I like the gazelle punch. first introduced to me by an mma fighter that hid the start up of the leaping hook by throwing a rear uppercut first. this forces the guard to tighten to the mid line wich creates openings on the sides. Using the gazelle hook against experienced fighters can be tricky if done from a neutral position and easly interrupted with a counter jab or straight wich you run into. Better to get the opponent moving first before lunching in. For an follow up video i would like to see either level changes as an reactionary defensive tool that sets up powerfull counter shots. Or a video about closing the distance by making a cross over step.

Hey i love your content. Really like your new videos discussing boxing skills, style, and training with pro boxers ! I would love a video on Mairis Briedis. Would say he is the "skilled brawler" type ? I think he has something special stylistically speaking but maybe it's just his big heart that impresses me, don't know... Amazing how he challenged Usyk and his two last fights against Opetaia, hell of a boxer... Big Thks from France

I would like you to do the follow up for defensive responsibility on this technique. The fundamental difference between shuffle and lunging(leaping) is that you have your head front of your lead leg so your legs are not set which gives reach and momentum as well as vulnerability
@Sam-ht4og
@Sam-ht4og 2 месяца назад
Boxers like Inoue use lot of shuffles but rarely lunges sticking to fundamentals as often is the case for Japanese fighters but most of us don’t have such a explosiveness to close enough distance nor balance like that. But Hamed made it work by colliding to his opponent when he missed and roughing it up and Beterbiev mixes up with power hand and changes stance when doing so etc
@Sam-ht4og
@Sam-ht4og 2 месяца назад
Lunging with power hand usually puts weight on your back legs so it’s fundamentally different but Hugler made it look same so opponents couldn’t tell which hand he was loading up. It would be really cool if someone could tell me tips on doing that

The last Tank Davis example is nasty. He has such economy of movement like he glides across the canvas feet barely an inch off the ground. The Hook connects when almost parallel, his feet land nearly simultaneously (most times you'd land on the foot you jumped off or the delay would be more noticeable ) If he missed the amount of time he'd be off balance I'd imagine would be minimal. It's be crazy to see like an indicator of where his centre of mass is throught that 1 punch. When landing on both feet he immediately pivots out, is on his toes and cuts off the corner forcing the opponent into the centre. Accuracy, footwork, timing and ring awareness, more than just a great execution of 1 punch

Frazier modeled his style off of Henry Armstrong, who held the undisputed title in 3 divisions at the same time. He was famous for the punch before it had that nickname. Sandy Saddler was famous for gazelle hooks and uppercuts to the body while cutting the ring, as he was a left-handed orthodox fighter. He was mentored by Archie Moore, who was friends and training partners with Armstrong. Joe Louis and Jack Johnson can also be seen using them at times. Kid Chocolate, Ray Robinson, Ezzard Charles, Jersey Joe Walcott, and many more. Barbados Joe Walcott a 5'1 welterweight legend who KOd Heavyweights, was said to have built his style around them and other lunging gazelle style punches, jumping off the ground just to be able to reach his taller opponents loool 😂😭

Excellent video, thanks! Is there a name for the leaping/lunging punch with the rear hand? I'm thinking Manny Pacquiao.
@skillrboxing
@skillrboxing 2 месяца назад
Not that I know of, but you could call it leaping too. The thing is when using the rear while lunging you end up changing stances naturally. Someone who uses it from time to time is Beterbiev, but he usually ends up changing stances to southpaw or end squared to the opponent in a clinch
