I so agree with you that increasing our exposure to the target language is key- I see a massive difference between my clients who immerse themselves in English in whichever way they can, and those who continue to live in their native language as much as possible (but are still hoping for native speaker fluency/accent!) I cannot agree with you more! It is essential for us to directly think in English without going through any process of translation to improve our fluency in the language. Even though we, as English learner, tend to find it something bad to make mistakes, in reality, there is no progress without trying to use the language.

We should think and answer in English without translating in our heads but first, we have to learn the meaning of words and collocations and a bit of English grammar. I cannot imagine that someone could explain me the Chinese grammar into Chinese when I do not understand Chinese characters, tones, words, collocations...
