation and saw people skating on longboards and thought that it looked incredibly smooth. Went out and bought myself one that was half price. Needless to say I do not regret it one bit. Been carving around for a month now, much less than I would really love to do but it's been a blast. I sincerely hope that one day I could master some basic moves. another way to find out what foot to put in front is to have someone shove you and see what foot you naturally throw out first. this is how my snowboarding teacher did it lol

Yeah, or just let yourself fall forwards. The foot you set in front is the one. This is the method I learnt the second time I went surfing

MsDreamySky If something like a crash scares you, it's normal part of the Human Nature, what you should do is look at the mistake you did and get back to it and try to avoid it. After all Life is an endless cycle of mistakes and fixes. Cheers!

I've broken a bone & still surf the asphalt. Don't let a fall discourage you I did for the like 2-3 years & it's taken a hobby away.A lot of family & a few friends discourage me also it started installing fear within me.After some tough love from my bestfriend he gave me the courage & confidence to come back too it.Also watching some of these videos it helped me get that muscle memory kick back in & improve in some areas so thank you.

Glad to see I'm not the only one over 30 here trying long boarding for the first time lol. Looking to get my first board this week to get some exercise and just cruise. I used to snowboard (though it's been YEARS since I last did it) so I'm hoping some of those old skills come back to me and help. This is a solid tutorial though and I will probably come back to it multiple times.

maybe add a "longboard product suggestions// how to maintain your longboard." as a novice, i kinda bought a longboard blindly, so a video about different aspects you should look at when buying as a beginner/someone who wants to just cruise vs someone who wants to do tricks would be so helpful. plus, im not super sure what to do to maintain my board, so that too!

Bought a longboard few days ago. Started longboarding this year at the age of 23. Never skateboarded nor rode on a penny before. Also my first time since I decided to invest on my first board. Watching this video definitely taught me how to cruise around easily. First day, practiced in a basketball court with no one around (yes I know bad place to start). Second day actually, I took it to the streets around my neighborhood and I'm slowly getting it down. So far, no regrets making the worthy investment and cruising around feels great. I just wanna say appreciate how much quality content you put into your videos that make it a great introduction for everyone.

another way to figure out your dominant foot: have someone shove you lightly from behind and whatever foot you step forward to brace yourself with is the foot you should have in front

I'm revisiting your tutorial to brush up on my beginning skills. Last year, I had two bad crashes, both were from going too fast and getting tossed off the board unexpectedly. Glad, nothing was broken, but it gave me a scare. This year, I'm working on getting more familiar with my board and slower speed practice. Thanks for the tips.

My problem is just getting used to the feel of the board. For the record I’m 5’6” and I’m around 240 lbs. Big dude on a board is always something people laugh at but I love riding. So seeing how to get on the board helps a lot.

@DanGanGalaxy 2 you can angle your body and shift your weight up to a certain point, but it depends on how fast you're going and how long/steep the road you're on is. Once you reach a certain speed, you just know that if you make a wrong move, you're off balance and it's gonna hurt so you just try to stay on your board and pray for the best :'D If you're in protective gear and have a board designed for downhill there's more you can do, but I think the biggest point is how well you're able to control your body in the situation. I can speak from experience: it's a super fun and free feeling experience, but once you start feeling fear it's a horror story :'D

Good tips for beginners man! I have a longboard coming tomorrow and I'm excited to learn. I feel like a lot of people don't get specific enough for a beginner but this video is very helpful!

It's now my third day longboarding :D and I fell and laughed because of a small stone 😂 and yeah this video helped me how to stop better :D but shifting my weight to the left (goofy) is hard, because I always think I will fell 🤷‍♂️😂

@@KiedisHaze Well done :)) it's always amazing when you nail something down. You realise you are progressing and the days trying to nail it down were worth it. I'm currently saving up money for a longboard, so hopefully by my birthday in February I'll have one. But it never hurts to do some research before hand haha

I just got my longboard, a week ago! It’s so difficult 😅 I used to use a skateboard when I was little, but I think longboard looks beautiful, so I got one. I think you should mention some progression tips, like what trick next to learn would be good, or how to deal with taking SO long to land a trick, something I'm struggling so bad right now with bigspins. Maybe you should add this in the how to learn tricks vid, not sure, but just my two cents! Also maybe a setup guide, like what setup is good for freestyle, so that beginners that want to dance get an optimal setup haha. Hans this is such a good series because I know that beginner longboarding stuff is so scarce that you're kind of on your own when you start out. Always stoked for you Hans!

+Donovan Vu Thanks a lot for the feedback and suggestions! That struggle of learning tricks is actually what that video will be about haha :D And how I deal with it. Setup video sounds like a good idea too but I'm not sure if I'm the right person for that since I honestly don't know that much about the whole setup thing. I just know what works for me and that's what I'm skating haha. I'll think of what I can do :) And again, thanks. I went through that struggle myself being the first boarder where I live and I hope to ease it for others with this and inspire them to try it :) Cheers from Belgium!!

Thank you for this series! I just started learning again (after a break for some years) and i got myself a pintail and i just love to carve around a little and get this kind of 'concrete surfing' feeling...but at the moment i'm just learning at empty parking lots...i'm too shy to go to the crowded places where the cool kids hang around. These videos are still some of the best I’ve found in terms of beginners. I came in pretty old - 35 years old! - but really enjoying the process and as rubbish as I might still be I’m encouraged I can get better..... even just cruising and carving around alone is a lovely feeling, listening to music and floating along.
